Daniel Goodrich is a photographer for Newsday since 1979. He was a member of the Newsday reporting team that received the 1997 Pulitzer Prize in Spot News Reporting for coverage of the crash of TWA Flight 800. He was a member of the Newsday staff nominated as finalists for Breaking News Reporting in 2004 for coverage of the summer blackout that struck New York and most of the Northeast. In 1991 he was a member of the photo staff who were nominated finalists for photographs taken after the crash of Avianca Flight 52. The editors of Newsday have twice nominated him for a Pulitzer Prize for his feature photography. In 1988 when Pope John Paul II made his inaugural visit to the United States, Goodrich was selected as the only photojournalist among 20,000 accredited journalists to travel with, and photograph for publication, the Pope during his private moments. In 1996, he was one of only two American photojournalists invited to Rome to join the Vatican press pool and document the second papal visit to the U.S. Goodrich spent a year following DEA agents investigating drug trafficking from poor neighborhoods in Brooklyn to the poppy fields of Peru. He has documented the daily life of average citizens and celebrities. And he has borne witness to personal triumphs, celebrations and tragedies that show the metropolis of New York as a uniquely human place. Goodrich has taught photography and photojournalism at St. John?s University, New York Institute of Technology and at Nassau County Community College in New York. He holds a master's degree in Journalism from the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism.

Justin Davidson, Newsday's classical music critic, won the Pulitzer Prize for criticism in 2002. A native of Rome, Davidson worked as a stringer at the Rome bureau of the Associated Press before coming to the US to attend Harvard as a music major. While in college, he worked as a stringer for the Associated Press Boston bureau, studied classical guitar and began a career as a composer. After spending a year on a music fellowship in Paris, Davidson moved to New York City to pursue a doctoral degree in music composition at Columbia University, where he also was instructor and later adjunct professor of music. His compositions, which have been performed in the US, Italy, China and Eastern Europe, have won him grants and awards from the American Academy/ Institute of Arts and Letters, the Mellon Foundation, Meet the Composer, Columbia University and the Fondation des Etats-unis in Paris. He joined the staff of Newsday in 1996. In 2003, he added a second beat to his brief, becoming the paper's first architecture critic.
