Dr Young is Chief of Neurology at Massachusetts General Hospital. David J. Zaleske, MD is an associate professor of orthopaedics at Harvard Medical School and chief of the Pediatric Orthopaedic Service at the Massachusetts General Hospital. His research interests include musculoskeletal development and the application of developmental biology in reconstructive orthopaedics.

David H. Perrott, DDS, MD, MBA, FACS is Senior Vice President/Medical Director for the Salinas Valley Memorial Healthcare System in Salinas/Monterey California, a Joint Commission Hospital Surveyor and maintains a private practice in Salinas. He is a former Associate Professor of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at the University of California, San Francisco and Harvard School of Dental Medicine and Unit Chief and Residency Program Director at the Massachusetts General Hospital. Dr. Perrott has published extensively, served on numerous professional association committees and is the Associate Editor for the International Journal of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. He presently serves on several California Healthcare Association and California Healthcare Foundation Committees and was recently appointed to the Board of the Directors of the newly formed California Hospital and Patient Safety Organization. Dr. Perrott is a graduate of Creighton University School of Dentistry and Creighton University School of Medicine and the University of California, Irvine, Paul Merage School of Business Management and did post-graduate training at Emory University, The University of Tennessee School of Medicine/Knoxville and Northwestern University.

Dennis A. Ausiello, MD is the Jackson Professor of Clinical Medicine at Harvard Medical School and Physician-in-Chief of the Medical Services at the Massachusetts General Hospital. He also served there as the Chief of the Renal Unit for 13 years and oversaw its development into one of the most sought after research and training programs in the world. Dr. Ausiello is a nationally recognized leader in academic medicine, a published author in the area of epithelial biology, and the leader of one the premier Departments of Medicine in the U.S.He is an elected member of the Institute of Medicine of the National Academy of Sciences and the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.

Dr. Patel is a recognized pioneer in arthroscopic surgery, who trained in Orthopedic Surgery at Harvard. He currently serves as Chief of Arthroscopic Surgery at Massachusetts General Hospital and is an Associate Clinical Professor at Harvard Medical School. Henry M. Kronenberg, M.D. is Chief of the Endocrine Unit at the Massachusetts General Hospital and Professor of Medicine at the Harvard Medical School. There he leads a research group that studies the actions of parathyroid hormone and parathyroid hormone-related protein, with a particular emphasis on bone development, bone biology, calcium homeostasis and osteoblastic support of hematopoiesis. Dr. Kronenberg's laboratory in recent years has used a number of genetically altered strains of mice to establish the role of signaling by the PTH/PTHrP receptor in bone. Dr. Kronenberg received his BA from Harvard University, his MD from Columbia University, his medical house officer training at the Massachusetts General Hospital, and post-doctoral training at NIH, MIT, and the MGH. Dr. Kronenberg has won the Fuller Albright Young Investigator Award and the William F. Neuman Award and delivered the Avioli Memorial Lecture of the American Society for Bone and Mineral Research. He received the Gerald D. Aurbach Lecture Award of the Endocrine Society. He also received the Harold Copp Award of the International Bone and Mineral Society. He has served as President of the American Society for Bone and Mineral Research and as a member of the Board of Directors of the International Bone and Mineral Society. He has served on the Council of the Endocrine Society, as the Endocrine Society's member on the FASEB Science Policy Committee, and is currently Vice President for Basic Science and FASEB Board representative. He has served on the General Medicine B NIH Study Section and currently serves as a member of the Board of Scientific Counselors of the National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research. He is a member of the American Society for Clinical Investigation and the Association of American Physicians.

Howard Goodman, Ph.D., is the Chief of Molecular Biology, Professor of Genetics, at Massachusetts General Hospital, Harvard Medical School. Dr. Goodman is an expert in the field of molecular biology and genome analysis, and currently serves the Chair of IQuum's Advisory Board.

Dr. Habener is Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School and Associate Physician and Chief of the Laboratory of Molecular Endocrinology at Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston. He obtained his B.S. degree in chemistry at the University of Redlands and his M.D. degree at the University of California, Los Angeles. After medical residency training at the Johns Hopkins Hospital, he spent two years in research at the National Cancer Institute. He completed his medical training in endocrinology and metabolism at Massachusetts General Hospital. Dr. Habener is a member of the American Association for the Advancement of Science. Jose Jessurun, M.D. is an Associate Professor of Pathology at the University of Minnesota and is the Director of Surgical Pathology, Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathology, at the University of Minnesota. He is a member of the Latin American Society of Pathology, the United States and Canadian Academy of Pathology and the Minnesota Society of Clinical Pathology. Dr. Jessurun received his M.D. degree from the National Autonomous University of Mexico in Mexico City in 1977, was the chief resident in surgical pathology at Massachusetts General Hospital from 1983-84 and has been an Associate Professor at the University of Minnesota since 1991.

Dr. Avruch is the Chairman of the Mercury Therapeutics Scientific Advisory Board and a co-founder. Dr. Avruch is the Chief of the Diabetes Unit at Massachusetts General Hospital. Dr. Avruch is also an internationally known investigator in the mechanisms of signaling by insulin, growth factors and the role of protein kinases in cell growth and differentiation. Dr. Avruch received the prestigious 2006 Bristol Meyers Squibb Distinguished Investigator Award in Metabolic Disease.

Dr. Axelrod is Associate Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School. He is also Chief of the James Howard Means Firm at the Massachusetts General Hospital (a subdivision of the Medical Services with the mission of teaching and counseling medical students, residents and other trainees) and a member of the Diabetes Unit at that hospital. For many years Lloyd conducted laboratory and clinical investigations in the area of diabetes, adipose tissue and prostaglandins, and also in other fields of endocrinology and metabolism. Lloyd is the author of 50 articles and nearly 20 book chapters. He received his A. B. degree from Princeton University, his M.D. degree from Harvard Medical School and his clinical training at the Peter Bent Brigham Hospital and the Massachusetts General Hospital.

Michael J. Barry, MD is Chief of the General Medicine Unit at Massachusetts General Hospital and Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School. Dr. Barry has been President of the Society for Medical Decision-Making (SMDM) and the Society of General Internal Medicine. He was the PI of the Prostate PORT-II. He is currently PI of a project comparing screening and treatment intensity and prostate cancer mortality in the Connecticut and Seattle SEER areas. He heads the Endpoints Committee for the Prostate cancer Intervention Versus Observation Trial (PIVOT). His research interests include the evaluation and treatment of prostate disease, health status measurement, technology assessment, and the use of decision aids to facilitate patients' participation in decision-making. Michael Bierer MD, MPH is an Assistant Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School and Associate Physician at Massachusetts General Hospital where he has been on staff since 1988. He currently has an active primary-care clinic in internal medicine at the hospital, and is responsible for resident education related to the clinical management of drug and alcohol problems. He formerly ran the program for homeless patients at the hospital.

Dr. Gonzalez is Chief of Neuroradiology at the Massachusetts General Hospital and Professor of Radiology at Harvard Medical School. He received his MD from Harvard and a PhD in chemistry from the University of California at Santa Cruz. He did post doctoral work in Molecular Biophysics at MIT, internship and residency at the Brigham and Women's Hospital and a neuroradiology fellowship at MGH. His primary research interests involve the development and application of advanced neuroimaging methods including MR spectroscopy and functional MRI and CT. Areas of active investigation include acute stroke diagnosis and its treatment, and the pathogenesis of neuroAIDS. He has published over 125 peer-reviewed manuscripts, over 75 chapters and reviews, and 2 books. He is the recipient of several NIH and DOD grants in the areas of neuroAIDS, Alzheimers Disease, brain tumors, and stroke. He lives in Cambridge with his wife Michele who is an atmospheric chemist, and their 2 daughters Susan and Ana.

Dr. Rebecca Brendel. Dr. Brendel is currently a Chief Resident in Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry at Massachusetts General Hospital and a resident physician in psychiatry at Massachusetts General and McLean Hospitals

Robert is Chief of Infectious Disease for Transplantation at Massachusetts General Hospital and Director of the Center for Experimental Pharmacology and Therapeutics at the Harvard-Massachusetts Institute of Technology Division of Health Sciences and Technology. A recognized authority in the field of infectious disease who specializes in training physicians and scientists in clinical investigation and experimental pharmacology, he co-established the nationally recognized Clinical Investigator Training Program at Harvard Medical School. Dr. Ronald Kleinman is chair of the department of Pediatrics, chief of the Pediatric Gastroenterology and Nutrition Unit at Mass General Hospital for Children and professor of Pediatrics at Harvard Medical School, Boston, MA. His major areas of research interest include nutritional support of infants and children, nutrition and public health policy, and gastrointestinal immunology. He has been a member of the Medical Advisory Group on Diet and Nutrition Guidelines in Cancer for the American Cancer Society, National Cholesterol Advisory Committee (NICHD), and a member of the Board of Trustees for the International Child Health Foundation. Ron is board certified in Pediatrics and Pediatric Gastroenterology. Ron lives in Boston.

Valerie E. Stone, M.D., MPH, is currently the Director of the Primary Care Residency Program and Associate Chief in the General Medicine Unit at Massachusetts General Hospital. Dr. Stone's overall research focus is on issues of quality of care and access to care for patients with HIV/AIDS, especially those from historically underserved populations.

Susan Edgman-Levitan, PA, is Executive Director of the John D. Stoeckle Center for Primary Care Innovation at Massachusetts General Hospital, and is a lecturer in the Department of Medicine at Massachusetts General Hospital. She is also an Associate in Health Policy at Harvard Medical School. Ms. Edgman-Levitan was the founding President of the Picker Institute. Ms. Edgman-Levitan was the co-principal investigator on the Harvard Consumer Assessment of Health Plans Study from 1995-2001 and is also on the Harvard CAHPS II study team, 2002-2007. She has served as Chair of the IHI Breakthrough Series Collaborative on Improving Service Quality, and is the IHI Fellow for Patient and Family-Centered Care. She is an editor of Through the Patient's Eyes, a book on creating and sustaining patient-centered care. She serves on several boards including Planetree, the National Patient Safety Foundation, the Center for Information Therapy, and the American Academy on Physician and Patient. Ms. Edgman-Levitan is a graduate of the University of Michigan and the Duke University Physician Assistant program, magna cum laude.

Homer Pien, Ph.D. Dr. Pien is managing director of the Center for Biomarkers in Imaging, part of the Department of Radiology at Massachusetts General Hospital. An expert in medical image and signal processing, he is an instructor at Harvard Medical School?s Department of Radiology and an adjunct professor in the Graduate College of Computer Science at Northeastern University.

