Mark was appointed to the Broad as Executive Director in January 2007 with responsibility for the company's Gas Distribution operations. He joined National Grid in 1989 from BNFL. He was awarded the OBE in 2002 for his services to the electrical industry in respect of his leadership of the fundamental changes implemented for the introduction of the New Electrical Trading Arrangements (NETA). As COO of the UK gas distribution business for the last three years, he has played a key role in helping to restructure the UK gas distribution market through the gas networks sale and the creation of National Grid's new gas distribution business.

Brian McKendry qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 1974 gaining experience as a professional accountant both in England and North America. During the latter stages of this time he specialised in an oil and gas industry portfolio, joining an Esso joint venture organisation in 1979. Moving from the oil industry he took a head office role with Johnson Matthey plc during its successful positioning as a world leader in advanced materials technology, much of its work being environmentally driven. In 1991, McKendry rejoined the oil industry with a move to the Exploration and Production Division of what was then British Gas. In 1996 he was appointed Finance Director at National Grid Property (then British Gas Properties). He is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales and a member of the Accounting Committee of the British Property Federation.

Gail McLean is responsible for Human Resources at National Grid Property. Gail has 22 years experience in the sector. Her role includes providing recruitment and selection services, training and development programmes, advising on reward and performance management systems and human resources strategies.
Karen Walsh is responsible for the national procurement requirements for the business with an annual spend of approximately 100 m, including major building and remediation works and services. Karen has worked for National Grid Property for 7 years, in procurement as well as in the National Grid Property's external consultancy business National Grid Regeneration. She is a member of the Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply.
Norman Alderson leads the team responsible for the estates management of the National Grid Property portfolio with particular focus on maximising income and minimising costs whilst ensuring that health, safety, security and environmental standards are maintained at the highest level. A fellow of the RICS, he has over 25 years experience in property management, development and valuation. He joined British Gas Northern as Estates manager in 1989 having previously worked in local government, for English Industrial Estates and in private practice.

Stewart Macintyre leads the team responsible for property development, property disposals and town planning activities within National Grid Property. Stewart is a Chartered Surveyor with 20 years experience gained in private practice, local authority and in property development.
Ken Harvey joined the Board following the merger of National Grid Group plc and Lattice Group plc, having been appointed to the Lattice Group plc board in September 2000. He was appointed Senior Independent Director in October 2004. He is Chairman of Pennon Group plc. A Chartered Engineer, Ken is a former Chairman and Chief Executive of Norweb plc, and a former Chairman of Comax Holdings Ltd, The Intercare Group plc and Beaufort International Group plc.

Maria Richter was appointed to the Board in October 2003. Maria worked for Morgan Stanley between 1993 and 2002, most recently as Managing Director of its Corporate Finance Retail Group. Prior to this, she was Managing Director of Investment Banking in the Southern Cone of Latin America, and Executive Director and Head of Independent Power and Structured Finance Business. Previous appointments include Vice President of Independent Power Group for Salomon Brothers, and Vice President of Prudential Capital Corporation and Power Funding Associates. Maria is a Director of Pro Mujer International, an international microfinance organisation, and was, until April 2006, a Director of the Western Electricity Co-ordinating Council.
Dr. Joskow is an economist and President of the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation, a philanthropic institution focused primarily on research and education on issues related to science, technology and economic performance. He is on leave from his position as Professor of Economics and Management, Massachusetts Institute of Technology ("MIT") where he has been on the faculty since 1972. Dr. Joskow was head of the MIT Department of Economics from 1994 to 1998 and the Director of the MIT Center for Energy and Environmental Policy Research from 1999 to 2007. He has worked in the economics field as an educator, researcher and consultant since 1972 and held various positions at Harvard University, Stanford University and Yale University in addition to MIT. Dr. Joskow was a Director of the New England Electric System from 1987 until 2000, a Director of National Grid plc from April 2000 to July 31, 2007, a Director of State Farm Indemnity Company from 1991 to 2002 and became a Director of Exelon Corporation in July 2007. He was the President of the Yale University Council until July 1, 2006 and was on the Board of Directors of the Whitehead Institute of Biological Research until February 2005. He joined the Board of Overseers of the Boston Symphony Orchestra in September 2005 and a Ph.D. in Economics from Yale University and became a trustee of Yale University on July 1, 2008.
Dr. Joskow has a Bachelors of Arts with Distinction in Economics from Cornell University, a Masters of Philosophy in Economics from Yale University.
