Its products range from kitty kibble to pasta, chocolate, and dairy products. Perrier, Buitoni, Friskies, Maggi, Nescafe, and Nestea are some of its popular brands. It also owns 75% of Alcon Inc. which makes ophthalmic drugs and related products and about 28% of cosmetic giant L'Oreal. Founded in 1867 this $73 billion company is based in Vevey, and employs about 247,000 people. In January 2006, the company achieved full ownership of Dreyer's Grand Ice Cream resuliting in the company becoming the world leader in ice cream.

Paul Bulcke joined the Alcon, Inc. board in May 2008. He is a member of the Board of Directors of Nestlé S.A. and serves as Nestlé's chief executive officer. He was elected to Nestlé's board and appointed to his position on April 10, 2008. Peter Brabeck-Letmathe has been leading the Nestlé Group since 1997, when he was appointed Chief Executive Officer of Nestlé S.A.. In 2001 he also became vice-chairman of the Board. Since April 2005, Peter Brabeck-Letmathe has been Chairman and CEO of Nestlé. Born in 1944 in Austria, Peter Brabeck-Letmathe graduated from the University of World Trade in Vienna with a degree in Economics. After joining the Nestlé Group in 1968, he spent a significant part of his career in Latin America, moving from sales manager and marketing director in Chile, to head of marketing first in Ecuador and then in Venezuela. In 1987 he was transferred to Nestlé's international headquarters in Vevey as senior vice-president in charge of the Culinary Products Division, with a worldwide responsibility for that sector. Appointed executive vice-president in 1992, Peter Brabeck-Letmathe was responsible for the leadership of the strategic business groups Food, Buitoni, Chocolate and Confectionery, Ice Cream, Petcare and Industrial Products. He simultaneously was in charge of Marketing, Communications and Public Affairs. In this role, he devised and implemented Nestlé's brand strategy, consisting of a clear hierarchy of strategic brands on the global, regional and local level. Peter Brabeck-Letmathe serves as a member of the Boards of Directors of Credit Suisse Group and Roche Holding S.A. as well as Vice-Chairman of L'Oréal. In addition, he is a member of the European Round Table of Industrialists (ERT). Finally, he serves as a member of the Foundation Board of the World Economic Forum.

Peter Brabeck-Letmathe has been a member of the Board since 1997 and served as Vice-Chairman from 2000 to 2005 and since 2008. Since 2008 he has also served on the Chairman's and Governance Committee and the Compensation Committee. On both of these committees he has already served in the past, namely from 2003 to 2005 and 2000 to 2005, respectively. His term as a member of the Board expires at the AGM in 2011. The Board has determined him to be independent under the Group’s independence standards. Peter Brabeck-Letmathe studied Economics at the University of World Trade in Vienna. After graduation in 1968, he joined Nestlé’s sales operations in Austria. His career at Nestlé includes a variety of assignments in several European countries as well as in Latin America. Since 1987, he has been based at Nestlé’s headquarters in Vevey. Since 1997, Mr. Brabeck-Letmathe has served as the Chief Executive Officer of Nestlé and as a member of Nestlé’s Board of Directors. In 2005, Mr. Brabeck-Letmathe was appointed Chairman of the Board of Directors of Nestlé. As of April 10, 2008 he has retired from his function as Chief Executive Officer of Nestlé. Mr. Brabeck is a member of the Boards of Directors of L’Oréal SA, Paris (since 1997) and Roche Holding SA, Basel (since 2000). He is also a member of the Foundation Board of the World Economic Forum and a member of the European Round Table of Industrialists.
