James Ready - Chief Technology Officer and Vice President of Engineering, MontaVista Software Inc. MontaVista CTO Jim Ready is a recognized authority in the embedded systems and real-time software industry, with over 25 years technical and entrepreneurial experience. Co-founder of Ready Systems, he pioneered the development of the first viable commercial RTOS product, the VRTX real-time kernel. Ready Systems, founded in 1980, merged with Microtec Research in 1993, went public in 1994, and was acquired by Mentor Graphics in 1995. During this period Jim served as Ready Systems' President, and as CTO at Microtec/Mentor. Jim founded MontaVista in 1999 to bring the Linux operating system to embedded systems market, and indeed to bring MontaVista embedded expertise to the open source Linux community.

Russell (Rusty) Harris joined MontaVista Software in August 2006 as Executive Vice President of Worldwide Field Operations. Rusty has more than 26 years experience in the technology and IT industries, with responsibilities ranging from all aspects of sales to applications development and operations. He also has over 13 years of experience in sales management and sales in the software industry as well as IT services, resulting in over $5B in contract revenues.

Joe is responsible for sales operations in North America. Joe has over 23 years of experience in the embedded systems industry in a range of sales and marketing management positions. Prior to joining MontaVista, he was the Director of Western Area sales for Integrated Systems through their acquisition by Wind River. He has also been the Vice President of Worldwide sales for the Microtec Division of Mentor Graphics for 2 years and Director of the Americas for 2 years prior to that. He also spent 3 years as North America Sales Director for Wavtek Corporation and 9 years as Director of North America Sales at Applied Microsystems Corporation. Before that he held sales and marketing positions at Data I/O Corporation. Joe has a BA in Economics from the State University of New York at Potsdam and has also completed the AEA Executive Management course at Stanford University.

Scott has a BS in Industrial Management and Information Systems from Carnegie-Mellon University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

Jason speaks nationally and internationally, and is a published author on open source licensing and the GPL. Jason also regularly lectures at law schools on both technology licensing and international business transactions. He is a founder of Open Bar (www.open-bar.org), a not-for-profit organization founded to educate legal professionals in the emerging arena of open source/free software. He is also a contributing columnist to the Enterprise Open Source Journal. Jason was previously a VP and General Counsel for Advanced Data Exchange, an electronic document exchange company, and also practiced law with Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati (WSGR), where he was a member of the Corporate and Securities Group and the Life Sciences Group. At WSGR, Jason focused on technology licensing, financings, and mergers & acquisitions, and was responsible for many public and privately held clients concentrated in the high technology and biotechnology arenas. Jason has a J.D. from the University of California, Davis, where he was an editor of the U.C. Davis Law Review, and has degrees in economics and English from Stanford University.

John F. Shoch, Ph.D., joined Craig Taylor as a venture capitalist in 1985. Prior to this, he was President of the Xerox Office Systems Division. John received a BA (1971) in Political Science, an MS (1977), and a Ph.D. (1979) in Computer Science, all from Stanford. He joined Xerox in 1971 and worked at its Palo Alto Research Center (PARC) where he helped develop the Ethernet, a local area network system. In 1980, he became the assistant to the CEO of Xerox. In 1982, John became President of the Office Systems Division, developing networked office systems derived from Xerox PARC research. He was a director of and founding investor in Conductus and Remedy. He is also a director of several private companies, including Ensenda, Kasenna, Knowledge Networks, and MontaVista Software.

Frank is a Principal in Newbury's Redwood Shores office, focusing on software, Internet, and wireless investments. He has been with the firm since 2004. Frank is a Board observer at NextBio and Sensor Platforms, and helped make the firm's investments in MetaLINCS (acquired by Seagate), Andigilog (acquired by Standard Microsystems), BDNA, and Echovox. Prior to joining Newbury, Frank was a Principal at Panasonic Ventures, the venture capital arm of Matsushita Electric, where he helped drive investments in P-Cube (acquired by Cisco), Premier Retail Networks (acquired by Thomson), Raindance (RNDC), MontaVista Software, and Intacct. While at Panasonic Ventures and Panasonic Internet Incubator, Frank structured numerous revenue-generating partnerships between Panasonic's business units and other technology companies. Prior to Panasonic Ventures, Frank was at Salomon Smith Barney's Technology Investment Banking Group in San Francisco with deal experience in M&A, equity offerings and private placements for software, semiconductor, and networking equipment companies. Previously, Frank was a Financial Analyst in the M&A Group of Salomon Smith Barney in New York. He was also a Summer Associate at Goldman Sachs Investment Banking Division in Hong Kong. Frank holds an A.B. with honors in Applied Mathematics from Harvard and an M.B.A. from the Haas School of Business at the University of California at Berkeley. Frank enjoys architecture, hiking, and jazz. He and his wife currently live in San Mateo.