Michel Nakkula teaches courses on adolescent development and helps to coordinate the Risk and Prevention Program, a master's specialization within the Human Development and Psychology area of the Harvard Graduate School of Education. Trained as a cross-cultural counselor and psychotherapist, Nakkula studies the environmental and psychosocial obstacles that place urban middle and high school students at risk for academic failure, underachievement, and general educational alienation, and the strengths that allow them to pursue options for growth. He is the cofounder of several prevention programs including Project IF: Inventing the Future, a collaborative partnership with Massachusetts General Hospital and the local business community. Project IF places Harvard students in mentoring, tutoring, and counseling relationships with youth in public schools and subsidized housing developments. Phenomenology and hermeneutics, theories and methods of uncovering and interpreting phenomena/data using interpretive research methods, are the guiding threads that organize his work.

Adele C. Viguera, M.D., M.P.H., is the Associate Director of the Perinatal and Reproductive Psychiatry Program at Massachusetts General Hospital and an Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at Harvard Medical School in Boston, Massachusetts. She has been a member of the faculty at Harvard Medical School and Massachusetts General Hospital since 1996. She is also Associate Director of the Perinatal and Reproductive Psychiatry Program at Cleveland Clinic. Dr. Viguera received her MD from Dartmouth Medical School in Hanover, New Hampshire, and served her internship and residency at Massachusetts General Hospital and McLean Hospital in Belmont, Massachusetts. In 2003, she earned an M.P.H degree at the Harvard School of Public Health.

Dr. Aidan A. Long is currently the Clinical Director of Allergy at Massachusetts General Hospital, where he also serves as Fellowship Training Program Director in Allergy and Clinical Immunology. Since 2001, Dr. Long has focused his clinically-based research predominantly on health care utilization and adherence patterns in asthma patients, serving as Co-investigator of 3 clinical trials. In addition, he is embarking on a study of dendritic cell function in patients with asthma as Principal Investigator of the 2007 trial ?The Characteristics of Peripheral Blood Dendritic Cells in Asthma Patients on Xolair.? Dr. Long has authored or co-authored more than 30 articles and 40 reviews and abstracts. He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Allergy Asthma and Immunology, as well as a member of the Massachusetts Allergy Society, Massachusetts Medical Society, Canadian Society for Allergy and Clinical Immunology, and New England Society for Allergy. He has been an Ad Hoc Reviewer for several publications, including New England Journal of Medicine, American Family Physician, Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology, Journal of Pathology, and Chest. Having received his medical degree from University College Cork, National University of Ireland, Dr. Long served his residency at St. Vincent?s Hospital and University College in Dublin, Ireland. He then completed a fellowship in Allergy and Immunology at McMaster University Medical Center in Hamilton, Ontario.

Dr. Fischman is a Professor of Radiology at Harvard Medical School and the Director of Nuclear Medicine at Massachusetts General Hospital. He is a prominent contributor to Nuclear Medicine technologies in cardiovascular, cancer, infection and brain imaging. He is an inventor on the technologies licensed to the company and a Principal Investigator of several clinical trials for pharma companies. Dr. Fischman received his PhD from Rockefeller University and his MD from Yale University School of Medicine.

Dr. Anne Alonso is a clinical professor of psychology in the Department of Psychiatry, Harvard Medical School. Dr. Alonso serves as Director of The Center for Psychoanalytic Studies at the Massachusetts General Hospital. She is the founder and director of the Endowment for the Advancement of Psychotherapy, Massachusetts General Hospital/ Harvard Medical School. She has taught and supervised psychologists and other mental health professionals in a variety of locations, and is Professor Emeritus of Psychology at The Fielding Graduate Institute. She also serves on several editorial boards, including The International Journal of Group Psychotherapy, Group, and The American Journal of Psychotherapy.

Professor Ashley Ian Bush is the Director of the Laboratory for Oxidation Biology within the Genetics and Aging Unit at the Massachusetts General Hospital and Associate Professor in the Department of Psychiatry of Harvard Medical School. Professor Bush is also Principal Fellow/Associate Professor, Departments of Pathology and Psychiatry, University of Melbourne. Professor Bush, born and educated in Melbourne, established his laboratory at the Massachusetts General Hospital after receiving the distinguished Harness Fellowship in 1992. His discovery of the role of metals and oxidative stress in Neurological disorders has formed the basis of our platform technology.

David R. Elmaleh, Ph.D., the scientific founder of FluoroPharma, Inc., is an Associate Professor at Harvard Medical School and the Director of Contrast Media Chemistry at the Massachusetts General Hospital. He is an inventor of three drugs that are in use in man or in late stage clinical trials including: The radiopharmaceutical preparation of (2FDG) which has been used in over a million PET imaging procedures, Beta-methyl modified fatty acid (BMIPP), a commercially successful cardiac SPECT agent, and Altropane which has completed Phase III clinical trials. His recent work has included extensive research on imaging compounds to improve the speed and effectiveness of cardiovascular disease diagnosis which constitutes the technology licensed from MGH to FluoroPharma. He is a co-author on over 120 publications and an inventor of over 40 issued and pending patents in a range of disciplines, including molecular imaging and pharmaceuticals. Dr. Elmaleh is the recipient of numerous NIH and DOE awards, and has participated as a reviewer for the National Institute of Health (NIH). He is the Scientific Founder of Biostream (changed name to Molecular Insight Pharmaceuticals) and several other start-ups. He holds a BSc in Physics and Chemistry, and an MS and Ph.D. in Chemistry from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem.

Donald C. Goff, MD is an Associate Professor in the division of Psychiatry at Harvard Medical School, Cambridge, Massachusetts and Medical Director of the Freedom Trail Clinic. Dr. Goff serves as Director of the Schizophrenia program at Massachusettes General Hospital, integrating clinical care, teaching, and research. Specifically, Dr. Goff's areas of research interest include examination of the glutamatergic system as a target for pharmacological treatment and developments utilizing advances from the neurosciences to improve treatment and functioning for people with schizophrenia. Dr. Goff earned his MD from the University of California, Los Angeles in 1980. His post-doctoral training includes an internship in Internal Medicine at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles and Chief Resident of inpatient service at Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH). Twice in the past decade, Dr. Goff has received the Outstanding Teacher Award (in Psychiatry) at MGH. Additionally, The Massachusetts Psychiatric Association awarded him the Outstanding Psychiatrist Award in Research. Dr. Goff has published numerous reviews and articles pertaining to various aspects of schizophrenia in journals such as Biological Psychiatry and American Journal of Psychiatry. Guy Albert Rordorf, M.D., former assistant professor of neurology at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, is director of the Neuroscience ICU at Massachusetts General Hospital. Dr. Rordorf is a member of the Stroke Council of the American Heart Association and director of the Neurocritical Care Society. He reviews for a number of professional journals including New England Journal of Medicine, Stroke, Journal of Neurocritical Care, Expert Review of Cardiovascular Therapy, and Cerebrovascular Disease. Dr. Rordorf is active in clinical research and widely published on stroke. He has presented nationally and internationally for the European Society of Emergency Medicine, Swiss Neurological Society, International Society for Magnetic Resonance in Medicine, American Academy of Neurology, American Stroke Association, and Society of Neuroscience. After graduating from the University of Geneva Medical School in Switzerland, Dr. Rordorf stayed on at University Hospital to train in neurology and medicine. He served as Jacob Javits Research Fellow in Medicine at Massachusetts General Hospital. Dr. Rordorf completed clinical fellowships in neurology and medicine at Massachusetts General Hospital. He is board certified in psychiatry, neurology and has a neuroimaging-neurosonology certificate. Dr. Rordorf is attending physician in Neurology, the Stroke Service, and the Neuroscience Intensive Care Unit at Massachusetts General Hospital.

Dr. Joffe is the Director of Research in the Perinatal and Reproductive Psychiatry Clinical Research Program at Massachusetts General Hospital and an Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at Harvard Medical School. She received her undergraduate degree from Harvard University, her medical degree from Cornell University Medical College, and her Masters Degree in Epidemiology from the Harvard School of Public Health. She completed her psychiatry residency training at McLean Hospital and a fellowship in Reproductive Psychiatry at Massachusetts General Hospital. Dr. Joffe is an experienced clinician and researcher in women's mental health. Her work focuses on the biologic mechanisms involved in menopausal symptoms of hot flashes, depression, sleep disturbance, and cognitive difficulties. She also studies the impact of hormones on mood in women with premenstrual mood disturbance and the reproductive consequences of psychotropic medications. In ongoing work, Dr. Joffe examines the impact of hot flashes on sleep and well-being in women with and without mood disturbance and the mechanisms involved in the etiology of hot flashes. Dr. Joffe also conducts studies that focus on the hormonal and central nervous system mechanisms that are responsible for the development of hot flashes related to menopause and breast-cancer therapies. In other work, Dr. Joffe has examined the role of hormonal contraceptives on premenstrual depression and determined the impact of valproate on reproductive function and the polycystic ovarian syndrome in women.

Dr. Helen Riess is Assistant Clinical Professor at Harvard Medical School and Director of Education for Psychotherapy Supervision for faculty and residents at the Massachusetts General Hospital. She trained in Psychiatry at the Massachusetts General Hospital where she was Chief Resident of the Psychotherapy Division and completed a post-graduate fellowship in Eating Disorders Research. She was awarded a Dupont - Warren Research Fellowship which funded her designing and testing an innovative treatment approach for Eating Disorders. This culminated in her book, Integrative Group Treatment for Bulimia Nervosa, Columbia University Press, 2002 and is used at MGH, across the country, and internationally.

Dr. Pryor completed his medical school training at the University of Mississippi and his Neurosurgical residency at Washington University in St. Louis. He completed his Interventional Neuroradiology fellowship training at NYU and was on the staff at Beth Israel North for several years. He has served as Director of Interventional Neuroradiology and Endovascular Neurosurgery at Massachusetts General Hospital since 2001. He is a member of the AANS and the ASITN. Dr. Pryor is an Instructor at Harvard Medical School. Dr. Pryor has extensive experience in the diagnosis, management and treatment of cerebrovascular disease. This includes the treatment of aneurysms, arteriovenous malformations, dural arteriovenous fistulas, pre-operative embolization of tumors and treatment of head and neck lesions including epistaxis. Another part of the specialty is that of stroke prevention which includes carotid and vertebral artery angioplasty and stenting as well as acute stroke treatment with thrombolysis. Dr. Pryor is the Primary Investigator in the ONYX AVM Trial and Phase I Trials of the Concentric clot retrieval device (MERCI). He introduced intra-arterial Nicardipine for the treatment of vasospasm following subarachnoid hemorrhage. He is currently involved in basic research on endothelial cell activity for in-vivo treatment of neurovascular disorders and animal stroke models.

