Marvin Romanow is President and CEO of Nexen Inc. He started his career as a drilling engineer for a major independent oil company. His career has spanned many financial and operating roles, including professional and leadership roles in corporate finance, planning, business development, exploration and development, and reservoir engineering.
Marvin has been a Director of the Canexus Income Fund since its inception. Canexus is the third largest North American supplier of bleaching chemicals to the pulp and paper industry. He is a member of the Board and Management Committee of Syncrude Canada, the country’s largest oilsands development. Marvin is also a Director of the Canadian Energy Research Institute, a leading North American energy thinktank. In addition, he has appeared as an expert witness in front of several federal and provincial energy regulatory boards and provided tax policy advice to Canada’s House of Common’s Finance Committee.
In April of 2007 he was awarded Canada’s “CFO of the Year” award and in September of the same year he received the Petroleum Economist award for "Energy Executive of the Year 2006".
Marvin grew up in a small rural community in southeast Saskatchewan. He received his Bachelor of Engineering from the University of Saskatchewan, with great distinction, in 1977 and his MBA from the same University in 1980. Marvin is also a graduate of Harvard’s Program for Management Development and in October of 2007 he completed INSEAD’s Advanced Management Programme. He recently co-chaired a highly successful $30 million capital campaign for the University of Saskatchewan in the Calgary region. Marvin is married with four children. He enjoys golfing, travelling and spending time with his family.

Mr. Reinhart was appointed Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer in November 2008. Prior to this, he held the position Senior Vice President, Corporate Planning and Business Development. Since joining Nexen as Controller in 1994, he has assumed increasing responsibilities and has held various positions, including Director of Risk Management and Treasurer. Prior to Nexen, Mr. Reinhart held senior management positions in a public accounting firm. Mr. Reinhart is a Chartered Accountant and holds a Bachelor of Commerce Degree from Saint Mary's University, Halifax.
Mr. McKenzie was appointed Vice President and Chief Information Officer and an officer of Nexen Inc. in November 2007. He joined the company in 1985 as the Manager Business Systems, a position which he held until his appointment to Vice President, Information Technology in 1992. Prior to Nexen, Mr. McKenzie held senior positions in the information technology industry. Mr. McKenzie graduated from the University of Alberta with a Bachelor of Commerce Degree.

Sylvia is Chief Governance Advisor and Assistant Secretary of Nexen, a Canadian-based senior international oil and gas company listed on the TSX and NYSE. In her 18+ year career at Nexen, she has worked on subsidiary and public company governance for Canada, the US and numerous international jurisdictions. She now manages the Governance Office, overseeing Nexen's governance programs and related public disclosure and securities compliance. Mr. Thomas was appointed Executive Vice President, North America in November 2007. Prior to this, he held the position of Senior Vice President, Canadian Oil and Gas since January 1998.
Since joining the corporation in 1978, Mr. Thomas has held a variety of positions including Business Manager, Specialty Chemicals Division; Division Vice President, Oil & Gas Marketing; and Division Vice President, Corporate Planning.
Mr. Thomas attended both the University of Toronto and York University, graduating in 1974 with a B.A. in Economics/History. He is also a graduate of the Executive Program at the University of Michigan.
Active in industry and community associations, Mr. Thomas is First Vice Chair of the Canadian Chamber of Commerce, President of the Alberta Chamber of Resources and a Governor and Past Chairman of the Canadian Association of Petroleum Producers (CAPP). He also serves as Division Co-Chair for the Calgary United Way Engineering, Energy Services Supply Division and as a Director of Careers: The Next Generation.
He is a past Director of The Nature Conservancy of Canada, The Adult Learning Centre, Ranch Ehrlo Foundation, the Calgary Science Centre, The Canadian Petroleum Hall of Fame Society and the Petroleum Technology Research Centre.
Mr. Thomas is married with two children and resides in Calgary, Alberta.
Mr. Reinsborough was appointed Senior Vice President, US Oil and Gas and an officer of Nexen Inc. in November 2007. He joined Nexen in 1994 and most recently held the position of Vice President, Exploration, Operations and Production for the U.S. Oil and Gas division. Since joining the company, Mr. Reinsborough has progressed through various exploration roles. In 1998, he became the Exploration Manager, Deepwater and in 2002 the Vice President, Exploration. Prior to Nexen, Mr. Reinsborough worked in the oil and gas industry for over eight years in a geological capacity.

