Richard O’Brien was elected president and chief executive officer in 2007, having previously served as president and chief financial officer and executive vice president and chief financial officer during 2006 and 2007, and as senior vice president and chief financial officer from 2005 to 2006. Mr. O'Brien was executive vice president and chief financial officer of AGL Resources in Atlanta, Georgia from 2001. Mr. O'Brien previously served in senior executive positions for Mirant (formerly Southern Energy, Inc.) and PacifiCorp. He has over 20 years of broad financial and operational experience in the energy, power and natural resources businesses. A graduate of the University of Chicago, Mr. O'Brien received his bachelor of arts degree in economics. He also holds a doctor of jurisprudence degree from Lewis and Clark College, Northwestern School of Law.

David A. Baker has been vice president and chief sustainability officer since June 2008, after having served as vice president, Environmental Affairs and Sustainable Development since 2004. He had served as vice president of Environmental Affairs from 1991 until 2004. He also served as vice president of Environmental and Government Affairs from 1998 to 2001. Mr. Baker received his Bachelor of Science degree in geology from the University of Arizona and completed the Harvard Business School's Advanced Management Program in 1997.

Russell Ball was elected executive vice president and chief financial officer in October 2008, after having served as senior vice president and chief financial officer since 2007, vice president and controller from 2004 to 2007. Previously, he had served as group executive, Investor Relations, and as financial director and controller for Newmont's Indonesian business unit. Mr. Ball joined Newmont in 1994 as senior internal auditor after practicing as an accountant with Coopers and Lybrand in Durban, South Africa. He holds a master’s degree in accounting from the University of Natal (South Africa) and is both a chartered accountant in South Africa and a certified public accountant in the United States.

Gerald Gluscic was elected vice president and chief information officer, Information Technology in 2008. Mr. Gluscic joined Newmont from Swift Transportation, where he served as executive vice president of Business Transformation. Prior to his position at Swift, he served as vice President and chief information officer for Phelps Dodge Corporation for 7 years, and added responsibilities for Global Supply Chain and Financial Shared Services. He also was chief information officer at Phelps Dodge / Freeport McMoRan Copper and Gold. Mr. Gluscic was previously vice president and CIO of Borden Foods Corporation, and held executive leadership positions with Kellogg Company in Latin America, Asia, and in Europe and Africa. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in marketing from Indiana State University.

Roger Johnson was designated the Controller and Chief Accounting Officer in 2007. Mr. Johnson previously served as Assistant Controller from 2004 to 2007. He also served as the Operations Controller and the Regional Controller, Australia from 2003 to 2004. Prior to joining the Company, Mr. Johnson served as Senior Vice President, Finance and Administration at Pasminco Zinc, Inc. from 2002 to 2003. He also served in various capacities, including Vice President Finance and Control, for Kennecott Corporation, a subsidiary of Rio Tinto PLC, from 1989 to 2002. Mr. Johnson, a Certified Public Accountant in the United States, practiced public accounting with Coopers & Lybrand from 1979 to 1989. Mr. Johnson holds both a Masters of Professional Accountancy degree and a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from the University of Utah.

Tom has been a practicing geophysicist for over 30 years most recently as Chief Geophysicist for Newmont Mining Corporation. Tom is an expert in all aspects of applying geophysical techniques to exploring for buried gold deposits. He has played a critical role in our current field programs, melding geophysics with geological criteria for the orientation of our drilling campaigns.

Alan R. Blank was elected executive vice president, Legal and External Affairs in October 2008, after having served as senior vice president, Legal and External Affairs since July 2008. Prior to joining Newmont, Mr. Blank was a member at the law firm of Stoel Rives LLP in Portland, Oregon, where he practiced since 1988. His practice included mergers and acquisitions, finance and commercial transactions. Mr. Blank was the lead lawyer for the $9 billion sale of PacifiCorp by Scottish Power plc to MidAmerican Energy in 2005-2006. He earned a law degree from Washington University School of Law and received a bachelor’s degree in Political Science from Washington University.