Karen M. Ryle, of Massachusetts, is serving the second year of a three-year member term representing District 1. Ms Ryle was re-elected to serve on the Executive Committee after serving a one-year member term from 2006 to 2007. An active member of NABP since she was appointed to the Board, Ms Ryle has served as chairperson for both the Task Force to Develop Recommendations to Best Reduce Medication Errors in Community Pharmacy Practice and the Task Force on Telepharmacy and the Implementation of the Medicare Drug Benefit Medication Therapy Management Provisions. Currently, Ms Ryle is the director of Outpatient Pharmacy Services at Massachusetts General Hospital. She earned both her bachelor of science degree in pharmacy and her master of science degree in drug regulatory affairs from Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences.

Katelyn Quynn is the director of development, planned and major gifts for the Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, Massachusetts, where she has worked since 1992. In 1998 she assumed the role of director of planned giving for the Partners Healthcare System, Inc., acting as a consultant to the system's eight affiliate hospitals. Ms. Quynn is a past president of the Planned Giving Group of New England and served on the Board of Directors of the National Committee on Planned Giving where she was one of the founders of the NCPG Journal of Gift Planning. She is a board member of Planned Giving Today and Charitable Accord and testified before Congress for successful passage of the Philanthropy Protection Act of 1995. She was named Planned Giving Professional of the Year by Planned Giving Today. Ms. Quynn teaches a graduate level course in planned giving and is co-author of Planned Giving: Management, Marketing and Law, Second Edition, published by John Wiley & Sons, winner of AFP's 2000 Staley/Robsham/Ryan/St. Lawrence Prize for Research and CASE's John Grenzebach Research Award for 2000. She is also author of Wiley's Invest in Charity, A Donor's Guide to Charitable Giving, and Planned Giving for Small Nonprofits. She serves on the Board of Visitors for Miss Hall's School and the Campaign for the New Library in the town of Wellesley, Massachusetts. She holds a bachelor's degree from Tufts University and a law degree from Boston University School of Law.

Dr. Chien is an internationally recognized biologist specializing in cardiovascular science, as well as a pioneer in developing new therapeutic strategies to prevent the onset and progression of heart failure. Since July 2005, Dr. Chien has returned to Boston as Scientific Director of the Cardiovascular Research Center at Massachusetts General Hospital and Professor of Cell Biology at Harvard Medical School in the Department of Developmental & Regenerative Biology. He is a member of the Harvard Stem Cell Institute, where he leads the university-wide Cardiovascular Stem Cell Biology Program. Upon his return to the Harvard community, he was awarded the distinction of the first endowed chair of the Charles Addison & Elizabeth Ann Sanders Professor of Medicine. Prior to his MGH/HMS appointments, Dr. Chien directed the Institute for Molecular Medicine at the University of California at San Diego (UCSD). He is a professor emeritus at UCSD, and continues his appointment as an Adjunct Professor of The Salk Institute. A graduate of Harvard University, Dr. Chien went on to earn his MD and PhD from Temple University in Pennsylvania. After completing his internship, residency, and cardiology fellowship training at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School in Dallas, he joined the faculty of the UCSD Departments of Medicine and Cardiology and the Center for Molecular Genetics. Subsequently, Dr. Chien became the Director of the UCSD Institute of Molecular Medicine and directed the joint UCSD-Salk Institute National Institutes of Health Molecular Medicine Training Program. Given his longstanding interest in training physician-scientists, he has served as an advisor/panel member of several private biomedical foundations, including the Doris Duke Charitable Foundation and the Wellcome Trust. He also has served as a senior consultant and board member to several biotechnology and large pharmas over the past decade, fostering collaborative ties between academia and the private sector. His most recent accomplishments include the establishment of a new Institute of Molecular Medicine at Peking University, currently the premier site for cardiovascular science and medicine in China. He has received several awards for his work, including the Pasarow Foundation Award and the Walter B. Cannon Award of the American Physiological Society. Dr. Chien has conducted groundbreaking research focused on the molecular pathways of cardiac development and disease, much of which has been published in the top tier journals in the field of biomedical science, including Cell, Science, and Nature. Most recently, his laboratory discovered the "progenitor cells" (similar to stem cells) residing in the heart. These cells signal a particularly exciting breakthrough, as they are capable of generating functioning heart muscle cells. Since its publication in the journal Nature in 2005, this finding has recently been recognized as one of most highly cited papers in the biomedical field over the past six months. Recently, the Chien lab has discovered a "master" cardiovascular stem cell that can give rise to all three major cell types in the heart: cardiac, smooth muscle, and endothelial, and is implicated in formation of heart muscle, the heart pacemaker system, and the coronary arteries (Cell, 2006). Since this master cardiovascular stem cell can be cloned from embryonic stem cells, this new finding has significant implications both for the study of the heart development, drug discovery, and disease target identification, and for longer term potential therapeutic application of the cells to repair and replace damaged heart, pacemaker, and vascular tissue.

Laura Brannen serves as Director of the Hospitals for a Healthy Environment or "H2E" program -- a national program designed to move the healthcare industry towards providing healthcare in a manner that reduces their impacts on environmental and human health. Her background includes serving as the Assistant Director of Environmental Services at the Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston; a "hazardous materials specialist" at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in New Hampshire; and has worked with Health Care Without Harm since 1995.

Dr. Pollack is Director of the Center for Anxiety and Traumatic Stress Related Disorders at the Massachusetts General Hospital, and Associate Professor of Psychiatry at Harvard Medical School. He received his M.D. in 1982 from New Jersey Medical School, and completed residency and fellowship training in psychiatry at Massachusetts General Hospital. He has published over 200 articles, reviews and chapters, and is co-editor of the books "Challenges in Clinical Practice: Pharmacologic and Psychosocial Strategies", "Panic Disorder and Its Treatment", and "Social Phobia: Research and Practice." Dr. Pollack serves on numerous editorial and advisory boards, as well as the Scientific Advisory Board of the Anxiety Disorders Association of America, and the Board of Directors of the Mood and Anxiety Disorders Institute of the Massachusetts General Hospital.

Michael R. Jaff, DO, currently serves as Vascular Medicine Specialist and Medical Director of the Vascular Diagnostic Laboratory at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston. He is an Assistant Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School, and is also the immediate past-president of the Society for Vascular Medicine and Biology. He serves as Treasurer of the Intersocietal Commission for the Accreditation of Vascular Laboratories. In addition, Dr. Jaff is the director of the Vascular Ultrasound Core Laboratory, one of the largest clinical research vascular ultrasound laboratories in the world. Dr. Jaff represents the cardiovascular medical community on the American College of Radiology Expert Consensus Panel on Cardiovascular Imaging, and is a member of the editorial board for several journals including Vascular Medicine, Angiology, Catheterization and Cardiovascular Interventions, and the Journal of Endovascular Therapy. Dr. Jaff received his B.S. in biology at Dickinson College, Carlisle, PA, and his doctorate of osteopathic medicine at the Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine, Kirksville, MO. Dr. Naomi Simon is Associate Director of the Anxiety Disorders Program at the Massachusetts General Hospital and Assistant Professor in Psychiatry at Harvard Medical School. She received her MD from Harvard Medical School in 1992 and completed her medical internship and residency in psychiatry at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital/ New York State Psychiatric Institute, where she also served as Chief Resident in psychiatry. In addition, she completed fellowship training in consultation psychiatry at Massachusetts General Hospital and received a Masters in Epidemiology at the Harvard School of Public Health. Dr. Simon has served as a principal investigator on numerous studies examining the phenomenology and treatment of panic disorder, generalized anxiety disorder, social anxiety disorder, and post-traumatic stress disorder. Dr Simon is co-editor of a 2-part series updating anxiety disorders research and practice in Psychiatric Annals, co-editor of a book on Social Anxiety Disorder, and authored a critical review of treatment refractory panic disorder for Psychiatric Clinics. She has also authored or co-authored multiple book chapters and reviews, as well as a number of original research papers appearing in peer-reviewed journals.

Dr. Tanzi is Professor of Neurology and Neuroscience at Harvard Medical School and Director of the Genetics and Aging Unit at the Massachusetts General Hospital. Dr. Tanzi is one of the worlda s leading authorities on Alzheimera s disease and a leading research force in understanding the genetic, cellular, and molecular pathophysiology of neurodegenerative disease. Dr. Tanzi has contributed groundbreaking work on genotype analysis of complex diseases, Huntingtona s disease, Alzheimera s disease, and general aspects of aging. Dr. Tanzi isolated the first familial Alzheimera s disease gene. Dr. Tanzi serves on a number of editorial boards and has received numerous accolades for his research. Dr. Wilhelm is an Associate Professor of Psychology at Harvard Medical School. She is Director of the Obsessive-Compulsive and Related Disorders Clinic as well as Director of the Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy Program at Massachusetts General Hospital. Dr. Wilhelm is recognized as a leading researcher in Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD), Body Dysmorphic Disorder, and Tic Disorders, and she has published numerous articles and chapters on the cognitive functioning, prevalence, and treatment outcome of these disorders. Currently, Dr. Wilhelm is the principal investigator of several NIMH-funded clinical research studies. In addition, Dr. Wilhelm recently published a treatment manual for OCD Cognitive Therapy for Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder: A Guide for Professionals and a self-help book for Body Dysmorphic Disorder called Feeling Good About the Way You Look: A Program for Overcoming Body Image Problems. Dr. Wilhelm serves on several editorial and advisory boards and she is often invited to speak around the country and internationally.

Steven J. Atlas, MD, MPH is an Associate Physician in General Medicine and Associate Director of primary care quality improvement at Massachusetts General Hospital, and is an Assistant Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School. His research focuses on improving the quality of care for patients with low back disorders and respiratory infections. He is a National Institutes of Health funded investigator studying work-related low back pain and ways to improve patient care by better linking patients and doctors. For patients with sinus infections, he developed a survey instrument to measure the severity of symptoms and their impact.

Dr. McLoud is associate radiologist-in-chief and director of education for the Department of Radiology at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston and a professor of radiology at Harvard Medical School.

Joan is the IMA's Treasurer and Clerk. She is Senior Project Manager in Service Improvement at Massachusetts General Hospital. Formerly Operations Director for Interdisciplinary Services and the Healing Connection at Union Hospital, North Shore Medical Center in Lynn, Massachusetts, Joan has also been a Consultant to the health care industry in marketing and market research and earned her MBA from Simmons College in Boston. Strauss has published extensively and says that her interest in the scientific study of immunology is driven by a fascination with the body's wisdom, intelligence and capacity to heal. She is currently working to create space in a conventional care setting where each individual can gain knowledge of and confidence in their self-healing abilities.

