Makita doesn't just tool around. Founded in 1915 and headquartered in Anjo, Japan, Makita Corporation (NASDAQ: MKTAY) manufactures and sells portable power tools in its home country. The company makes portable drills, hammers, grinders, jigsaws, planers, sanders, jackhammers, trimmers, routers, chain saws, vaccum cleaners, pumps, garden tools, nailers, tackers, and stationary machines like planer-jointers, wood surfacers, band saws, table saws, and others. It primarily sells to professionals in the construction and skilled crafts industries, though it does also make products for consumer or do-it-yourself buyers. It sells mostly in Japan, but also in North America, Europe, and the rest of Asia. It has over 30 international subsidiaries. The company had 2006 revenue of about $2.0 billion and employs about 8,630 people. In May 2006, it launched a new 8 A+ inch circular saw with LED lights.