Brian Hill was elected executive vice president, Operations in October 2008, after having served as vice president, Asia Pacific Operations since January 2008. Previously, he served as the managing director of LionOre Australia, and chief executive officer and managing director of ASX-listed Equatorial Mining Limited. Mr. Hill also served in a number of senior executive positions with Falconbridge Limited in Australia, Canada and Chile and has more than 25 years of experience in operations, project development and corporate development in the mining industry. He holds a master's of business administration degree from the University of Western Ontario and a Bachelor of Science degree in mining engineering from Queen's University. Mr. Hill is also a registered professional engineer in the Province of Ontario, Canada.

Mr. Banks is responsible for overseeing the legal, land, environmental affairs, communications, government relations, community relations, internal audit, and security functions of the Corporation. Mr. Banks joined Newmont in 1993 from the law firm of Holland & Hart, and has served as the Company's General Counsel since 2001.

Randy Engel was elected executive vice president, Strategic Development in September 2008, after having served as senior vice president, Strategy and Corporate Development since 2007. Mr. Engel has been with the company since 1994, and has served in various capacities in the areas of business planning, corporate treasury and human resources. Mr. Engel holds a Master's of Science in finance earned from the University of Denver, and a bachelor's degree in business administration from the University of Colorado.

Guy Lansdown was elected Senior Vice President, Project Development and Operations Services in 2007, having served as Vice President, Project Engineering and Construction from 2006 to 2007. He previously served as Project Executive on the $1.5 billion Boddington project in Australia. Prior to this, he held key project and operating positions for Newmont throughout the world including Indonesia, Peru and Australia. He joined Newmont in 1993 as Project Manager for Minera Yanacocha after serving as an Associate for Knight Piesold and Manager of Projects for Group Five in South Africa. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering and a Master of Science in Project Management from the University of the Witwatersrand, South Africa.

Mr. Engel has been with the company since 1994, and has served in various capacities in the areas of business planning, corporate treasury and human resources. Brant Hinze was elected senior vice president, North American Operations in October 2008, after having served as vice president, North American Operations since 2005. Mr. Hinze had served as general manager of the Minera Yanacocha operations in Peru since 2003. Mr. Hinze previously managed Newmont's Minahasa and Martabe projects, and held various managerial positions for Battle Mountain Gold, Echo Bay Mines and Asarco since 1984. Mr. Hinze holds a bachelor’s degree in mining engineering from the University of Idaho.

Dr. Carlos Enrique Santa Cruz was elected senior vice president, South American Operations in October 2008, after having served as vice president, South American Operations since 2001. Prior to that he was general manager of Minera Yanacocha S.R.L., a joint venture mining operation in Northern Peru, in which Newmont holds a 51.35 percent interest. Dr. Santa Cruz joined Minera Yanacocha in 1992 as operations manager. He was named assistant general manager in 1995 and general manager in 1997. He holds a master's degree in mining engineering from Michigan Technological University and a master's degree in industrial engineering and a doctoral degree in mining engineering from Pennsylvania State University.

Darla Caudle was elected Senior Vice President in 2006, having served as Vice President and Group Executive, Human Resources, since joining the company in 2002. Ms. Caudle was previously Vice President of Human Resources at LaFarge. Ms. Caudle has worked 24 years as a Director of Human Resources, 18 of which were with Burlington Northern Railroad. Ms. Caudle has affiliations with the Colorado Human Resource Association, Society of Human Resources Management, and Colorado Women's Education and Employment. Ms. Caudle holds a bachelor's degree in Business Administration from Regis University.

Jeffrey R. Huspeni was elected Vice President, Exploration Business Development in 2005, having served as Vice President of Mineral District Exploration since 2002. Previously, he served as Vice President, Exploration, Vice President, Business Development, Vice President of Mine Geology and Director of Mine Geology. He joined Newmont in 1982. Prior to joining Newmont, Mr. Huspeni worked as an exploration geologist for several firms. He holds a bachelor's degree in geology from the University of Minnesota and a master's degree in geology from the University of Michigan.