Dr. Alison Avram received her medical degree from Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia, where she graduated in the top 10 percent of her class. She completed one year of post-graduate training at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania before concentrating on the field of dermatology. She spent a year as a dermatology resident at SUNY Stony Brook Health Sciences Center before returning to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania to complete her dermatology residency in 2000. A published author and public lecturer, Dr. Avram is a Clinical Instructor in advanced dermatology and surgery at Harvard Medical School and is an Assistant in Dermatology in the Department of Dermatology at Massachusetts General Hospital. She is a Diplomate of the American Board of Dermatology. Dr. Avram stays abreast of the latest advances in dermatology with memberships in the American Academy of Dermatology and the Women?s Dermatologic Society.

Alvin Rosenfeld graduated Cornell University and Harvard University Medical School, where he also later served as a faculty member. While at Harvard in the early 1970's, he was among the first clinicians to uncover the high prevalence of sexual abuse among children who became psychiatric patients. In 1977, Dr. Rosenfeld, a board certified child, adolescent, and adult psychiatrist, joined Stanford University Medical School's faculty where he headed its child psychiatry training program. While there, he headed a research project on "typical" families and how they teach sexual values and attitudes to their 2 - 10 year old children. He has been a contributor over the years to our thinking about sexual rearing styles and "normal" sexual development. Dr. Rosenfeld returned to NYC in 1984 and now spends his time in the private practice of child and adult psychiatry in New York City and Greenwich, Connecticut. Dr. Rosenfeld is an academic advisor to the Better Business Bureau's Children's Advertising Review Unit, which sets media and industry standards on children's advertising for television, magazines, and most recently, for the internet. He also serves on the faculty of Harvard Medical School, is an associate psychiatrist at Massachusetts General Hospital, and serves on the Board of Governors for Harvard Medical School's Center for Mental Health and Media. In 2005, Dr. Rosenfeld won the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry?s Catcher in the Rye Award for Child advocacy. In 1997, he won the Wilfred Hulse Award for outstanding contributions to child and adolescent psychiatry. He has been included in The Best Doctors in America, Who's Who in Health Care and How to Find the Best Doctors in New York. From 1999-2004, he served on the editorial board of the prestigious Journal of the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. He is the author of over 120 professional articles on child abuse, sexual rearing styles, psychotherapy, foster care, and historical issues. He has written five books. The Somatizing Child, co-authored with Elsa Shapiro. Healing the Heart, co-authored with Saul Wasserman. In 1993, Dr. Rosenfeld published The Art of the Obvious (Alfred Knopf), co-authored with the late Bruno Bettelheim. It was translated into French, German, Italian, Polish and Spanish, and was an alternate selection of both the Book-of-the-Month and the Quality Paperback Book Clubs. In early 2000, he and Nicole Wise Co-authored Hyper-Parenting (St. Martins) which in 2001 was issued as a paperback, The Over-Scheduled Child. It has been or is being translated for Belgium, China, Holland, Italy, Japan, Korea, and Spain. Dr. Rosenfeld has also written for the lay audience. He and his wife, pediatrician Dr. Dorothy Levine, co-authored a bi-monthly parenting column for American Baby magazine. He also has written a novel, A Dissenter in the House of God, about loss, grief and recovery, published by St. Martin's Press. Reviewers called this novel "a small masterpiece." Dr. Rosenfeld is frequently quoted in the press and has been a guest on numerous TV shows, such as Good Morning America, Larry King Live, The CBS Morning News, CBS Sunday Morning News, NBC Evening News, The Today Show, the Merv Griffin Show, The Oprah Winfrey Show, Good Day New York, and CNN News. Anthony Stauffer, M.D. received his fellowship training in CT and Neuroradiology at Massachusetts General Hospital and is one of Franklin & Seidelmann?s experts in MRI. Prior to joining Franklin and Seidelmann he served as the Director of MRI at Mission Regional Imaging Center and is well known to many of the orthopedic and neurosurgeons in Southern California. His most recent lectures and interests have been in applications of higher field open MRI and 3-dimensional imaging. Dr. Stauffer has also been actively involved in teaching orthopedic fellows.

Dr. Armand Nicholi, Jr. is the author of the highly acclaimed bestseller, The Question of God, which compares the worldviews of Sigmund Freud and C.S. Lewis. Of the book filmmaker Ken Burns has said: "Armand Nicholi has hit the nail on the head with this irresistible, expertly told story of the twin anchors and the dilemma of modern thought.... I couldn't put it down." Nicholi's book grew out of a popular course he teaches on the subject at Harvard, and has been developed into a multi-part program for PBS, to air later this year. Nicholi is an associate clinical professor of psychiatry at Harvard Medical School and the Massachusetts General Hospital. He has an active practice as a psychiatrist and serves as a consultant to government groups, corporations, and professional athletes. He is married, with two children, and lives in Concord, Massachusetts.

Dr. Barbara Smith is Co-Director of the Gillette Centers for Women's Cancers, serves as Director of the Comprehensive Breast Health Center at Massachusetts General Hospital and is an Assistant Professor of Surgery at Harvard Medical School and the Massachusetts General Hospital. Barbara believes that when treating women's cancers, you must treat the whole woman, not just the cancer. This involves emotional healing and family counseling. In addition to being an accomplished breast surgeon, Barbara has distinguished herself through her research focusing on genetic and non-genetic risk factors for breast cancer, women's perceptions of breast cancer risk and diagnosis and treatment issues in young women with breast cancer.

Bertram Zarins has been the New England Revolution's head Team Physician since the team's inception in 1996. He is Clinical Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery at Harvard Medical School and Massachusetts General Hospital. Zarins is also head team physician for the Boston Bruins and was head team physician for the New England Patriots from 1982 until 2006. He served on the U. S. Olympic Committee Sports Medicine Council for 12 years and was Head Physician for the XIV Winter Olympics in Sarajevo in l984. Dr. Zarins is an orthopaedic surgeon and specializes in the treatment of athletic injuries. He is an expert on knee and shoulder injuries, especially injuries such as torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL), torn knee meniscus (knee cartilage), shoulder instability and shoulder torn rotator cuff. He was a pioneer in the development of arthroscopy and is an expert in arthroscopic surgery. Zarins received his M.D. degree from the State University of New York, Upstate Medical University in l967. He completed his internship and assistant residency in general surgery at the Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore and orthopaedic surgery residency in the Harvard Combined Orthopedic Residency Program in l973. Dr. Zarins also completed a fellowship in Sports Medicine at the Massachusetts General Hospital. Dr. Zarins started the Sports Medicine Service at Massachusetts General Hospital and was its Chief until 2007. He has been Chairman of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons Committee on Sports Medicine and is Consulting Editor for Sports Medicine for the Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery. Recognized internationally as for his medical knowledge, Zarins has lectured throughout the world and is the Honorary President of the Spain Arthroscopy Association. Dr. Zarins has worked to improve health care in Latvia, for which he has received the highest civilian medal of honor from the President of Latvia. Bizhan Bandarchi is a fifth year senior resident in Anatomic/Clinical Pathology at Massachusetts General Hospital. He received his M.D. degree from Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Sciences in Tehran/Iran. His post-graduate training included one year of AP residency at Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Sciences, three years of AP/CP residency at University of Florida/Jacksonville, two years of AP residency at Massachusetts General Hospital, Dermatopathology Fellowship at University of Florida in Gainesville to begin in July 2002 and Cytopathology Fellowship at Yale University to begin in July 2003. He has had multiple abstracts and poster presentations in national and international meeting in field of breast cytopathology and is contributing author of chapter of Hypermelanoses in book of "Dermatologia Practica"(publication in progress). Dr. Camargo is an Associate Professor of Medicine and Epidemiology at Harvard University, an emergency physician at Massachusetts General Hospital, and a research epidemiologist at the Channing Laboratory, Brigham and Women's Hospital all in Boston, Massachusetts. Dr Camargo has focused his research on asthma/COPD and public health issues. Dr. Camargo directs the Emergency Medicine Network (EMNet), a research collaboration that involves >180 emergency departments (www.emnet-usa.org). At the Channing Laboratory, Dr Camargo works on several NIH-funded cohorts, looking at nutritional risk factors for asthma/COPD in approximately 300,000 Americans. Dr Camargo has >250 peer-reviewed publications and is past-president of the American College of Epidemiology. He served on the 2005 US Dietary Guidelines Advisory Committee (Agriculture/HHS). He has served on many other national committees related to asthma, COPD, emergency medicine, epidemiology, and public health. The overall goals of these activities are: 1) to identify new approaches for asthma/COPD prevention, such as Vitamin D intake; 2) to improve treatment of respiratory/allergy emergencies; and 3) to promote public health awareness and interventions in the emergency department.

Dr. Carol Perlman is a staff clinical psychologist at Massachusetts General Hospital and maintains a private practice in Medway , MA . She has more than 10 years of experience providing therapy for individuals, couples, and adolescents as well as teaching and conducting research in university and medical settings. Dr. Perlman has published numerous articles and presented over 20 papers at national conferences in the areas of bipolar disorder, depression, ADHD, PTSD, and childhood sexual abuse. She has been appointed as an Instructor in Psychology at Harvard Medical Schools and supervises new therapists. She is the co-author of a series of treatment books for adults with ADHD. Dr. Perlman is committed to offering treatment that is based on the most recent scientific studies. Christine is a physical therapist who obtained her Bachelor of Science degree in physical therapy from Daemen College, Amherst New York and her Master of Science in Neurologic Physical Therapy from Massachusetts General Hospital, Institute of Health Professions, in Boston, MA. From 1990 to 1995, she was an Assistant Professor of Physical Therapy, UMDNJ/Rutgers University. She has participated in the ALS clinic since 2004 and joined the Multidisciplinary ALS team as our primary physical therapist in 2006. She strives to maximize each individual's level of physical functioning by identifying safety hazards, recommending exercises, mobility aides, and orthotics, and discussing activity modification, energy conservation and work simplification. Her research interests are in functional measurement, falls and exercise in neurologic disorders.

Dr. Craig Surman is the Scientific Coordinator for the Adult ADHD Research Program of the Clinical and Research Program in Pediatric Psychopharmacology at Massachusetts General Hospital, and an Instructor in Psychiatry at Harvard Medical School.

Dr. Harmon is Assistant Professor of Medicine at Harvard University and a staff physician at Massachusetts General Hospital. He specializes in oncology and hematology, with a particular emphasis on sarcoma, lymphoma, multiple myeloma and immune cytopenias. Dr. Harmon has conducted collaborative research efforts with numerous pharmaceutical firms including GlaxoSmithKline, Novartis, Amgen and Eli Lilly. He received his M.D. from Harvard Medical School.