Charlie Fischer was born in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan on March 21, 1950. He attended the University of Calgary graduating in 1971 with a B.Sc. in Chemical Engineering and again in 1982 with a Masters Degree in Business Administration, Finance. Upon graduation, Mr. Fischer was employed by Dome Petroleum as a Natural Gas Processing Engineer. In 1972 he joined Hudson's Bay Oil and Gas and worked in several areas including Gas Processing, Production Operations and Corporate Planning. In 1982 he joined Bow Valley Industries as Manager, Corporate Planning and became Vice-President, Planning and Development in 1987. In April of 1988, Mr. Fischer joined TransCanada Pipelines as President of its upstream oil and gas subsidiaries, TCPL Resources Ltd. and Encor Energy Corporation Inc. In May of 1989, TransCanada consolidated all of its upstream assets in a new public entity, Encor Inc., (which was established under a Plan of Arrangement). Mr. Fischer served as President and Chief Executive Officer of Encor Inc. until it was acquired by Talisman Energy Inc. in May of 1993. Mr. Fischer joined Nexen in February of 1994, as Senior Vice President, Exploration and Production, North America. In this capacity, he was responsible for Nexen's conventional oil and gas business in Western Canada and the U.S. Gulf Coast, its oil sands interests in Alberta, and it's Marketing activities and Information Systems activities worldwide. In June of 1997, Mr. Fischer was promoted to Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer and his role was expanded to include Nexen's international oil and gas operations. In 2000 he was appointed to the Nexen Board, and on June 1, 2001 Mr. Fischer was appointed President and Chief Executive Officer.
Doug Otten was appointed Senior Vice President, U.S. Oil and Gas in May 1998 and has served as President of Nexen Petroleum U.S.A. Inc. (our U.S. Oil and Gas operating subsidiary) since 1987. He has been with our U.S. operations since 1977, holding a number of senior positions. Before joining Nexen Inc., Doug spent eight years with Kerr-McGee Corporation and three years with Continental Oil Company in various engineering positions. Doug is a graduate of Texas A&M University and holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Petroleum Engineering. He is a Registered Professional Engineer in the States of Texas and Louisiana. He is currently a director on the Independent Petroleum Association of America (IPAA) Advisory Board, a member of the IPAA Offshore Committee, a board member of NOIA, and a director on the Petroleum Engineering Advisory Board at Texas A&M University. He is a former executive committee member of the Dallas Wildcatters, and a former director on the Dallas Petroleum Club Board.

Dwain M. Lingenfelter, Director. Mr. Lingenfelter is currently Vice President, Government Relations at Nexen Inc. Prior to joining Nexen Inc. as Vice President, Government Relations in 2000, Mr. Lingenfelter had an extensive political career serving the Government of Saskatchewan in numerous capacities from 1978 to 1999, as Minister of Social Services, Opposition House Leader in 1982, Minister of Economic Development in 1991 then Minister responsible for Crown Investments Corporation, a portfolio overseeing the commercial assets of the government including Saskatchewan Power, SaskTel, SaskEnergy, Trans Gas, Saskatchewan Government Insurers, NewGrade Energy Upgrader, from 1996 to 1999. Brendon joined Nexen’s corporate accounting group in 2002 and managed the external financial reporting for Nexen to the U.S. and Canadian regulatory bodies. Prior to joining Nexen he worked in Bermuda managing and coordinating administrative, accounting, corporate secretarial and shareholder services for domestic and off shore investment companies.
Through his external experience and his work with Nexen, Brendon has developed extensive knowledge in the area of Canadian and U.S. GAAP as well as Sarbanes/Oxley requirements.

Eric Newell, 64, is the retired Chancellor of the University of Alberta, a position he held from 2004 to 2008. He is the retired Chair and CEO of Syncrude Canada L td. (Syncrude), positions he held from 1994 and 1989, respectively, until 2004. He served as President of Syncrude from 1989 to 1997. Prior to that, he worked with Imperial Oil Limited and Esso Petroleum Canada Ltd. Mr. Newell holds a Bachelor of Applied Science degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of British Columbia and a Masters of Science in Management Studies from the University of Birmingham, England. Howe Institute, Telus World of Science, The Gairdner Foundation, Junior Achievement of Northern Alberta and The Learning Partnership. Francis Saville, 70, Chair of Nexen, is counsel with Fraser Milner Casgrain LLP, Barristers and Solicitors. He joined the firm in 1965 and had an extensive practice in the areas of energy and environmental law, as well as municipal law and land-use planning. He specialized in representing energy corporations in regulatory applications.
Mr. Saville has Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Laws degrees from the University of Alberta and he was appointed a Queen’s Counsel in 1984. He holds the ICD.D designation (Institute of Corporate Directors and the Haskayne School of Business).

