Robert J. Phillippy joined us in April 1996 as Vice President and General Manager of our Science and Laboratory Products Division. In August 1999, he was appointed to the position of Vice President and General Manager of the U.S. operations of our Industrial and Scientific Technologies Division (now a part of our Photonics and Precision Technologies Division), and in July 2004, he was appointed as President and Chief Operating Officer. In September 2007, Mr. Phillippy was appointed as President and Chief Executive Officer and as a member of the Board. Prior to joining us, Mr. Phillippy was Vice President of Channel Marketing at Square D Company, an electrical equipment manufacturer, from 1994 to 1996. He joined Square D Company in 1984 as a sales engineer and held various sales and marketing management positions with that company prior to his election as Vice President in 1994.

Charles F. Cargile joined us in October 2000 as Vice President and Chief Financial Officer. In July 2004, he was appointed Senior Vice President, and in February 2005, he was appointed Treasurer. Prior to joining us, Mr. Cargile was Vice President, Finance and Corporate Development for York International Corporation (now a division of Johnson Controls, Inc.), a manufacturer of air conditioning and refrigeration products. He joined York in November 1998, and served in a number of executive positions, including Corporate Controller and Chief Accounting Officer, until his promotion to Vice President, Finance and Corporate Development in February 2000. Prior to joining York, Mr. Cargile was employed by Flowserve Corporation, a manufacturer of highly-engineered pumps, seals and valves primarily for the petroleum and chemical industries, in various positions, most recently as Corporate Controller and Chief Accounting Officer from February 1995 to November 1998.

Jeffrey B. Coyne joined us in June 2001 as Vice President, General Counsel and Corporate Secretary. In July 2004, he was appointed Senior Vice President. Prior to joining us, Mr. Coyne was a partner in the Corporate and Securities Law Department of Stradling Yocca Carlson & Rauth, our outside corporate counsel, from January 2000 to June 2001, and was an associate attorney at such firm from February 1994 to December 1999. From November 1991 to February 1994, Mr. Coyne was an associate attorney at Pillsbury Madison & Sutro (now Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman LLP), an international law firm. Mr. Coyne is a member of the State Bar of California and the Orange County Bar Association.

A popular lecturer and speaker, he has addressed audiences at hundreds of national conferences and educational institutions. As Newport's Senior Vice President and Counsel, Mike is responsible for the development of key strategic alliance relationships, as well as consulting and case design for select clients. Mike also represents Newport at major conferences and key industry events. Before joining Newport, Mike was the President and Chief Operating Officer at the Los Angeles-based executive compensation firm Benefits Group Worldwide. Mike earned his bachelor's degree from Tulane University; his J.D. from the University of Missouri Law School; and his LL.M. in taxation from Washington University.

Prior to joining us, from October 1999 to July 2006, Mr. Allen was employed by Agilent Technologies, Inc., a global provider of measurement and analytical instrumentation, and Avago Technologies, Inc., a company which was formed in December 2005 by the spin off of Agilent’s semiconductor products division. During such time, he held a number of management positions, most recently serving as Vice President and General Manager, Fiber Optics Products Division from April 2004 to July 2006, as Vice President and General Manager, Networking Solutions Business Unit from November 2003 to December 2005, and as Vice President and General Manager, Personal Systems Business Unit from November 2001 to October 2003. Prior to his positions with Agilent and Avago, Mr. Allen held various management positions at Hewlett-Packard Company from December 1984 to October 1999. Gary J. Spiegel joined us in 1991 through our acquisition of Micro-Controle, SA and its subsidiary, Klinger Scientific. He was appointed to the position of Vice President with responsibility for domestic sales in June 1992. During 1997, Mr. Spiegel was assigned additional responsibility for export sales including our sales subsidiaries in Canada and Taiwan. In March 2002, Mr. Spiegel was appointed Vice President, Worldwide Sales and Marketing, expanding his role to include responsibility for all marketing communications and market management. In July 2004, Mr. Spiegel was appointed Vice President, Sales and Service, Photonics and Precision Technologies Division. Jong Limb is the President and founder of Newport Partners, LLC based in Irvine, California. Mr. Limb has been involved with the tax credit industry since 1988, serving as President for one of the largest direct corporate tax credit investment programs in the country. Mr. Limb formed Newport in 1998, sourcing tax credit investments on behalf of institutional investors and providing consulting services for developers of affordable housing projects. Prior to 1988, Mr. Limb worked for San Diego Gas and Electric with responsibilities over pension investments. Mr. Limb has a bachelor degree in Accounting and Economics from New York University and an MBA with an emphasis in Finance from the University of San Diego.

Monique Hastings is Vice President and co-founder of Newport Partners, LLC and is responsible for the investment execution process including due diligence, negotiation, and closing of investment transactions. Previously, she was Director of Property Investment and Asset Management for a national direct tax credit investment program where she managed their east coast office and presided over $200 million of equity closings and oversaw the asset management of over 16,000 units. Prior to 1993, Ms. Hastings was a Property Development Manager for an electric utility land subsidiary. She also spent four years in public accounting. Ms. Hastings has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Administration with an emphasis in Accounting from California State University, Fullerton.

George Caraway joined Newport in October, 1998, as Director of Marketing, George has worked in the food animal biologics industry over 32 years. After earning a BS in Animal Science from Iowa State University, Ames, Iowa, he joined Jensen-Salsbery Laboratories, Kansas City, MO. He served as a field sales representative, division manager, regional sales manager and sales training staff member. In 1986, he joined Oxford Veterinary Laboratories in Worthington, MN as National Sales Manager responsible for outside sales personnel and assisted marketing. After the purchase of Oxford by The Upjohn Company, he joined the Pork Strategic Business Unit as a sales consultant for three years prior to Newport. At Newport Laboratories, George is involved with product pricing, sales promotions, assigning distribution, developing sales literature, printed media advertising, new product acquisition and field sales.

