Onex has more than one hand in business. Established in 1980 and located in Toronto, Canada, Onex Corporation (Toronto: OCX) operates companies in multiple industries. Its portfolio includes electronics manufacturing, theatre exhibition, customer service management, aerostructures, automotive products, and healthcare. The company had 2005 revenue of $20 billion and employs 136,000 people. It acquired five businesses in 2005: the $1.5 billion purchase of The Boeing Company's commercial aerostructures manufacturing operations. The company, renamed Spirit AeroSystems, is the world's largest independent supplier of structures for commercial aircraft; Center for Diagnostic Imaging, a leading provider of diagnostic and therapeutic radiology services in the United State, in a transaction valued at $225 million; Emergency Medical Services Corporation, the parent company of American Medical Response, the leading provider of ambulance transportation services, and EmCare, a leader in outsourced services for hospital emergency department physician staffing and management in a transaction valued at over $1 billion; Skilled Healthcare Group, an organization of acute care nursing and assisted living facilities in the United States, in a transaction valued at $745 million, and the 80-theatre Famous Players theater circuit in a $473 million transaction.

Gerald W. Schwartz is the Chairman of the Board, President and Chief Executive Officer of Onex. Mr. Schwartz has been a director of Celestica since 1998. Prior to founding Onex in 1983, Mr. Schwartz was a co-founder and President (in 1977) of what is now CanWest Global Communications Corp. Mr. Schwartz was inducted into the Canadian Business Hall of Fame in 2004 and was appointed as an Officer of the Order of Canada in 2006. He is also an honorary director of the Bank of Nova Scotia and is a director of Indigo Books & Music Inc., a public corporation. Mr. Schwartz is Vice Chairman of Mount Sinai Hospital and is a director, governor or trustee of a number of other organizations, including Junior Achievement of Toronto, the Canadian Council of Christians and Jews, and The Simon Wiesenthal Center.
