Don Wilson is immediate past president and chairman of the board of the Calgary Exhibition & Stampede. Prior to beginning his two-year term in 2003, he was president and CEO and a member of the board of directors of Prudential Steel Limited. After a 34-year career, Don retired from Prudential in 2000. Don has been a Stampede volunteer since 1964, and a shareholder since 1973. He began his volunteer involvement with the Downtown Attractions committee before joining the Rodeo committee, where he served as chair from 1985 until 1988. During his tenure with the Rodeo committee, his leadership led the way to the implementation of a plan for the first box seats in the infield. Since being elected as a director in 1988, Don has been responsible for 12 committees. Don's contribution to the Stampede has been immense, but he is particularly gratified by his 1988 involvement, when he chaired the Olympic Rodeo committee - the first of its kind in any Olympics. Following his retirement in 2000, he was elected to the board of Maverick Tube Corporation, a position he retired from in 2004. Don also served as president of both the 400 Club and the Calgary Petroleum Club. Born and raised in the Calgary area, Don enjoys cattle penning and golfing. He and his wife Joan, known for co-authoring The Best of the Bridge series cookbooks, have one daughter, two sons, and seven grandchildren.