Randall A. Heyler is Senior Director of Strategic Marketing for Newport Corporation, a leading laser and photonics technology firm based in Irvine, CA. Randy has spent over 25 years in the design, manufacture, marketing and business management of laser technologies for applications ranging from construction and manufacturing to scientific research, biotechnology, medicine, and fiber-optic communications. He has served as President of the Lasers and Electro-Optics Manufacturers' Association (LEOMA), was founding Chairman of the Photonics Manufacturers Association, and is currently the Advisory Board Chair for the National Pediatric MS Center based in Stony Brook, N.Y. He received both his BS in Mechanical Engineering and his MS in Engineering Management from Stanford University. Mr. Heyler has been active in the Sage Hill Marketing Committee since 2003 and the Finance Committee since 2006, and has two daughters, Rachel (Class of 2006) and Colleen (Class of 2008). His wife Kelly has also been very active at Sage Hill, serving as both Annual Fundraising Event Chair (2005) and Parent Association President (2006 and 2007).

Bill is a retired policeman living on the Isle of Wight, off the south coast of England. He is Captain of 1st Newport (IW) Boys' Brigade and has been in BB since the age of 11. On retirement he worked with Mercy Ships and whilst in Sierra Leone became involved with BB in Freetown. His experience led him to work with Global Fellowship and he now has a special interest in the West African region. Bill's aim is to encourage the countries within the West African Regional Fellowship to work closer together in order to make the BB self sufficient.

Graduated in 1988 from Newport High School where he was a three-time letter winner as an outfielder. Spent the next two years at Mesa Community College in Arizona, and was named Team Captain of the 1990 club which won the Arizona Community College Championship, the Western Regional Title, and finished third overall at the JUCO World Series. While in college, Brad also spent summers playing for the Fairbanks Goldpanners of the Alaskan League where he was teammates with Jason Giambi. In 1994, at age 23, he was named the Head Coach at Bothell High School, where he led the Cougars to their first State Tournament appearance since 1957. He joined the Newport coaching staff as a varsity assistant in 1997, and along with then first-year head coach Brian Fischer, helped guide the Knights to their first State Championship since 1982. The tandem of Fischer/Files remains in tact, and under their tutelage Newport was again crowned State Champs in 2001. Brad has also served in a similar Assistant's role for the Food Giant / Lakeside Recovery Senior Legion team since 1996. For both squads, Newport and Lakeside Recovery, he works with hitters, outfielders, and infielders. Brad and his wife Shawna have two sons, J.T. and Erik.

Peter Simone has served as a member of our board of directors since March 2006. Simone has been an investment consultant and a consultant to numerous private companies since February 2001. From June 2001 to December 2002, Simone was executive chairman of SpeedFam-IPEC, a semiconductor equipment company which was acquired by Novellus Systems. From February 2000 until February 2001, he served as a director and president of Active Controls Experts. He was president, chief executive officer and director of Xionics Document Technologies, from April 1997 until the company's acquisition by Oak Technology in January 2000. Simone serves on the board of directors of several companies, including Sanmina-SCI Corp., a provider of customized, integrated electronics manufacturing services; Newport Corp., a technology supplier to several industries including microelectronics manufacturing and communications; Veeco Instruments, an equipment developer and supplier to various industries including data storage and semiconductors; and Cymer, Inc., a supplier of excimer light sources. Simone is also a board member of several private technology companies as well as the Massachusetts High Technology Council. In addition, he is president of the board of Walker Home and School for Children. Simone holds a bachelor's degree in accounting from Bentley College and a master's degree in business administration from Babson College.

Robert L. Guyett was elected to the Board in 1990. Since April 1996, Mr. Guyett has been President and Chief Executive Officer of Crescent Management Enterprises, LLC, a financial management and investment advisory services firm. From May 1995 to December 1996, he was a consultant to Engelhard Corporation, an international specialty chemical and precious metals company. Between September 1991 and May 1995, Mr. Guyett served as Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer and a member of the Board of Directors of Engelhard Corporation. From January 1987 to September 1991, he was the Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer and a member of the Board of Directors of Fluor Corporation, an international engineering and construction firm. Mr. Guyett also currently serves as the Treasurer and a director of the Christopher and Dana Reeve Foundation.

Kenneth F. Potashner has, for the past five years, been a private investor, director and advisor for a variety of emerging companies. He currently serves on the boards of directors of Newport Corporation where he is the chairman, Cornerstone Properties, Taxcient, and One Stop Systems. He is an advisor and investor in several other corporations. From 1998 until 2002, Mr. Potashner served as the president, chief executive officer and chairman of SonicBlue, a leader in products for the digital media, entertainment, and consumer electronics markets. From 1996 until 1998, he served as president, chief executive officer and chairman of Maxwell Technologies, where he and his team successfully transitioned the company from a defense focus to a commercial focus, substantially increasing the company's market capitalization. Prior to leading Maxwell Technologies, Mr. Potashner was executive vice president and general manager of Conner Peripherals, where he helped the company become a leading supplier of hard drives. He also held executive management positions at Quantum, DEC (Digital Equipment Corporation), and Texas Instruments. Mr. Potashner earned his bachelor's degree in electrical engineering at Lafayette College and a masters' degree in electrical engineering from Southern Methodist University.
