We were frustrated by how hard it was to get things printed. So we did something about it. Mimeo.com's founders were just like most other people who have to work for a living: namely, they were frustrated by their experiences at local copy shops and in-house print centers. So they started thinking of a better way to print complex documents - with tabs, bindings, covers, etc - that were so difficult for so many places to get right. It started with an idea: Why not replace the inconsistent, substandard quality of manual print processes with a more automated, web-based, centralized process that could relentlessly focus on getting things exactly right? Combined with modern, affordable overnight delivery service, all the ingredients were in place for a revolutionary (not to mention more convenient) new way to print. Founded in 1998: Before the first page was printed, a team was put in place to think through a multitude of technological, logistical, financial and business issues. They had to develop new kinds of processes. Write new forms of software. Build an advanced facility. And relentlessly develop and fine-tune things until the system was bulletproof. The first print job: In February of 2000, we printed our first paying job. And by starting with a well thought out service, and continually improving it, Mimeo.com has enjoyed increasing success and an ever-growing base of customers...
