City Commission President Dennis W. Johnson is Chairman, Chief Executive officer, and majority stockholder of TMI Systems Design Corporation, TMI Transport Corporation, and TMI Storage Systems Corporation all of Dickinson, North Dakota. Mr. Johnson is a native of Tioga, North Dakota. He is a graduate of North Dakota State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering and a Master of Science degree in Industrial Engineering with a business finance minor. He joined TMI in 1974 as Plant Industrial Engineer, becoming President in 1982, majority stockholder in 1985, and Chairman in 1999. Mr. Johnson was elected to a four-year term as President of the Dickinson City Commission in June 2000 receiving 79% of the vote. He currently serves as a board member of the Dickinson State University Foundation, member of the executive committee of the University of Mary Harold Schafer Leadership Center, and Chairperson of the Theodore Roosevelt Medora Foundation. Mr. Johnson is a former Director of the Federal Reserve Bank of Minneapolis having served two three-year terms beginning in January 1993. He was chair of the small business, industry, and labor advisory council and chair of the bank's audit committee. He is past Chairperson of the North Dakota Workforce Development Council, the Decorative Laminate Products Association, the North Dakota Technology Corporation, St. Joseph Hospital Life Care Foundation, St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, and Dickinson United Way. He has twice chaired the Dickinson State University Presidential Search Committee with the first search occurring during 1994-95 and the second during 1998-99. Mr. Johnson, following the November 2000 election, chaired Governor John Hoeven's transition team. He was the honorary co-chair of the Hoeven for Governor committee and delivered the nominating speech for John Hoeven at the 2000 state Republican convention. He has served of Governor Sinner's Education Action Commission, North Dakota Job Service Advisory Council, Governor Schafer's 1992 Transition Team and the North Dakota Vision 2000 Committee. Mr. Johnson is the recipient of the 1990 Dickinson State University Meritorious Service Award, the Small Business Administration 1991 North Dakota Small Business Person of the Year Award and the 1991 Regional Small Business Person of the Year Award. He received the GNDA (state chamber of commerce) Greater North Dakotan Award in 1991. He and his wife, Nancy, have three children, Tim, Amie, and Christopher. Nancy Johnson is a graduate of North Dakota State University and is active in the Dickinson community. She served fifteen years as a member of the Dickinson School Board holding local, state, and national leadership positions. Currently, she is a member of the North Dakota House of Representatives.