Dr. Hooper has extensive experience in the field of Infectious Diseases. He is affiliated with Massachusetts General Hospital, where he is Chief of the Infection Control Unit and Fellowship Program Director in the Division of Infectious Diseases. He is Associate Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School. Dr. Hooper has made significant contributions to the field, with his work involving the mechanisms and epidemiology of antibiotic resistance in bacteria with a major focus on the molecular determinants of quinolone action and resistance. He lectures on antimicrobial agents and infectious diseases, antimicrobial resistance, and clinical infections and maintains an active clinical practice in consultative Infectious Diseases at the Massachusetts General Hospital. Dr. Hooper received his B. A. degree in Microbiology from The University of Texas, and his M.D. from Washington University School of Medicine. Dr Hooper was a Research Associate at the National Cancer Institute, and a Fellow in Infectious Diseases, MGH.

David S. Barlow has served as a member of our board of directors since 2000. Since March 2000 Mr. Barlow has served as Chairman of Molecular Insight Pharmaceuticals, Inc., an emerging biopharmaceutical company focused on developing innovative molecular imaging pharmaceuticals and targeted radiotherapeutics for cancer, and as Chief Executive Officer since December 2002. From 1995 to September 1999, Mr. Barlow was President of Pharmaceuticals at Sepracor, Inc., a research-based pharmaceutical company. From 1993 to 1995, Mr. Barlow served as the General Manager of Pharmaceuticals at Sepracor, Inc. Prior to 1993, Mr. Barlow held several senior level positions at Rhone-Poulenc Rorer, Inc., pharmaceutical company, including Vice President, World Wide Marketing and Business Development at Armor Pharmaceutical Company, a subsidiary of Rhone-Poulenc Rorer, Inc. Mr. Barlow serves on the Board of Trustees of Bates College, McLean Hospital and Newton Country Day School.

Debra Shaw-Davis received her BS in Zoology from Iowa State University in 1976 and a Certificate in Physical Therapy from Mayo Clinic in 1978. She completed her post-graduate work at the Institute of Health Professions, Boston, MA with an advanced masters in orthopedic and sports in 1995 and a doctor's in physical therapy in 2003. Her thesis work was on patellofemoral dysfunction. She had her board certification as a Orthopedic Clinical Specialist by the American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties. Dr. Shaw-Davis is a senior physical therapist at Massachusetts General Hospital in outpatient orthopedics. She has worked as a lab instructor at the Institute of Health Professions at both the graduate and post-graduate level.

Dr. Frisman was an NIH Fellow from 1977 to 1982 and a Post-Doctoral Fellow from 1987 to 1989, where he did work in Immunopathology at Massachusetts General Hospital. He served as Chief of Immunopathology at the Armed Forces Institute of Pathology. Dr. Frisman has special expertise in Immunohistochemistry and is the creator of Immunoquery, an internet-based immunohistochemistry database used by hundreds of pathologists throughout the world.

Donald Friswell, a graduate of Bentley College, is currently a Business Analyst with Partners Healthcare System in Boston, MA, where he is a member of the Clinical Systems Management team at Massachusetts General Hospital. He has also served as a corporate consolidations accountant for an international manufacturer, as a customer support analyst and senior software engineer working with financial systems and as a software engineer for a large retail pharmacy chain. Mr. Friswell has had an almost life long association with Prudence Island, first vacationing with his parents and sister on the island in 1951. In 1955, his family bought property here and today he enjoys watching his own daughters explore and enjoy the island and develop friendships with island peers much as he did growing up on the island. In addition to kayaking, enjoying the close proximity to the ocean and the island's quiet atmosphere, Mr. Friswell is extremely interested in island history and he is a member of the Prudence Island Historical and Preservation Society. He is also an active member of the Homestead Plat Improvement Association. A year-round visitor, he can often be found walking in the woods exploring the physical remains of early Prudence - foundations dating back to the mid 1700's to numerous sheep pens, stone walls and other historic sites. Mr. Friswell is committed to working with the Conservancy and other island and off-island groups to help preserve and maintain open space on the island for the enjoyment of others.

Doug Treco co-founded Transkaryotic Therapies, Inc. (TKT, Cambridge, Massachusetts; acquired in 2005 by Shire plc), a multi-platform biopharmaceutical company developing protein and gene therapy products. His most recent position at TKT was Senior Vice President of Research and Development, with responsibility for all activities relating to research, development, and manufacture of biologicals. Doug is currently an independent consultant for the biotechnology and pharmaceutical industries and an Entrepreneur-in-Residence with Morgenthaler Ventures (Boston, MA). He is also a Visiting Scientist in the Center for Computational and Integrative Biology at Massachusetts General Hospital. He has authored numerous peer-reviewed publications and holds 35 US and European patents in the areas of protein production, gene mapping, and gene therapy. Doug received a Ph.D. degree in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from the State University of New York at Stony Brook. He performed post-doctoral studies at the Salk Institute for Biological Studies and in the Department of Molecular Biology at Massachusetts General Hospital.

Dr. Ausubel is a professor of Genetics at the Harvard Medical School and a professor of Molecular Biology at the Massachusetts General Hospital. Dr. Ausubel has authored over 120 publications in the field of plant molecular biology and is editor of the Current Protocols in Molecular Biology. He is an expert in host-pathogen interactions and the molecular basis for signal transduction in plants. He holds a Ph.D. in Molecular Genetics awarded by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, a B.S. in chemistry from the University of Illinois, and is a member of the National Academy of Sciences.

Edgar Savidge received his BS in Mathematics from Vanderbilt University in 1998, a Master of Science in Physical Therapy and Doctor of Physical Therapy from the MGH Institute of Health Professions in 2001 and 2003 respectively. He currently works as a staff physical therapist at Massachusetts General Hospital in outpatient orthopedics with a strong clinical interest in shoulder and lower extremity dysfunction. He is a member of the American Physical Therapy Association and the Sports Physical Therapy Section.

Ephraim Hochberg, M.D. Dr. Hochberg is an instructor at the Department of Clinical Medicine at Harvard Medical School, the Division of Hematology / Oncology at Massachusetts General Hospital, and the Department of Medical Oncology at the Dana Farber Cancer Institute. Fred Hochberg, M.D. Dr. Hochberg is a specialist in neuro-oncology at the Massachusetts General Hospital. He is co-principal investigator of the NCI Consortium, New Approaches in Brain Tumor Therapy. His expertise is in the diagnosis and treatment of tumors of the nervous system and the provision of experimental therapies.

Dr. Rosenberg has an extensive background studying HIV. He is best known for his research on early HIV infection, also known as primary HIV infection. His important findings of immune control of HIV infection during structured treatment interruptions in primary infection were previously published and highly cited in journals, including Science and Nature. Dr. Rosenberg is board-certified in Internal Medicine and Infectious Diseases. His research and clinical practice is focused on the immunopathogenesis of HIV infection with additional work related to infectious disease and transplant medicine. Dr. Rosenberg is an Assistant Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School, where he has been appointed in various academic capacities since 1995, and is a Staff Physician at the Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, where he has also been appointed since 1995. He serves in the capacities of Associate Director of the Clinical Microbiology Laboratory, and Director of the Education Unit of the Clinical Research Program at Massachusetts General Hospital. Dr. Rosenberg is a member of several professional societies and associations, editorial board member of the Journal of Immune-Based Therapies and Vaccines, and Associate Editor of AIDS Clinical Care. Dr. Rosenberg is Chair of the Treatment Working Group of the National Institutes of Health Acute Infection Early Disease Research Program, and a member of the Massachusetts General Hospital Clinical Research Council. Dr. Rosenberg has been co-chair, co-principal investigator, and principal investigator of clinical trials focused on HIV treatment, and has been the beneficiary of several NIH awards. He is a regular presenter in the field of HIV infection and has published over 50 articles in the literature. Dr. Rosenberg obtained his MD from the Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York and completed his internship, assistant residency and chief residency in Internal Medicine at the University of North Carolina.

Ethan Lerner, M.D., Ph.D., Chairman, is a founder of Lerner Medical Devices, Inc. and an inventor of the fiberoptic hairbrush. He is an Associate Professor of Dermatology at Harvard Medical School. Dr. Lerner's laboratory is at the Cutaneous Biology Research Center at Massachusetts General Hospital. He is the author of over 75 articles, and his work has been supported continuously by competitive research grants from the National Institutes of Health for more than ten years. In addition to his academic duties, Dr. Lerner is an innovator with credits including a previous start-up company that was successfully acquired. He holds one dozen U.S. patents.

Fernando Rodriguez-Villa, M.D., is psychiatrist-in-charge, Bipolar and Psychotic Disorders Program, at McLean Hospital, and senior fellow at Harvard Medical School. He is on the attending staff at the Brigham and Women's Hospital as a consultant to the Spanish Clinic. Dr. Rodriguez-Villa is active in medical and psychiatric education at Harvard Medical School and the Massachusetts General Hospital-McLean Residency Program. His main areas of interest include: socio-cultural aspects of care, consumer perspectives, stigma, and the understanding and treatment of bipolar and psychotic disorders. He also maintains a private practice. Formerly, Dr. Rodriguez-Villa was the director, hospital services, at the Massachusetts Mental Health Center; and director, psychiatric crisis service, at the Beth Israel Hospital. Born in Cuba, Dr. Rodriguez-Villa earned his B.S. at the University of Puerto Rico and his M.D. from the College of Physicians and Surgeons, Columbia University. He completed his psychiatric residency at New York Hospital-Cornell Medical Center, Westchester Division, and the Beth Israel Hospital in Boston. Dr. Rodriguez-Villa is a board examiner and certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, and is a member of the American Psychiatric Association and the Massachusetts Psychiatric Society serving in an elected position.

Frank Samuel is Science and Technology Advisor to Ohio Governor Bob Taft. In this role, he chairs the Technology Action Board, which manages the Technology Action Fund and advises the governor on science and technology issues. He also chairs the Biomedical Research and Technology Transfer Commission, which was appointed by Governor Taft to oversee expenditures from the Biomedical Research and Technology Transfer Trust Fund established by the governor and legislature to receive a portion of Ohio's tobacco settlement revenue. Prior to that, Samuel was president of Edison Biotechnology Center, Inc. He earlier held a variety of federal government and trade association positions involved with health and medical technology and practiced law with specialization in food and drug regulation and health care reimbursement. Samuel is a former board member of a dozen public and privately held companies, including STERIS Corporation and Acordia of Northwest Ohio. He is also finance chair of Providence Hospital in Washington, DC., and a member of the Advisory Council of Catalyst Ventures in Baltimore, as well as the Center for Innovative Medical Therapy at the Massachusetts General Hospital. In addition, he is a member of the Community Liaison Program of the Air Force Material Command. Samuel is a graduate of Hiram College and Harvard Law School.