John Willson, 69, is a retired mining executive. He was the President and CEO of Placer Dome Inc. from 1993 to 1999. He was formerly CEO of PwC Consulting; COO of PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP, Global; CEO of PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP, Canada; and Chair and CEO of Price Waterhouse Canada. He worked in Brussels in 1975 to broaden his international experience and from 1975 to 1985 was client service partner for numerous multinationals, specializing in dual Canadian and US-listed companies.
Mr. O’Neill has a Bachelor of Commerce degree from Queen’s University. He was designated a Chartered Accountant in 1970 and made a Fellow (FCA) of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Ontario in 1988. He has an Honorary Doctorate of Law from Queen’s University.

The Honourable A. Anne McLellan is a former Deputy Prime Minister of Canada and has held several senior cabinet positions, including federal Minister of Natural Resources, Minister of Health, Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada, and federal interlocutor of Métis and non-status Indians. Prior to entering politics in 1993, Ms. McLellan was a law professor and administrator at the University of Alberta. Since leaving politics, she has been appointed distinguished scholar in residence at the University of Alberta in the Institute for United States Policy Studies and counsel in the national law firm of Bennett Jones, LLP. Ms. McLellan holds a Bachelor of Arts degree and a Law degree from Dalhousie University, and a Master of Laws degree from King's College, University of London. In 2007, Ms. McLellan completed the Directors' Education Program through the Corporate Governance College. Biography
Dave Hentschel, 74, is the retired Chair and CEO of Occidental Oil and Gas Corporation, the worldwide oil and gas subsidiary of Occidental Petroleum Corporation. He was also President and CEO of Nexen from January 1, 1996 until June 1, 1997.
Dave received a Bachelor of Science degree in Petroleum Engineering from Louisiana State University and a Bachelor of Science equivalent in Meteorology from Oklahoma State University.
Dave is a director of Cimarex Energy Co. He is also a member of the board for the Luis Palau Evangelistic Association and the Tulsa Day Center for the Homeless.
Based on our retirement policy, Mr. Hentschel will not stand for election in 2009.
Dave currently resides in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Dennis Flanagan, 69, is a retired oil and gas executive. He worked in the oil and gas industry for more than 40 years with Ranger Oil Limited (Ranger) and ELAN Energy Inc. (ELAN), most recently as Executive Chair of ELAN until it was bought by Ranger in 1997. He was involved in all phases of exploration and development in Canada, the US and the UK North Sea.
Mr. Flanagan completed the Registered Industrial and Cost Accountant program, the predecessor to the Certified Management Accountant program, in 1967. He worked in various accounting and management positions at Ranger, including as the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) and Executive Vice President (EVP).
Dennis is Chair of Canexus Income Fund, an affiliate controlled by Nexen, and a director of NAL Oil & Gas Trust. He is also founding Chair of STARS (Shock Trauma Air Rescue) Foundation.

Robert Bertram, 64, is a retired pension investment executive. He was the Executive Vice President of Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan Board (Teachers) from 1990 to December 2008. He led Teachers investment program and had oversight of the pension fund’s growth to $108.5 billion from $19 billion when it was established in 1990. Prior to that, he spent 18 years at Telus Corporation, formerly Alberta Government Telephones. Before leaving Telus, he was Assistant Vice President and Treasurer.

William B. Berry was elected to the Board of Directors in February 2008. He began his career with Phillips Petroleum Company in 1976 in Houston, and served the company in El Dorado, Arkansas; London, England; Odessa, Texas; Abidjan, Ivory Coast; and Stavanger, Norway. In 1981 he transferred to Houston as Manager, Partner Operations. In 1984 he was moved to Corporate headquarters in Bartlesville, Oklahoma, as Planning Manger for E&P. In 1986 he was relocated to Odessa, Texas as the Operations manager responsible for E&P and Gas Gathering and Processing for Phillips’ Permian Basin operations. He was named manager, corporate planning in 1989, and then became Country manager for international exploration and production in China in 1992. Berry was recognized by the government of China as one of the 31 outstanding foreign experts in 1996. He became vice president of international exploration and production, new ventures, in 1997 and vice president of exploration and production, Eurasia, in 1998. In 2001, he was elected senior vice president of exploration and production, Eurasia-Middle East, a position he held until the ConocoPhillips merger in August 2002. Following the merger, he served as president, Asia Pacific, until year end 2002, when he was named executive vice president, exploration and production. He retired December 31, 2007. He served on the board of the Beijing International School from 1996 to 1997, and he currently serves on the Dean’s Advisory Council and the Foundation Board of Directors at Mississippi State University, and the advisory Board of Teach For America in Houston, and is the past Chairman of the Board of Trustees for Spindletop International, a Houston based Petroleum Industry Philanthropic organization. Berry also served on the Asia Society Texas Board. Mr. Berry is a native of Mississippi, and graduated in 1974 from Mississippi State University with a bachelor's degree in petroleum engineering. In 1976, he received his master’s degree in petroleum engineering.
