Oki Semiconductor is a division of Oki America, Inc., a subsidiary of Oki Electric Industry Co., Ltd. Oki Electric Industry Co., Inc., is traded on the Tokyo and Osaka stock exchanges. Based in Tokyo, Oki Electric Co., Ltd. was founded in 1881 by Mr. Kibataro Oki. Through its parent company, Oki Semiconductor has a rich history in communications and early telephony. For example, Oki was one of the first companies to license Alexander Graham Bell's telephone patent. A century later, in 1984, Oki Telecom, Inc., was the first to make a cellular phone in the United States.
