Dr. Dan Christian, Director of Professional Communications and Executive Director of the Purina Pet Institute specializes in small animal medicine, with special interests in behavior and nutrition. Dr. Christian is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association, the American Animal Hospital Association and the Southern California Veterinary Medical Association. He lectures at various veterinary and veterinary technician schools in the United States and Canada, and is a guest instructor for the Capistrano Valley Veterinary Technical Program in Mission Viejo, California. Dr. Christian also served as past president of the Oklahoma County Veterinary Medical Association. Dr. Christian has earned the American Association of Feline Practitioners Award. He has also appeared as a guest on television and radio pet health programs nationwide, and has authored numerous articles for pet health magazines. Dr. Christian has been instrumental in establishing animal behavior residencies for veterinarians at leading veterinary schools and developing innovative programs with veterinary organizations in the United States. His nutrition expertise includes developing animal nutrition training tools for retail use and presenting nutritional studies on behalf of the Pet Food Institute to veterinarians in Mexico City and Vera Cruz, Mexico. Dr. Christian received both his Bachelor of Science and Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degrees from Oklahoma State University. In his spare time, Dr. Christian enjoys trail running with his rescued Belgian Tervuren dog, Ranger.