M. Stephen Enders was elected Senior Vice President, Worldwide Exploration in 2006. Mr. Enders joined Newmont as Vice President of Worldwide Exploration in 2003 from Phelps Dodge Exploration Corporation, where he had been President. With over 14 years of service at Phelps Dodge, Mr. Enders had positions of increasing responsibility, starting as a senior project geologist, working as Chief Geologist at the Morenci copper mine in Arizona, and leading to Vice President of Minesite Exploration. His previous experience includes Galactic Resources, Pegasus Gold, Texas Gulf and Terradex Corporation. He earned an undergraduate degree from the Colorado School of Mines, a master's in geological engineering from the University of Arizona and a doctorate in geosciences also from the University of Arizona.

Ali Soltani was named Vice President Technical Services in August 2008, after having served as Group Executive South America Operations from 2007 to 2008. Previously, he served as Yanacocha Operations Manager from 2006 to 2007 and Director of Nevada Operations from 2004 to 2005. Mr. Soltani joined Newmont as a Senior Mining Engineering at the Carlin site in Nevada in 1989, later becoming the General Manager at multiple sites in Nevada. He holds a degree in Business Administration from the University of South Dakota and a Masters degree in Mining Engineering from South Dakota School of Mines and Technology.

D. Scott Barr was designated Vice President, Technical Strategy and Development in 2004, after having served as Vice President and Chief Technical Officer since January 2001. Previously he served as Vice President of South American Operations from 1999 to 2001. Prior to that, he was Vice President, Projects for two years. He earned a master's degree in metallurgical engineering from the MacKay School of Mines and also has bachelor's degrees in metallurgical and chemical engineering from the University of Idaho.

Mr. Gutierrez was named Vice President, Tax, in December 2005. Prior to joining Newmont, he was a partner with KPMG LLP from June 2002 to December 2005, serving as the Denver office Tax Managing Partner from September 2003 to December 2005. Prior to that he was a partner with Arthur Andersen LLP, serving as the Tax Managing Partner of the Denver office from September 1997 to June 2002.

David Faley was elected vice president, Corporate Development, in July 2007. Mr. Faley previously served as group executive, Newmont Capital from July 2004 to June 2007, and vice president, Newmont Capital-Australia from 2003 to 2004. Mr. Faley was director, Land for Newmont from 1996 to 2003, and manager of Lands, U.S. from 1993 to 1996. Prior to joining Newmont in 1988, Mr. Faley held various managerial positions at W. E. Mays & Associates, a consulting land firm, since 1983. Mr. Faley graduated from the William O. Douglas Honor's College at Central Washington University, with a Bachelor of Arts degree in geography and land studies.

John Seaberg was designated vice president, Investor Relations in 2008, having previously served as group executive, Investor Relations since 2007. Since July 2006, he had served as group executive, Internal Audit. Prior to that, he served as the director of Corporate Development. Mr. Seaberg joined Newmont in 1994 as an internal audit manager and later became financial manager, Newmont Capital. He holds a master's of business administration from the University of Denver, and a bachelor's degree in business administration from the Colorado State University.

Michael J. Byrne was elected vice president, Health, Safety and Business Excellence in 2008. Mr. Byrne served as global group executive HSLP and Continuous Improvement from 2005 to 2008 and global director HSLP from 2003 to 2005. Mr. Byrne also held various safety management positions at Compañía Minera Antamina (Peru), WMC Resources (Australia) and Fording Coal (Canada). Prior to his employment in the mining industry, Mr. Byrne served as a search and rescue specialist with the Canadian Armed Forces. Mr. Byrne holds a Bachelor of Science degree in occupational health and safety from Curtin University of Technology (Australia).

Noreen Doyle was the First Vice President of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development from 2001 to 2005. Ms. Doyle currently sits on the Board of Directors of Credit Suisse Group, QinetiQ, and Rexam PLC and has served as the chair of the Budapest Bank Supervisory Board.

