Chairman and Chief Executive Officer
Sam Duncan began his career in 1969 at a Southern California Albertson’s store as a courtesy clerk and was promoted to various store management, district management and merchandising positions, eventually being named Albertson’s director of operations in 1991. He joined Fred Meyer, a major food and general merchandise retailer, in 1992 as vice president of the grocery department, and was promoted through the executive merchandising ranks. Mr. Duncan was named executive vice president of Fred Meyer’s food division in 1997, and in 1998, when Fred Meyer acquired Ralph’s Super Markets, Mr. Duncan was named president of the Ralph’s division. In 1999, Kroger acquired Fred Meyer (1998 sales: $15 billion). Mr. Duncan was appointed president of Fred Meyer in 2001.
Most recently, Mr. Duncan served as president and chief executive officer of Shopko Stores, Inc., a $3.2 billion (2004 sales) general merchandise retailer headquartered in Green Bay, Wisconsin, which he joined in 2002. Shopko’s retail operations include more than 360 stores in the Midwest, Mountain and Pacific Northwest regions of the U.S. Shopko announced on April 8, 2005 that it agreed to be purchased by the private equity firm of Goldner Hawn Johnson & Morrison.
Mr. Duncan joined OfficeMax in 2005 as president and chief executive officer. Later that year he was unanimously elected chairman by the company's board of directors.

Carolynn Brooks currently serves as Chief Diversity Officer for OfficeMax. In this role she has responsibility for Workforce Diversity, Supplier Diversity, EEO/AAP and Community Affairs. She was promoted to this position in 2008. Ms. Brooks joined OfficeMax in 2001 and led the human resource activities for the company’s headquarters through the Boise Cascade Corporation and OfficeMax merger and headquarters consolidationin 2003. In October, 2006 OfficeMax created the Office of Diversity and named Ms. Brooks vice president, diversity and inclusion. Ms. Brooks also co-chairs the OfficeMax Diversity Council that was established in early 2006 to accelerate collaboration and program execution.
Ms. Brooks began her career in the telecommunication industry with AT&T and MCI Telecommunications in sales, moving into sales development/training and eventually into human resources. Ms. Brooks has more than 15 years experience in human resources.
Ms. Brooks attended Howard University in Washington, DC. and has earned certificates of accomplishment in Compensation Systems, HR Consulting, and Human Resource Management. She is currently a member of the DuPage County Workforce Board and the national Diversity Best Practices Leadership Council.

Randy G. Burdick joined OfficeMax in March of 2005 as executive vice president and chief information officer, and is responsible for OfficeMax’s overall information technology strategy and the development and implementation of programs in support of that strategy.
Prior to joining OfficeMax, Mr. Burdick was the group information officer and vice president of supply chain operations with Hewlett-Packard Company’s Compaq division. Mr. Burdick also held management positions with Advanced Micro Devices and Harris Semiconductor.
Mr. Burdick holds a B.S. in computer engineering and a Master of Science degree in computer science from the University of South Florida.

Ryan Vero
Executive Vice President and Chief Merchandising Officer
Ryan Vero joined OfficeMax in 1994 and has held numerous positions within the company. While Mr. Vero was executive vice president of e-Commerce/Direct, he was instrumental in the 1995 launch of OfficeMax's award-winning e-Commerce site, OfficeMax.com. Mr. Vero also served as divisional vice president of OfficeMax Online.
Mr. Vero became executive vice president of merchandising and marketing of OfficeMax in October 2001. He also has been involved in a variety of merchandising and marketing areas including advertising, promotions and visual planning. In addition, Mr. Vero was responsible for OfficeMax's product buying groups, which included the management of OfficeMax's 18 merchandise categories.
When Boise Cascade Corporation acquired OfficeMax in 2003, Mr. Vero served as executive vice president of merchandising. Then in 2005, Mr. Vero was promoted to executive vice president and chief merchandising officer.
Mr. Vero received his M.B.A. from Case Western Reserve University's Weatherhead School of Management.

Sam Martin joined OfficeMax in 2007 as executive vice president and chief operating officer for the company. In this role, Mr. Martin has responsibility for all areas of OfficeMax Retail, Contract and Supply Chain departments.
Prior to joining OfficeMax, Mr. Martin served as senior vice president of operations for Wild Oats Markets, Inc. from January 2006 through September 2007 at which time Wild Oats was acquired by Whole Foods. Prior to joining Wild Oats, Mr. Martin served as senior vice president of supply chain for ShopKo Stores Inc. from April 2005 through December 2005 and vice president of distribution and transportation from April 2003 to April 2005. From 1998 until 2003, he was regional vice president, western region, and general manager for Toys R Us, responsible for operations including stores, distribution, and logistics.

