The world needs oil, and oil needs Schlumberger. Founded in 1927 and headquartered in New York, NY, Schlumberger Limited (NYSE: SLB) is a leading oilfield services concern. The company's Oilfield Services segment offers a full range of specialties, including seismic surveys, drilling, wireline logging, well construction and completion, and project management. Its WesternGeco segment provides reservoir imaging, monitoring, seismic monitoring, and development services. The company has annual revenue of about $14.3 billion and employs about 60,000 people, operating in 80 countries. In November 2005 the company acquired a minority share in Packers Plus Energy Services, a Canadian-based completions company. In May 2005 the company acquired the assets of Diamould Ltd, an oil and gas industry firm specializing in electrical, hydraulic and fiber-optic connector solutions, based in Barrow-in-Furness, Cumbria, UK.