Stephen P. Gottesfeld was elected vice president, Communications and Public Affairs in 2006. He served as associate general counsel from 2004 to 2006, responsible for Newmont's Latin American, African and Central Asian legal offices. From 2002 to 2004, Mr. Gottesfeld was Newmont's associate general counsel and general manager of Newmont Peru S.R.L. Mr. Gottesfeld spent three years of his career with Newmont in Lima, Peru. Prior to joining Newmont in 1997 as senior counsel, Mr. Gottesfeld was an associate at the law firm of Holland & Hart LLP. He earned a law degree and a master's degree in international affairs from the University of Denver in 1993 and received a Bachelor of Arts degree in economics from The Colorado College in 1989.

Thomas Mahoney was elected a Vice President in 2002. He has been Treasurer since 2001. Previously he served as Corporate Assistant Treasurer from 1996 to 2001. Mr. Mahoney joined the Company as Assistant Treasurer, International, in 1994. Prior to that, he served as Vice President, Corporate Banking for Continental Bank N.A. He holds a degree in mining engineering from the University of Arizona and an M.B.A. from the University of Notre Dame.

Don W. Gentry, Director. Dr. Gentry holds a Ph.D. in Mining Engineering. He has worked for several major companies as a mining engineer, including Anaconda Copper Company, Kennecott Copper Corporation, and NL Industries, and has served on the Board of Directors of several companies, including Santa Fe Pacific Gold Corporation, Newmont Mining Corporation, and Polymet Mining Corporation, where he also served as President & CEO. Dr. Gentry is an Emeritus Professor at the Colorado School of Mines where he served on the faculty in Mining Engineering for 26 years. Dr. Gentry also currently serves on the Board of Gryphon Gold Corporation. Dr. Gentry has served on numerous advisory boards and councils to various branches of the U.S. federal government, including the Executive Office of the President, on considering and formulating government policies as they relate to mineral resources and their development in the United States. Dr. Gentry is a past-President of the Society for Mining, Metallurgy, and Exploration (SME) and a member of the National Academy of Engineering.

Mr. Krol is an independent consultant with 40 years of diversified experience in the mining industry, including more than 20 years of diamond exploration with De Beers, Anaconda and Dow Chemicals, followed by 15 years in the gold mining industry for Newmont Mining Corporation. Mr. Krol has been responsible for exploration projects in Tanzania, Uganda, South Africa, Botswana, Angola and Guinea in Africa, Peru, Chile, Ecuador, Brazil, Guyana, and Paraguay in South America, Mexico, Canada and USA in North America, Indonesia in Asia and Kazakstan, Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan in Central Asia. In addition to exploration, 4 years were spent with Newmont operations in Nevada with positions in investor and public relations, metallurgical services including assay- and metallurgical laboratories and carbon handling and refinery. The last 9 years with Newmont Mr. Krol was responsible for all international exploration initially as director and between 1994 and 2001 as Vice President. Since his retirement from Newmont Mr. Krol joined the Board of Directors of Romarco Minerals, Inc and Brazauro Resources

Starting his career as a chartered accountant, Sean specialised in understanding the financial implication of sustainability and incorporating sustainability considerations into business strategy and corporate reporting. Sean was formerly the leader of Deloitte's Sustainability Services Group in Australia, spending three years in that role and had 11 years Chartered Accounting experience at Deloitte in total. Sean is currently managing a number of projects for Newmont Mining Corporation in Adelaide, including the implementation of an Environment and Social Responsibility reporting system, an Integrated (Environment, Safety and Community) Management System and the 2006 public sustainability reporting process.

Extensive experience in molybdenum and molybdenum by-products development and operations at AMAX (Climax), Southern Peru Copper Corp. (Cuajone), US Borax (Quartz Hill) and Cyprus Minerals (Thompson Creek, Sierrita). Mining Executive with 35 years of mining company officer, director, manager, mine development and operator experience. Mr. Stine graduated from the Colorado School of Mines in Metallurgical Engineering and holds Professional Engineer status in Colorado and Minnesota. Experience with Mo, Cu, Au, Ag, PGMs, U and base metals in open pit and underground operations in USA, Canada, Mexico, Latin America, South America, Europe, Africa and Asia. Mr. Stine was VP Corporate Development for Tournigan Gold Corp. in Slovakia last year.