Jim Durkin joined OfficeMax in 2006 and currently serves as the Executive Vice President for North America Sales. Most recently Jim was the Senior Vice President for Field Sales for OfficeMax with responsibility for sales activities in the US.
Prior to joining the company he served as Vice President of Sales for ARAMARK Uniform and Career Apparel from 2003 to 2006.
Jim began his career in 1989 with Boise Office Solutions in a sales representative role and worked for 14 years in a variety of sales and sales leadership positions, including National Accounts Manager, District Sales Manager and General Manager. He led teams in multiple markets including Philadelphia, Chicago, Boston and New York.
Jim holds a BS in Business Administration from LaSalle University in Philadelphia, PA.

Matt Broad joined Boise Cascade Corporation in 1984 as counsel in the legal department. In 1989, he was promoted to associate general counsel responsible for the office products distribution division.In 1989, Mr. Broad was appointed corporate secretary of Boise Cascade Office Products Corporation. Mr. Broad transitioned into OfficeMax when it was acquired by Boise in 2003, and now serves as executive vice president, general counsel.
Mr. Broad received a B.A. in business economics in 1981 from the University of California, Santa Barbara, and a J.D. from Hastings College of Law in 1984.

Reuben E. Slone

Reuben Slone joined OfficeMax in November 2004 as executive vice president, supply chain. He is responsible for inventory management, supply chain operations, real estate, store development, and indirect procurement for the company. Slone was most recently vice president, global supply chain for Whirlpool Corporation where he led the transformation of Whirlpool’s supply chain over the past four years. Prior to joining Whirlpool, Slone held various executive positions with General Motors in global supply chain, ebusiness, product development, manufacturing, and information technology. Before joining General Motors, Slone led global strategy, distribution, and information technology for Federal-Mogul.Prior to joining Federal-Mogul, Slone spent almost ten years in management consulting with Ernst & Young and EDS/AT Kearny.
Slone received a B.S. in engineering from the University of Michigan in 1984 where he graduated cum laude. In 1985 he received a Graduate Fellowship in Mechanical Engineering.
Slone has been widely recognized for his achievements in both supply chain and ebusiness. Harvard Business Review published two of his articles: Are You the Weakest Link in your Supply Chain" in September 2007; and Leading a Supply Chain Turnaround in October 2004.Business Week, Computer World, and Internet Week all recognized Slone’s efforts in supply chain, the use of the internet, and novel uses of information technology.

Brian Cornell serves as president and CEO of Sam’s Club, a division of Wal-Mart Stores, Inc., where he also is an executive vice president of the company.
Cornell brings a wealth of talent to Sam’s Club, the company’s members-only warehouse operating segment that serves the needs of individual and small business members.
Prior to joining the company, Cornell worked for Michaels Stores, Inc., where he held the position of CEO for the largest specialty retailer of arts and crafts for the hobbyist and do-it-yourself home decorator in North America. Prior to that, Brian was executive vice president and chief marketing officer for Safeway, where he was responsible for the company’s marketing, merchandising and distribution operations, as well as its online home delivery business. Brian has also held senior management positions at PepsiCo, including president of Pepsi-Cola North America’s Food Services Division and president of Tropicana International.
Sam’s Club celebrated its 25th anniversary last year and today serves more than 47 million U.S. members. Additional Sam's Club locations are in Brazil, China, Mexico and Puerto Rico. Sam’s Club has solidified a position in the warehouse club market as a price leader and is relentlessly focused on serving members' needs, delivering value through merchandise quality and enhancing the member shopping experience. Sam’s Club ended last fiscal year with $46.8 billion in sales, a 5.6 percent increase in revenue over the prior year. As of year end, there were 602 Sam’s Clubs operating in the United States. Sam’s plans to add between 15 and 20 clubs during the current fiscal year.
Cornell has served on the Board of Directors for Home Depot since 2007. He also served on the Board of Directors for Office Max from 2004 – 2007 and Kirin-Tropicana Inc from 1996 – 2001 and was a member of the Board of Trustees for the Culinary Institute of America.
Cornell earned a bachelor’s degree at the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA) and attended its Anderson Graduate School of Management. He and his wife Martha reside in Bentonville, Ark.

Mr. Hagenlocker joined Ford Motor Company as a research scientist in 1964.
