Mario grew up in the clothing business; his early days were spent at Wilson s Shirt Shop operating under Mario s Inc. in downtown Portland, started by his father, Mario A. Bisio Senior, in 1937. In 1960, the first Mario s was opened in Lloyd Center. His father then opened four partnership stores in the Portland area. Mario was employed through high school as a sales associate in the store, then entered the University of Oregon in 1967. He continued his involvement in the store s management, sales and direction. After graduating in 1971, he became a full partner with his father in 1973, taking over the responsibilities of buyer. In 1975, following the passing of his father, he sold their interest in the partnership stores. At this point in 1976, Mario s entered its new era, including a new logo, a newly designed physical plant, and new packaging. This concept was so well-received in Portland they opened the Galleria store and in 1978 doubled the store s size. The Portland Mario s for Women opened in 1981. This store was completely rebuilt from the ground up in 1999.
