President and CEO
Ryuji Yamada assumed the posts of NTT DOCOMO INC. President and CEO in June
2008 after an accomplished 35-year career with both NTT DOCOMO and its parent
company, Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Corporation (NTT).
Since joining NTT DOCOMO as a Senior Executive Vice President, a Member of the
Board of Directors and Managing Director of the Corporate Marketing Division in June
2007, Mr. Yamada has contributed greatly to the growth and advancement of the mobile
market for corporate customers.
From June 2004, prior to joining NTT DOCOMO, he was a Senior Executive Vice
President for NTT, where he oversaw its world-class research center and exercised
decisive leadership in developing the company’s Next Generation Network (NGN).
From July 1999 to June 2004 he held various top managerial positions at Nippon
Telegraph and Telephone West Corporation (NTT West), a regional fixedtelecommunications
carrier in western Japan, where he played a key role in making the
company profitable just three years after NTT’s reorganization in 1999.
In 1994 Mr. Yamada took the lead in drawing up NTT’s “Basic Concept and Current
Activities for the Coming Multimedia Age,” the strategic plan for the company’s
transition from voice services to a wide range of advanced IP services for the Internet
age, which continues to underpin the NTT group’s long-term vision. Over the years he
was also a central figure in planning NTT’s 1.7-trillion-yen network of nationwide
facilities.
Mr. Yamada started his career at NTT Public Corporation in April 1973 as a network
engineer after graduating from Osaka University’s Graduate School of Engineering with
a master’s degree in telecommunication engineering.
Known for his athletic ability, he enjoys golf, tennis and skiing in his free time. He was
born on May 5, 1948.

Hiroshi Matsui was named Senior Executive Vice President responsible for CSR and

Mr. Matsui spent most of his career with the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunication
(MPT), which was folded into the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communication (MIC)
in 2001. At the MIC and MPT, he held a number of important posts, including
Director-General of the Postal Services Agency from 2002. He retired from MIC as
Vice-Minister for Policy Coordination in 2005.
Mr. Matsui entered the MPT in 1969 after graduating from the University of Tokyo with a
bachelor’s degree in law. He was born on August 6, 1946.

Kaoru Kato was named an Executive Vice President, a Member of the Board of

Yoshiyuki Takeda is Senior Vice President of NTT DOCOMO, Inc. and Deputy Managing Director of its R&D Center. Mr. Takeda is primarily engaged in areas including the standardization of facsimile, the development of a satellite broadcasting system, R&D policy in the ICT field, the digitalization of broadcasting, and u-Japan policy. Masao Nakamura
Corporate Advisor and Member of Board of Directors
Masao Nakamura became a Corporate Advisor and retained his position as a Member of
the Board of Directors of NTT DOCOMO in June 2008, after serving as President and
CEO since June 2004.
In his four years at the helm, highlighting a distinguished 35-year career with both NTT
DOCOMO and Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Corporation (NTT), Mr. Nakamura
significantly strengthened the company in a fast-changing market. He was responsible
for establishing mobile phones as indispensable tools for everyday life through the
introduction of innovative new services, including “Osaifu-Keitai” mobile wallet
services. In addition, he led the company’s rebranding initiatives as the Managing
Director of the Corporate Branding Division from August 2007.
From June 2002 until June 2004 he served as Senior Executive Vice President and
Managing Director of the Marketing Division, after serving as an Executive Vice
President and Managing Director of the Mobile Multimedia Division from June 2001.
Mr. Nakamura became an Executive Vice President in 1999. He entered NTT
DOCOMO in 1998 as a Member of the Board of Directors and Managing Director of
the Accounts and Finance Department, holding the latter position until 2001.
Before joining NTT DOCOMO he held several important posts at NTT Corporation,
including Managing Director of Industrial Relations. He began his career at Nippon
Telegraph and Telephone Public Corporation in July 1969.
Mr. Nakamura graduated from the University of Tokyo with a bachelor's degree in law
in 1969. He was born on November 11, 1944 and grew up in Tokyo.

Nobuharu Ono is currently the President & CEO of NTT DoCoMo USA, Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary established in November 1999 of Japan s NTT DoCoMo Inc. After graduating from Nagoya University with a bachelor degree in Engineering in 1968, Mr. Ono began his career at NTT (Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Corporation), the largest telecommunication carrier in Japan. He held a variety of executive positions relating to the field of transmission during his early years at NTT. In 1989, he became Senior Vice President of NTT America responsible for the operation of the Pacific and Western Divisions. In 1994, he served as Executive Manager of the Multimedia Business Department in charge of strategic business planning. He was promoted to Vice President, Executive Manager of the Multimedia Business Department in 1995. He was elected to NTT s Board of Directors in June 1998 and transferred to NTT-East in 1999 in accordance with NTT s reorganization. In July 2000, Mr. Ono moved to NTT DoCoMo, Inc., the mobile arm of NTT, which was spun off from its parent company in 1992. At that time, acting as both a Senior Vice President and Board member, he headed the Mobile Multimedia Division, which promotes multimedia communication and services through DoCoMo s wireless network. In July 2001, Mr. Ono became President & CEO of NTT DoCoMo USA, Inc., and at the same time was appointed to the Board of Directors of AT&T Wireless, a strategic U.S. partner for NTT DoCoMo. He continues as a Board member at NTT DoCoMo (Japan), and acts as Deputy Head of its Global Business Division.
