Dr. Iwaki holds three professorships at the University of Southern California School of Medicine in the Departments of Urology, Surgery and Pathology and has been Director of the Transplantation Immunology and Immunogenetic Laboratory since 1992. He is also a visiting professor at the Nihon University School of Medicine, Kyushu University and the Tokyo Women's Medical School in Japan. Prior to joining the faculty at the University of Southern California School of Medicine, Dr. Iwaki held professorships at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine in the Departments of Surgery and Pathology from 1989 through 1991. He received both his M.D. and Ph.D. degrees from Sapporo Medical School in Sapporo, Japan. Dr. Iwaki is the author of 200 peer-reviewed publications and more than 40 books. He has been advising pharmaceutical companies and venture capital funds regarding research and investment strategies for over 20 years and is a board member of several biotechnology companies.

Dr. Locke has 20 years experience in drug discovery, preclinical and early clinical development. Dr. Locke was formerly Vice President of Research at Tanabe Research Laboratories U.S.A., Inc. (TRL). Prior to joining TRL, Dr. Locke served as Executive Director, Preclinical Development at Interneuron Pharmaceuticals, Inc. He joined Interneuron in 1989 as Manager, Behavioral Neuroscience, taking on positions of increasing responsibility over the next 11 years. Earlier in his career, Dr. Locke headed Hoechst-Roussel Pharmaceuticals' laboratories for analgesics and anti-inflammatory research as well as Alzheimer's disease. Dr. Locke holds an Adjunct Associate Professorship of Pharmacology at Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Allied Health Sciences. Dr. Locke earned an M.S. and Ph.D. in Pharmacology from Emory University School of Medicine.

From 2002 until early 2004, Mr. Anderson was an advisor and consultant to MontRidge, LLC, an investor relations firm specializing in biotechnology. He was President and Chief Executive Officer of Cognetix, Inc., a privately held biotechnology company in Salt Lake City, UT, from 1998 to 2002. Earlier, he was Senior Vice President of Marketing and Commercial Development at Interneuron (now Indevus) Pharmaceuticals and from 1987 until 1995 he held various executive positions in marketing, strategic planning and business development at Bristol-Myers Squibb. Mr. Anderson began his career in the pharmaceutical industry with the Upjohn Company of Canada, where he progressed through a series of sales, sales management and marketing management assignments. He currently sits on the Boards of two biotechnology companies, Oragenics, Inc. and Omni Genetics, Inc.

Ms. Terhorst joined MediciNova in November 2000, becoming Director, Strategic Development in August 2003. She was appointed Vice President, Business Planning and Analysis in November 2005. Previously, she was Associate Director for Market Research with Ligand Pharmaceuticals from 1998 to 2000. Prior to that, Ms. Terhorst served in a variety of positions in Finance, Market Research, and Marketing for General Electric Medical Systems, Hybritech Incorporated, and Molecular Biosystems. Ms. Terhorst holds a Master of Business Administration from the University of Chicago.

Mr. Lotz has more than 20 years of experience in regulatory affairs and quality assurance roles at several pharmaceutical companies including Isis Pharmaceuticals, Amylin Pharmaceuticals, and Abbott Laboratories. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy from the St. Louis College of Pharmacy.

Mr. Okajima joined MediciNova in September 2006. Before joining MediciNova, Mr. Okajima served as Deputy General Manager, Daiwa Securities SMBC Co., Ltd. From 1999 through 2002, Mr. Okajima served as Manager, Daiwa Securities' SB Capital Markets Co., Ltd. (currently Daiwa Securities SMBC Co., Ltd.). As Deputy General Manager, Mr Okajima was involved in pivotal phases of initial public offerings, subsequent public offerings, corporate bond issuances, and mergers & acquisitions. In addition, he handled Investors Relations and stock trading. From 1996 to 1999, Mr. Okajima served as Manager, Sumitomo Capital Securities Co., Ltd. Mr. Okajima served in various positions at Sumitomo Bank, Ltd. (currently Mitsui Sumitomo Bank) between 1991 and 1996. Mr. Okajima graduated with a B.S. Degree from the Department of Science and Technology, Tokyo Science University.

Mr. Asako joined MediciNova in July 2005. Before joining MediciNova, he was an audit senior manager at KPMG LLP (KPMG), where he provided a variety of audit and business consulting services to multinational clients and industries including pharmaceutical, manufacturing, distribution, and freight-forwarding and transportation. Mr. Asako was also responsible for the development and expansion of KPMG's Japanese practice in the Orange County and San Diego areas. Before joining KPMG, he spent four years with Arthur Andersen LLP providing audit and tax advisory services. Mr. Asako is a graduate of the Leventhal School of Accounting at the University of Southern California. Mr. Asako is a certified public accountant of the state of California and a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants.

