It's not just drugs at Novartis. Novartis AG (NYSE: NVS (ADR) Swiss) was created in 1996 through the merger of Ciba-Geigy and Sandoz and is headquartered in Basel, Switzerland. The company makes drugs and consumer healthcare products. Its drugs work on a wide array of ailments and conditions. Besides pharmaceuticals, it makes Ex-Lax, Maalox, Theraflu, Gerber, contact lenses, and pest control products for animals. The company has annual revenue of about $32 billion and employs about 91,000 people. In February 2006 the company completed the divestment of its Nutrition & Sant? business unit with funds managed by ABN AMRO Capital France.

Ann Bailey was named Head of Corporate Communications in April 2005. Paul Herrling is Head of Corporate Research at Novartis, a position he assumed in November 2002. In 1985, he became Head of the Sandoz Research Institute in Bern and Head of the Preclinical CNS Research Department at Sandoz Pharma in Basel.
