Ms. Hamasaki has extensive experience defending and advising clients with regard to all aspects of employment law including discrimination and harassment claims; wrongful termination claims; retaliation and whistleblower claims; defamation claims; claims alleging violation of wage and hour laws including such subjects as alleged misclassification of employees for overtime, meal and rest period violations, and vacation pay violations; compliance with applicable leave of absence laws; workers' compensation discrimination and retaliation; and civil rights violations. Ms. Hamasaki has considerable courtroom experience in both state and federal court and has represented employers in numerous administrative proceedings. She has also successfully represented employers in actions before both the California Labor Commissioner and the California Workers' Compensation Appeals Board and has arbitrated before the Judicial Arbitration and Mediation Services. In addition to litigating employment matters, Ms. Hamasaki routinely advises clients on compliance with California employment laws. She conducts managerial training for employers, assists in reviewing employee classifications for purposes of overtime exemption status, participates in internal investigations, and has prepared numerous employee handbooks and personnel policies. Ms. Hamasaki received her J.D. from the University of Virginia School of Law in 1998, and her Bachelor of Arts degree, magna cum laude, from Bates College in 1995.
