He is the past president of the Friends of Libraries U.S.A., the largest non-profit fundraising and programming organization in the nation. He is a past member of the Council of Library and Information Resources for the Text Creation Partners, sponsored by the University of Michigan, New York Public Library, and other prominent academic and public libraries. He is currently serving on a committee for the Association of College and Research Libraries. He has served on the Library Resource Development Board at Eastern Michigan University and is a trustee of the university's Foundation. Dan earned his bachelor's degree from Western Michigan University and his MBA from Eastern Michigan University.