Fredda Zuckerman, LICSW, BCD is a perinatal social worker in the Dept of Vincent Obstetrics at Massachusetts General Hospital. She is the clinical liaison between the Dept of Obstetrics and Perinatal and Reproductive Psychiatry Program. She is a recipient of the MGH Stephanie Macaluso Award for Expertise in Clinical Practice. Ms. Zuckerman was formerly Vice President of the National Association of Perinatal Social Workers. She is coordinator of the Pediatric Bereavement Team and The Comfort and Support after Loss program. She has led miscarriage and late pregnancy loss groups and she has lectured extensively in the areas of perinatal grief. She is the assistant production manager for the film There was a Child: A Documentary About Pregnancy Loss.

Dr. Mansfield is an Instructor in Orthopedic Surgery at Harvard Medical School as well as an Assistant Orthopaedic Surgeon at Massachusetts General Hospital. His teaching and publishing interests include spinal disease and spine surgery. Dr. Mansfield supervises ward service management of patients with spinal disease and spine trauma at Massachusetts General Hospital, and is on the Board of Directors of the Massachusetts Orthopedic Association. Dr. Mansfield received his A.B. from Harvard College. He has a M.S.E.E. from Stanford University and received his M.D. from Harvard Medical School.

Gina R. Kuperberg, M.D., Ph.D., who addressed the symposium next, is conducting imaging studies of thought processes in schizophrenia. Twice a NARSAD Young Investigator Award winner, in 2001 and 2003, she is an associate professor of psychology at Tufts University and a psychiatrist at Massachusetts General Hospital, where she works at the Martinos Center for Biomedical Imaging. Using remarkable new tools to peer inside the living brain, she is establishing links between abnormalities in brain structure and the clinical and cognitive symptoms of schizophrenia.

Dr. Irving Newman is an experienced board certified pediatrician, a fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics, as well as a member of the Massachusetts Medical Society and Middlesex North Medical Society. Dr. Irving Newman is an Assistant Clinical Professor at Tufts University School of Medicine, Assistant Clinical Professor for the Nurse Practitioner Program at Massachusetts General Hospital, a Primary Care Preceptor for Penn State College of Medicine, and a certified Neonatal Resuscitation Program Instructor. Dr. Irving Newman is a member of the pediatric board of the Massachusetts Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics. He is also on the pediatric staff of Tufts New England Medical Center, St. Memorial Hospital, and Lowell General Hospital. Dr. Irving Newman enjoys mentoring medical and nurse practitioner students and educates children at elementary schools on drug prevention. He was also a frequent lecturer to expecting parents at St. Memorial Hospital's prenatal class. Prior to joining his son and colleague at DrumHill Pediatrics in August 2007, Dr. Irving Newman established Chelmsford Pediatrics and was the managing senior partner. Dr. Irving Newman has been an active member of the community, previously serving as Chief of Pediatrics and Nursery at Lowell General Hospital and Saints Memorial Medical Center. Dr. Irving Newman was a member of the Pediatric Liaison Committee for Tufts HMO, and Elementary School Drug Education Program teacher. Dr. Newman graduated medical school from the University of Miami School of Medicine. He then completed his pediatric internship at Medical College of Virginia and his pediatric residency at Montefiore Hospital and Medical Center in New York. Dr. Newman was a Major in the US Army Medical Corps where he served as Chief of Pediatrics at Kagnew Station in Ethiopia. Returning to the United States, he completed a one year Neonatology Fellowship at the Cleveland Metropolitan Hospital in Ohio. Dr. Newman has special interests in all age groups from newborns through young adults, preventive teaching, family issues and allergies.

J. Shannon Swan, M.D., is a Senior Scientist at the Institute for Technology Assessment. He is also an Associate Radiologist at Massachusetts General Hospital in the MusculoSkeletal Division, and an Assistant Professor at Harvard Medical School. He received his BS degree from Creighton University, obtained his medical training at the University of Nebraska, and did his residency in radiology at Indiana University Hospitals. Subsequently, he completed a fellowship in musculoskeletal imaging at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Dr. Swan accepted a staff position at the University of Wisconsin after his clinical fellowship. During his early career, he performed many investigations related to magnetic resonance angiography development, and eventually became interested in health services research due to the health policy implications of less invasive technologies. Dr. Swan is a past winner of the General Electric-Association of University Radiologists Research Academic Fellowship (GERRAF) in technology assessment and outcomes research. He received his research fellowship training under Dennis Fryback while at Wisconsin, with an emphasis on modeling preference-based quality of life. Dr. Swan accepted a position at Indiana University in 1999 to begin a health services research effort in the Department of Radiology. During that appointment he laid the methodologic foundations for most of his current work. He joined the MGH Institute for Technology Assessment in the fall of 2003. His major current interest is in the methodology of health state preference construction, both in holistic and multiattribute utility (MAU) applications, applicable to cost-effectiveness analysis. Dr. Swan has been funded previously as Principal Investigator for three US Public Health Service grants. His first NIH grant was an R01 proposal concentrating on the development of a time-resolved contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance angiography pulse sequence for clinical use. Within that grant, Swan also began implementing an original variant on the holistic time trade-off method, the waiting trade-off (WTO), to measure the short-term quality of life effects of medical testing. His second R01 grant further explored his original work with collaborators on the WTO and was funded by the Agency for Health Research and Quality. His most recent NIH grant was an R03 proposal funded by the National Institute on Aging to begin the process for developing a stroke-specific utility index using an MAU method. He has also recently developed software for use in MAU modeling.

Currently at the Massachusetts General Hospital, Dr. Beckerman has a keen interest in patient education via the internet. A graduate of Harvard Medical School, he has previously explored the relationship between apolipoprotein polymorphisms and postprandial lipemia as a risk factor for atherosclerosis while serving as a Paul Dudley White Fellow for International Research in Puriscal, Costa Rica. Dr. Beckerman is a member of the Massachusetts Medical Society and the Society of General Internal Medicine.

Jay B. Pieper became a director of Biopure in October 2004. Since 1995, he has been vice president for Corporate Development and Treasury Affairs of Partners HealthCare System, Inc., the parent company of several healthcare-related entities including Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Massachusetts General Hospital. From 1986 to 1995, he was senior vice president and chief financial officer of The Brigham Medical Center. He is a director of Eclipsys, a healthcare information systems company; WorldCare, Inc., a global telemedicine company; Controlled Risk Insurance Company (CRICO), Ltd., and the Harvard Clinical Research Institute. He is past director of Financial Executives International and past chairman of the Boston Organization of Teaching Hospital Financial Officers. He received his M.B.A. degree from Washington University in St. Louis, Mo., and his B.A. degree from Cornell College in Mount Vernon, Iowa.

Dr. Jeffrey Gelfand is the Senior Advisor for International Medical Affairs at Partners HealthCare System, the parent organization for the Massachusetts General Hospital, as well as a Senior Attending Physician at MGH and a Visiting Professor at Harvard Medical School. Until recently, Dr. Gelfand served as Director of the International Program of the Center for Integration of Medicine and Innovative Technology (CIMIT), a consortium of M.I.T., The Charles Stark Draper Laboratory, the Massachusetts General Hospital and the Brigham and Women's Hospital. CIMIT's focus is on the development of innovative approaches to medical problems by collaborative research between engineers and physicians. Previously, he had been Dean for Research at Tufts University School of Medicine and Senior Vice President for Research and Technology at the New England Medical Center, positions he assumed in March 1998. From 1994 to 1998, Dr. Gelfand was the Sheldon M. Wolff, MD Professor of Medicine and Chairman of the Department of Medicine of Tufts University School of Medicine and Physician-in-Chief at the New England Medical Center. A 1971 graduate of Tufts University School of Medicine, Dr. Gelfand subsequently did his clinical training at the Johns Hopkins Hospital and at the National Institutes of Health. He is board-certified in Internal Medicine, Infectious Diseases, and Clinical Immunology and Allergy.

Dr. Jim Hopper is an Instructor in Psychology at Harvard Medical School and Massachusetts General Hospital. He conducts research on the long-term effects of child abuse and other traumatic experiences, including posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and substance abuse, and provides therapy to people dealing with these issues. He has nearly 20 years experience in research and clinical work with men sexually abused as children. His research has covered many areas, including how masculine gender socialization shapes emotions in the aftermath of child abuse, the nature of traumatic memories and how these can be transformed by therapy, brain bases of difficulties regulating emotions in PTSD, and the use of alcohol and drugs to deal with the effects of child abuse. Dr. Hopper also maintains a website on child abuse issues that receives over 500,000 unique visitors a year and includes the page, "Sexual Abuse of Males: Prevalence, Lasting Effects, and Resources."

Dr. Weissman is an Associate Professor in the Department of Medicine and the Institute for Health Policy at the Massachusetts General Hospital, and a Lecturer in the Department of Health Care Policy at Harvard Medical School. Joel's main research interests lie in the areas of health care financing, the effects of competition on health system behavior, access to care, and measurement issues associated with access, quality of care, and risk adjustment. He has over 70 publications and has co-authored the book "Falling Through the Safety Net: Insurance Status and Access to Care" (foreword by Hillary Rodham Clinton). He divides his time between work in the area of patient safety, and projects aimed at understanding the social determinants of health care. In patient safety, he is principal investigator of funded investigations examining the relation of hospital crowding to adverse events, the development of natural language processing to identify adverse events, the role of weekend care and the July phenomenon, and the reporting and disclosure of medical errors in hospitals. In the access area, he directs a study exploring the socio-cultural determinants of mammography re-screening, and the preparedness of medical residents to provide cross-cultural care. Joel holds an SB (Phi Beta Kappa) and MCP from MIT and a PhD from Brandeis.

Dr. Joseph P. Vacanti received his MD degree from the University of Nebraska in 1974. He received his training in general surgery at the Massachusetts General Hospital from 1974 through 1981 and in pediatric surgery at The Children s Hospital, Boston from 1981 through 1983. He then received clinical training in transplantation from the University of Pittsburgh. He spent two years in the laboratories of Dr. M. Judah Folkman working in the field of angiogenesis from 1977 through 1979. Upon completion of his training, Dr. Vacanti joined the staff in surgery at Children s Hospital in Boston and began clinical programs in pediatric liver transplantation and extracorporeal membrane oxygenation. In the laboratory, he continued studies in biliary atresia and began work in the field of tissue engineering in 1985. Dr. Vacanti is now John Homans Professor of Surgery at Harvard Medical School, Visiting Surgeon at Massachusetts General Hospital, Director of the Wellman 6 Surgical Laboratories, Director of the Laboratory of Tissue Engineering and Organ Fabrication and Director of Pediatric Transplantation at Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston. He has authored more than 250 original reports, 33 review papers, 35 book chapters, and 390 abstracts. He has more than 50 patents or patents pending in the Canada, United States, Europe, and Japan. His major research areas of interest include: tissue engineering using polymer-cell constructs with its molecular and developmental biology; liver transplantation; biliary atresia - developmental biology of the liver and biliary tract; and congenital diaphragmatic hernia and lung development.