Maria Feldman has over 17 years of pharmaceutical industry experience. Ms. Feldman joined MediciNova, Inc. in 2004 as Associate Director, Regulatory Affairs and was appointed Director of Regulatory Affairs in 2005. Previously, she held positions in regulatory affairs, quality assurance, pharmaceutical development and research at Isis Pharmaceuticals, Inc. and Multiple Peptide Systems. She has a broad-range of experience, in several therapeutic areas, from formulating regulatory strategies, developing registration plans, and submitting applications to worldwide health authorities, including the FDA, Health Canadaand the EMEA. Ms. Feldman has also lectured at the University of California San Diego Adult Extension Center on Regulatory and Clinical Affairs. At her most recent position at Isis Pharmaceuticals, she was involved in the regulatory approval Vitravene. Ms. Feldman received her BA in Chemistry from St. Olaf College.

Arlene Morris brings significant expertise in the establishment of strategic partnerships, marketing and operations to MediciNova. She was appointed President and CEO of Affymax, Inc. in June 2003. She has over 25 years of management experience from Johnson & Johnson, Scios Inc., Coulter Pharmaceutical, Inc. and Clearview Projects. While at Coulter, she completed numerous transactions, including the $1.0 billion merger between Coulter and Corixa and a contractual joint venture with GlaxoSmithKline for Bexxar® valued in excess of $200 million. Previously, Ms. Morris was the Vice President of Business Development at Scios Inc. where she completed several high profile transactions including one of the first biotech profit-sharing deals for a late-stage product. From 1977 through 1993, Ms. Morris held various management and executive positions at Johnson & Johnson in sales, marketing, new product development and business development, holding the position of Vice President of Business Development for McNeil Pharmaceutical from 1988 to 1993. She received her B.A. degree in Biology and Chemistry from Carlow College and studied marketing at Western New England College. Arlene is also on the Board of BIO, the Biotechnology Industry Organization.

Daniel Vapnek, PhD, is currently an adjunct professor at the University of California, Santa Barbara, and has played an influential role in biotechnology in both academics and industry. For 16 years, Dr. Vapnek was the head of research at Amgen, the world's largest biotechnology company. He joined Amgen in 1981 as the director of research when the company had 36 employees, and rose to senior vice president of research by 1988. When he retired in 1997, the company had more than 5,000 employees worldwide and revenues of $2.4 billion. While at Amgen, Dr. Vapnek worked closely with Philip Whitcome, PhD, Amgen's former director of strategic planning and also one of its first employees. Prior to joining Amgen, Dr. Vapnek held a number of positions at the University of Georgia and the Yale University School of Medicine. He was awarded both his BS (1963) and PhD (1968) by the University of Miami in Florida.

Hideki Nagao has been employed by the Development Bank of Japan since 1980. Mr. Nagao is currently Director General, Department for Technology and Growth Business at the Development Bank of Japan. He graduated from the Faculty of Law, Tokyo University.

Dr. Himawan is Managing Director for Essex Woodlands Health Ventures. At Essex Woodlands, Dr. Himawan has led several of the firms’ investments in the biotechnology arena, including an investments in Symphogen (a Danish-based company with a novel, antibody-producing platform technology), Iomai (a company with a method of delivering vaccines through the skin), Light Sciences Oncology (a company focused on the development of Light Infusion Technology™ for the treatment of solid tumors), and MediciNova. Prior to joining Essex Woodlands, Dr. Himawan was co-founder and Managing Director of Seed-One Ventures (Seed-One), a venture capital firm that specializes in the initial formation, financing, and early operational development of technology-based companies. At Seed-One, Dr. Himawan created and managed several early-stage companies including Elusys Therapeutics, a New Jersey-based biotechnology company. Prior to his experiences at Seed-One ventures, Dr. Himawan was a bench scientist with basic research experience in both industrial and academic settings. Dr. Himawan holds a B.S. degree in biology from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and obtained a Ph.D. degree in biological chemistry and molecular pharmacology from Harvard University.

Dr. Prendergast has served as President of Summer Cloud Bay Inc., an independent consulting firm providing services to the biotechnology industry since 1993. Dr. Prendergast is a co-founder and director of the biopharmaceutical companies Avigen, Inc., AVAX Technologies, Inc. and Palatin Technologies, Inc., and serves as Chairman of the Board of Directors of AVAX and Palatin. Dr. Prendergast received M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees from the University of New South Wales, Sydney, Australia, and a C.S.S. in Administration and Management from Harvard University.
