Founded in 1890 in Medford, Wisconsin, we started with a small "main street" storefront and have grown into a leading provider of financial services throughout Wisconsin's heartland. Over a century ago, a group of community leaders came together to start a new business-the State Bank of Medford-to serve the people and communities of the greater Medford area. It started with a vision-Ed Winchester saw a need for a bank to help the people of Medford reach their goals and aspirations. Similarly, men of vision, community leaders, came together in Neillsville and Colby and started progressive banks to help their towns as well. These banks were cornerstones of their communities and played a large part in the growth and development of the people, farms, and businesses of the Mid-Wisconsin area. The stockholders of the State Bank of Medford and Security State Bank of Colby wished to continue as a locally-owned, independent organization rather than to become part of a large holding company-owned and controlled by the people in a large metropolitan area. Because they shared the same philosophy, they joined forces to increase and broaden the financial services for their customers by forming and merging into a multi-bank holding company - Mid-Wisconsin Financial Services in 1986.