John W. Stakes III, M.D., has served as one of our directors since February 2004. Dr. Stakes has served as an Associate Neurologist at Massachusetts General Hospital since 1990, as Director, Massachusetts General Hospital Sleep Disorders Laboratory, since 1982, and as Director, Specialty Care Development, Massachusetts General Physicians Organization, since 1995. He was a member of the Committee on Continuing Medical Education of the Harvard Medical School. Dr. Stakes has held a teaching position at the Harvard Medical School since 1975.

Joseph Green has been a member of Massachusetts General Hospital Police and Security Department. since 1976, and has maintained a supervisory role in that force since 1986. He is currently the Manager of Police and Security. Mr. Green has long been recognized for his high quality work, and in 1998 he was the winner of a Partner's Award for providing Aggression Training to Police, Security, Nurses, E.D. Clerical, Social Workers and Psychiatrists. He is the Orientation Trainer for newly hired psychiatrists and social workers at the Massachusetts General Hospital, and he regularly provides Aggression training to various other New England hospitals, police departments, and youth and child services. Joseph is also a guest lecturer at Smith & Wesson Institute (Springfield, MA) for Aggression Mangement Mr. Green is a member of a number of security and law enforcement organizations, including the American Society of Industrial Security (A.S.I.S.), American Society of Law Enforcement Trainers (A.S.L.E.T.), Mass. Jules Dienstag, M.D. is an Associate Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School and a Physician at Massachusetts General Hospital. He is recognized worldwide as a leader in pre-clinical and clinic hepatitis research. Dr. Dienstag serves or has served on Advisory Boards for most of the companies involved in development of antiviral drugs for hepatitis B and C. Also, he is one of the Principle Investigators of the NIH-NIDDK-supported Hepatitis C Antiviral Long-term Treatment against Cirrhosis ("HALT-C") Trial. Dr. Dienstag has authored well over 250 publications on viral hepatitis. He served two terms as Associate Editor of Gastroenterology, was the Medical Director for Liver Transplantation and founder of the Liver Clinic at the Massachusetts General Hospital, where he is currently the Executive Director of the Liver-Biliary-Pancreas Center and Editor of its Newsletter.

Karon is a licensed Clinical Social Worker and has worked at Massachusetts General Hospital since 2001. Karon is the lead social worker on a specialized team co-founded with multidisciplinary colleagues to care for medical patients with complex psychosocial issues. Karon has extensive experience providing acute crisis intervention and counseling to patients and families in trauma, emergency, and ICU settings. Karon is involved bioethics initiatives within the hospital and the community. Karon is a Branch Leader and Mental Health Specialist on Massachusetts-1 Disaster Medical Assistance Team. She has deployed domestically in response to hurricane's Ike and Gustav in 2008 and Rita and Katrina in 2005. Karon also deployed internationally providing medical humanitarian relief in Banda Aceh, Indonesia with Project HOPE aboard the United States Naval Ship Mercy during the tsunami relief efforts and to Honduras with Honduras Hope. Karon earned her Masters in Social Work from Simmons Graduate School of Social Work and a BA in Psychology from Colgate University.

Kyle Rodenhi received his BS in Allied Health Pre-Physical Therapy from the University of Connecticut in 1999 and his MS from the University of Connecticutin 2001. He has worked in out-patient orthopedics for five years and has been astaff physical therapist at Massachusetts General Hospital for 2 years. He is also an APTA certifiedclinical instructor and serves as a teaching assistant at the MGH Institute ofHealth Professions.

Dr. Ronan is currently an internist at Massachusetts General Hospital. As Senior Advisor to the Executive Director, Dr. Ronan provides consultation regarding global health and education initiatives, as well as offering guidance on care of the injured soldier or civilian in a war zone. In addition to his medical practice, Dr. Ronan serves as a doctor for the Boston Red Sox and is director of the Thomas S. Durant Fellowship in Refugee Medicine.

Dr. Goldstein is Assistant Professor of Psychiatry, Harvard Medical School; Director, Molecular Aging & Development Lab and Center for Biomedical Metallomics at Brigham and Womena s Hospital, Boston.A Dr. Goldstein is also a Senior Research Scientist at the Genetics and Aging Research Unit, Massachusetts General Hospital. Dr. Goldstein is a board-certified psychiatrist who specializes in geriatric psychiatry at the Brigham & Women's and Massachusetts General Hospitals.A Dr. Goldstein received his medial and doctoral (Neuroscience) degrees from Yale University and is a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Columbia University.A A Dr. Goldstein conducted advanced postdoctoral research in AD and cataract pathophysiology at Harvard.A A A He discovered beta amyloid in the lens of Alzheimera s subjects and continues world leading research in ocular diagnosis of Alzheimera s and other neurodegenerative diseases.

Linda Duffy-Glassman is a medical Social Worker at Rogue Valley Medical Center. She meets with individuals who are interested in bariatric surgery at the pre-admission clinic to share some of the social and emotional changes patients experience after weight-loss surgery. Linda follows each patient while they are in the program. She also facilitates the Bariatric Support Group. Linda obtained her master's in Social Work from Simmons College in Boston. She has 15 years of in-patient medical experience, including work with surgical patients at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, and Norwalk Hospital in Connecticut. Linda's role as an in-patient social worker at Rogue Valley Medical Center is to provide information on resources, as well as support to individuals and families facing life changes due to medical issues. Linda has facilitated groups in the area of weight loss, cancer, and bereavement. She is pleased to be a member of the Southern Oregon Bariatric Center team and looks forward to supporting patients in the long-term success of this life changing process.

Ms. Weiss-Kapp is a speech-language pathologist, and is a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Language Laboratory in the Graduate Program in Communication Sciences and Disorders at Massachusetts General Hospital. She is the President, CEO, and developer of the Wisnia Kapp Reading Program (WKRP), which addresses the needs of children who have language-based learning difficulties.

Martha Herbert, M.D., Ph.D., is an assistant professor of neurology at Harvard Medical School, a pediatric neurologist at the Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston and at the Center for Child and Adolescent Development of Cambridge Health Alliance, and a member of the Harvard-MIT-MGH Martinos Center for Biomedical Imaging. Her research program includes studying what makes some autistic brains unusually large, how the parts of the brain are connected and coordinated with each other, and how we can measure changes in brain function that can result from treatment interventions.

Martha is a pediatric neurologist at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, where she specializes in patients with learning and developmental disorders. She received her MD from Columbia University, her pediatrics training at New York Hospital-Cornell University Medical Center, and her neurology training at Massachusetts General, and she is on the faculty of the Harvard Medical School. Martha pursues research on brain structure abnormalities in developmental disorders, particularly autism. She also works on health and ecological risks of genetically modified food, and on neurotoxins and brain development. Prior to her medical training she obtained an interdisciplinary doctorate from the History of Consciousness program at UC Santa Cruz, studying evolution and development of learning processes in biology and culture. She also has served on the board of the Council for Responsible Genetics.

Matthew Fullerton, B.S.B.A., Director, is a 17 year glioblastoma multiforme brain tumor survivor from Wichita, Kansas. Diagnosed at age 17, Matthew has used his diagnosis to help other patients; facilitate a support group; write a resource guide; and advocate for other survivors. Matthew has presented on patient panels at two national brain tumor conferences. Matthew is a marketing consultant and currently working in the non-profit field with an epilepsy support Organization. David M. Bailey, Director, is a glioblastoma multiforme brain tumor survivor from Earlysville, Virginia. He is a Performing Songwriter with experience as a software-marketing manager prior to his diagnosis. In David's words: "The BRAINTMR List helped save my life. It's a light in the darkness, a compass in the wilderness, and a warm companion on a very long journey. I'm thrilled to join the board of the BRAIN TRUST, pioneers of hope and my personal heroes." Alice Brown, M.D., Ph.D., MMSci., Director, is a neuro-oncologist who received her training at Brigham and Womens Hospital and the Pappas Center for Neuro-Oncology at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, Massachusetts. She is a physician-scientist who does translational research on malignant glioma and CNS lymphoma tumors, and has received a patent for a stem cell-based treatment strategy for glioblastoma. She is also devoted to advancing the care and concerns of patients with brain tumors, serves as a Study Section member at the National Cancer Institute, and is an Instructor in Neurology at Harvard Medical School.

Matthew Travers received his BS in science in 1998, followed by MS in physical therapy in 1999 from Springfield College. He currently works as an outpatient physical therapist at the Massachusetts General Hospital. His clinical interest is in orthopaedics and sports with an emphasis on the shoulder.

Dr. Mehmet Toner is a Professor of Bioengineering at the Harvard Medical School and MGH, and the Director of the Microsystems Bioengineering Laboratory at MGH. He received a B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering from Istanbul Technical University, an M.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering from MIT, and a Ph.D. in Medical Engineering from the Harvard-MIT Division of Health Sciences and Technology. Dr. Toner is internationally recognized in the applications of cell-based microsystems technology in biology and medicine and in tissue engineering and cryopreservation. He has published more than 150 scientific papers in engineering, biological, and clinical journals. Dr. Toner was the recipient of the YC Fung Young Faculty Award in Bioengineering, the Taplin Faculty Fellow Award of Harvard and MIT, and of a fellowship at the American Institute of Medical and Biological Engineering.

Dr. Callahan is board certified in internal medicine, infectious diseases and tropical medicine. Dr Callahan is Director of the Biodefense and Mass-Casualty Care program at the Center for Integration of Medicine and Innovative Technology (www.cimit.org) and a staff physician at the Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston. He also serves as a threat analyst for agencies of the U.S. Government and is the Principal Investigator of a Department of Homeland Security funded research program in counter-terrorism against chemical and biological weapons. In addition to research and clinical responsibilities, Dr. Callahan is an active Command Physician, who has been active in disaster and rescue medicine since the early 80's, and the co-founder of Rescue Medicine, a federal charter air medical evacuation provider with a service responsibility for the health and safety of over 1900 U.S. corporate expatriates living in austere international or conflict regions.

Dr. Michael Filbin is an attending physician in the Emergency Department at Massachusetts General Hospital. He received a bachelor?s degree in aerospace engineering from the University of Washington in Seattle, then worked in manned space flight mission operations at the National Aeronautical and Space Agency (NASA). He went on to graduate from Baylor College of Medicine in Houston. Dr. Filbin completed his residency at the Harvard-affiliated Emergency Medicine Residency Program in Boston, where he now practices and teaches.