Vincent Calarco is the former Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer of Crompton Corporation. He is Director of the Consolidated Edison and CPG International Inc. Mr. Calarco is Newmont's independent Chairman of the Board.

John Prescott is Chairman of Australian Submarine Corporation Pty Ltd. He is the retired Managing Director of The Broken Hill Proprietary Company Limited, where he served as Chief Executive Officer from 1991 until March 1998. He was a Director of Normandy Mining Limited from April 1999 until March 2002.

Joseph A. Carrabba is the Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer of Cleveland-Cliffs Inc. Prior to joining Cleveland-Cliffs in 2005, Mr. Carrabba held various senior operating positions with Rio Tinto PLC, including President and Chief Operating Officer of Diavik Diamond Mines.

Michael Hamson is Chairman of Hamson Consultants Pty Ltd. He is the retired Joint Chairman of McIntosh Hamson Hoare Govett Limited (now Merrill Lynch Australia), and served as the firm's Chief Executive from 1972 to 1986. He was a Director of Normandy Mining Limited from 1986 to February 2002, and is currently a member of the Board of Directors of Genesis Emerging Markets Ltd.

Bob Miller is a principal with Dutko Worldwide and operates its Las Vegas Office. He has been affiliated with Dutko since 2001 as a Partner in Kaufman Pattee Branstad & Miller. Mr. Miller is also a Partner in Miller and Behar Strategies, Sofia Bulgaria. He is an Honorary Consul Officer for the Republic of Bulgaria performing primarily commercial, trade and tourism promotion functions for furthering the development of the economical, cultural and scientific relations between Bulgaria and the USA. Mr. Miller was formerly a partner in the Las Vegas law firm of Jones Vargas where he practiced legislation and government relations, as well as international business law, resort hotel development law and gaming law. He is the former Governor of the State of Nevada (1989 to 1999) during which he served as the Chair (1996 to 1997) and Vice Chair (1995 to 1996) of the National Governors Association and on various committees including Chair for the Center for Best Practices (1997); Co-Chair of ACHIEVE NGA's Public/Private partnership to improve American Education (1997); Co-Lead Governor on Crime Issues(1993 to 1995); Lead Governor on Natural Resources (1993 to 1994); Chair of Legal Affairs Committee (1992 to 1994); and Chair on the Committee on Justice and Public Safety (1990 to 1992). Mr. Miller also served as Chair of the Western Governors Association (1993 to 1994). He was appointed by President Bill Clinton to the Advisory Commission on Intergovernmental Relations (1993 to 1998). Mr. Miller is distinguished as the longest serving Governor in Nevada history. He has held several public offices including Lieutenant Governor and District Attorney for Clark County. During his tenure as District Attorney he served as the President of the National District Attorney Association (1984) and was one of nine individuals President Reagan selected to serve on a Presidential Task Force on victims of crime (1982). Miller is a member of various Boards of Directors including International Game Technology, Newmont Mining Corporation, Wynn Resorts and Zenith National Insurance Corp. He is the elected Secretary for the International Association of Gaming Attorneys for the 2007 fiscal year. A Las Vegas resident for nearly 50 years, Mr. Miller received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science at the University of Santa Clara and his juris doctorate from Loyola Law School in Los Angeles. He is a member of the Clark County Bar Association and the State Bar of Nevada.

Veronica Hagen is Chief Executive Officer and a member of the board of directors of Polymer Group, Inc. since April 2007. Ms Hagen was President and CEO of Sappi Fine Paper North America from 2004 to 2007. Prior to working for Sappi, she served in various executive roles with Alcoa and Alumax, before its acquisition by Alcoa. She currently serves on the Board of Directors for Jacuzzi Brands, Incorporated.
