On leaving college after successfully completing an intensive secretarial course Elaine joined National Westminster Bank in her native Cheshire. Although employed initially by Nat West as personal assistant to the Branch Manager she moved on to gain all round banking experience including cashiering, foreign exchange, securities and customer relations. After five years in various branches she transferred to the Area Personnel Department of the Bank where she was responsible for recruitment, training and branch staffing. After banking she joined a family clothing business and managed the office and accounting functions. Elaine left full time employment in 1982 for the birth of the first of her three sons. While at home she ventured into teaching giving demonstrations of Microwave Cookery techniques and teaching at night school also gaining her Adult Education Teaching Certificate. She was also involved in marketing and helped arrange and produce colour catalogues illustrating country clothing. After the birth of her third son Elaine joined Turnbull Associates on a part-time basis in 1991.

Brother Corrie graduated from Cornell University in 1953, where he was member of the Beta Chapter. Bob is a retired Deputy Comptroller for National Westminister Bank and recently retired from consulting in financial risk management.