Michael Hollander Ph.D, Director of Adolescent Services has been a Senior Affiliate at Two Brattle Center since its inception. Dr. Hollander has been treating Adolescents for over twenty years and has developed an expertise in individual and group therapies, including the use of Dialectical Behavior Therapy with teenagers. He has a strong interest in understanding and treating adolescents who engage in self injurious behavior. Dr. Hollander received his Ph.D in Counseling Psychology from Michigan State University in 1979. He completed a two year Post-Doctoral Fellowship in Adolescent Psychology at McLean Hospital and Harvard Medical School in 1981 at which time he joined the staff at McLean. Dr. Hollander has held several positions at McLean including staff psychologist at the Adolescent Day Service and the Adolescent and Family Treatment Unit, Director of the Adolescent Acute Residential and Partial Progrm (ART) where he is currently the Senior Consultant. In addition to his McLean appointment Dr. Hollander is on the teaching faculty in the Department of Child Psychiatry at the Massachusetts General Hospital, and an Instructor in Psychology in the Department of Psychiatry of the Harvard Medical School. He is a trainer for Behavioral Tech and is the Psychological Consultant to the Willow Hill School in Sudbury MA.

Natascha is a licensed Clinical Social Worker and has worked at Massachusetts General Hospital for the past eight years providing psychosocial assessment, support, and resources to our community's most disadvantaged patients and families. Natascha has extensive experience and training in working with victims of trauma and abuse. For nine years, she volunteered weekly at AIDS Action Committee providing support to people living with HIV/AIDS. Natascha is a member of MA-1 DMAT as a Mental Health Specialist and deployed domestically after Hurricane Katrina. She also volunteered with Project HOPE on the USNS Mercy in Indonesia providing medical humanitarian relief after the tsunami. Natascha earned her MSW at Boston College School of Social Work and a BS in Biology from Trinity College.

Oswald "Oz" Mondejar is a Human Resources Professional and Management Consultant specializing in the development and execution of Recruitment, Orientation, and Retention Programs, Diversity Management, Disability Awareness and Reasonable Accommodation. He also assists organizations large and small with start-up and organization activities. Mr. Mondejar has almost twenty years of experience in Human Resources currently in Executive Recruitment at Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH). He is the recipient of a number of awards recognizing his expertise, including the Sheraton Corporation's President's Award, the Social Security Administration's Commissioner's Citation and the National Foundation for Teaching Entrepreneurship's Teacher of the Year Award. In addition, Mr. Mondejar has owned and operated his own small business and has worked as a freelance Human Resources Consultant. His clients have included Fleet, Boston College, and Bull Electronics. Oz worked as the principal Human Resources Manager in a number of different industrial environments including manufacturing, medical and hospitality. As Regional Human Resources Manager at the Norton Company, an international manufacturer of building materials, tools and abrasives, he supported 600-1000 employees and managers in the areas of recruitment, compensation, incentive and recognition programs, personnel policy administration, employee relations, legal compliance, team-building, management development, succession planning, affirmative action/EEO and community outreach. He was Director of Human Resources at the Willows of Westborough & Beaumont, where he set up the Human Resources function, established procedures and staffed those facilities. He also served as Personnel Manager for the Sheraton Corporation. At the Sheraton Corporation, he served as Human Resources Director for both union and non-union properties, and was a member of start-up and opening teams for the Sheraton Inn Harbor Hotel in Baltimore, and the Sheraton Harbor Island Hotel in San Diego. His academic background includes a Bachelor's degree in Human Resources from Lesley College. Mr. Mondejar is also very active in the community. He is a Board Member of the Latino Professional Network, Spaulding Rehabilitation's Board of Overseers, and serves on the Advisory Boards of Partners for Youth With Disabilities, AIDS Action Committee, Resource Partnership and the Massachusetts Business Leadership Network. Last but not least, Oz is Co-Chairperson of the Governor's Commission for Employment of People with Disabilities.

Ms. Nalipinski has worked as a speech and language pathologist for nearly 20 years. For the past 15 years she has worked at Massachusetts General Hospital where she has served on numerous committees, including the Collaborative Governance Quality Committee and the Acute Stroke Quality Team. She is a Salem parent and has been involved in the community as a school council member and as a local church volunteer. Ms. Nalipinski holds a M.A. in Speech Pathology from Temple University.

Pamela Enders, Ph.D. is on the faculty of Harvard Medical School and serves as a teacher/supervisor at the Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) in Boston. An adjunct faculty member at Temple University's Beasley School of Law, Dr. Enders also writes a monthly column for the New Jersey Lawyer. She is a member of the Private Sector Network of Inner City Entrepreneurs in Boston. A psychologist-coach with 27 years experience, Dr. Enders works with insurance professionals, attorneys, executives, entrepreneurs, financial services professionals, academics, and performing artists, providing executive coaching and consultation, individual and group coaching and training in mental toughness techniques, presentation skills, strengths-based consultation, work-life separation, and communication.

Patricia Reid Ponte, RN, DNSc, FAAN, also serves as the nursing director of the Hematology/Oncology, Bone Marrow Transplant Program at Brigham and Women's Hospital and as the cancer center nurse leader for Dana-Farber/Partners CancerCare. She received her bachelor's degree in nursing from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, and her master's and doctorate degrees from Boston University. Dr Reid Ponte completed a three year Robert Wood Johnson Nurse Executive Fellowship in 2004 and was inducted into the American Academy of Nursing.

Dr. Pappas is an assistant professor of pediatrics at Massachusetts General Hospital and attending physician at Children's Hospital, Brigham and Women's Hospital, and Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital. She is also a clinical instructor at Harvard Medical School. Dr. Pappas has practiced pediatric and adolescent medicine at Milton Pediatrics since 1994. Fluent in Greek, Dr. Pauline Pappas has been president of the New England Hellenic Medical Society, of which she was a former Board member. Trained as a biomedical engineer at Boston University, Dr. Pappas also earned her medical degree from her undergraduate alma mater.

Peter Butler is a Consultant Plastic Surgeon and Honorary Senior Lecturer at the Royal Free and University College Hospitals, London and a Consultant in Plastic Surgery at the Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston, USA. He went to medical school at the Royal College of Surgeons and Physicians of Ireland. He became a fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (FRCS) in 1991 and the Royal College of Surgeons of England (FRCS) in 1992. He began training in Plastic Surgery in Dublin followed by a research fellowship in Plastic Surgery at the Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School, Boston, USA. He completed training in London. He obtained his speciality fellowship in Plastic Surgery of the Royal College of Surgeons in 1998, FRCS (Plast.). He is widely published in plastic surgery with over one hundred publications in Plastic Surgery. One of his main areas of research is facial transplantation and his work in this field spans 14 years. He leads the UK Facial Transplant team. The work he has been involved in has received awards from the New England Society of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeons, the American Society of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeons, the Plastic Surgery Research Council, USA and the British Association of Plastic Surgeons. In 2005, he was appointed Visiting Professor to the Divisions of Plastic Surgery, University of Pittsburgh and MD Anderson Cancer Centre, Texas.

Dr. Clifford Woolf is an advisor to PureTech and the founding SAB Chairman of Solace Pharmaceuticals, a PureTech portfolio company focused on novel treatments for pain. Dr Woolf is the first incumbent of the Richard Kitz Chair of Anesthesia Research at Harvard Medical School and Massachusetts General Hospital. After training for his MD and PhD at the University of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg South Africa, Dr Woolf moved to England in 1978, where he worked at University College London for close to 20 years, latterly as a Professor of Neurobiology. In 1997 Dr Woolf moved to Boston and established the Neural Plasticity Research Group based in the Department of Anesthesia and Critical Care at the Massachusetts General Hospital and which is a part of the Neuroscience Program at Harvard Medical School. Dr. Woolf's research has led to numerous scientific breakthroughs, including the identification of the role of "central sensitization" in inflammatory and neuropathic pain.

Dr. Maloney was born in New York in 1940 and graduated with honors from Georgetown University, Washington D.C. and received his MD degree with honors in 1967 from New York Medical College. He then spent five years at St. Vincent's Hospital and Medical Center, New York University School of Medicine finishing as Senior Chief Resident in General Surgery in 1972. Dr. Maloney was on active duty in the US Navy Medical Corps as a Lt. Commander during the Viet Nam Conflict serving as Chief of Sick Officers Unit and the ICU and finished his active duty as Acting Chief of Surgery in June, 1974 when US Navy Hospital Boston, Chelsea, MA was de-commissioned. At that time he received a Presidential Unit Citation for care of the returning POW's and it was here, at the Navy Blood Research Laboratory, that he first started his interest and research in blood auto- transfusion. After his military service he was the first Clinical and Research Fellow in Vascular Surgery at the Massachusetts General Hospital, Harvard Medical School helping to establish the first criteria for Non-Invasive Vascular Testing and where he continued his experiences with Autologous Whole-Blood Autotransfusion. He has continued as a Clinical Associate at the Massachusetts General Hospital since 1975. From 1975 to 1985 he was also Chief of Surgery at the Massachusetts (now Spaulding) Rehabilitation Hospital. In 1975 he joined Beverly Surgical Associates and became an active staff member of Beverly Hospital serving terms as Chief of ICU and the Department of Surgery. At Beverly he established and is the Medical Director of the first Non-Invasive Vascular Diagnostic Laboratory in a Massachusetts community hospital and continues research in autotransfusion. Dr. Maloney is a diplomat of the American Board of Surgery, and a member of many professional societies including the American College of Surgeons, Massachusetts Medical Society, the New England Society for Vascular Surgery, Eastern Vascular Society and the International Society of Cardiovascular Surgery, and American Association of Vascular Surgery. He has written or co-authored over 20 journal articles and traveled extensively throughout the world teaching and lecturing as an authority on the technique and use of autotransfusion in general and vascular surgery. His special interests also include the use of laparoscopic techniques in general and vascular surgery. He is active also in community service as former Board Chairman of the Bay Area VNA, and Board member of the YMCA, charter member of Washington's Naval Base at Beverly and in the Beverly Rotary Club.

Ranna Parekh, M.D. is an expert in conflict resolution and highly charged, emotional negotiations in which an on-going relationship is critical. As a member of the Watershed Associates' faculty, she facilitates Best Negotiating Practice workshops as well as conducts research. Additionally, she is a physician with an expertise in child, adolescent and adult psychiatry at Massachusetts General Hospital and McLean Hospital, both primary teaching hospitals for Harvard Medical school. Among her clinical duties, she leads a medical team that negotiates for the rights and treatments of her patients and their families. On a daily basis, she interfaces with competing interests such as the legal and court systems, educational institutions and insurance companies.
