Dr. McDonough is associate director of the Saint Francis Hospital Family Practice Residency Program in Wilmington, Del., and clinical professor of family medicine and community health at the Temple University School of Medicine in Philadelphia. He maintains an active practice. Dr. McDonough has been medical editor for Fox television in Philadelphia since 1989, and his radio reports are syndicated on more than 750 radio stations. Dr. Dwyer is director of the Frances Stern Nutrition Center at Tufts-New England Medical Center Hospitals in Boston. She is a professor of medicine (nutrition) and community health at the Tufts University Schools of Medicine and Nutrition, and the senior scientist at the Jean Mayer USDA Human Nutrition Research Center on Aging at Tufts. She is an adjunct professor at the Harvard School of Public Health. She served in 2001-2002 as assistant administrator for human nutrition in the Agricultural Research Service of the U.S. Department of Agriculture, and in 2000 on the Dietary Guidelines for Americans Committee. She is a member of the Institute of Medicine, National Academy of Sciences, and served for more than 10 years on the Food and Nutrition board. One of the nation's most respected nutritionists, she is the author or co-author of more than 180 research and 280 review articles published in scientific journals. Dr. Dwyer's resume includes numerous other professional groups, honors and awards. A registered dietitian, she received the American Dietetic Association's Medallion Award in 2002. She is a past president of the Society for Nutrition Education and the American Institute of Nutrition (now the American Society for Nutrition).
Dr. Gonnella is dean emeritus and distinguished professor of medicine at the Jefferson Medical College of Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia. He is the founder and director of the college's Center for Research in Medical Education and Health Care. Dr. Gonnella has been awarded the Commendatore dell'Ordine della Stella della Solidarieta Italiana and the Grande Ufficiale by the president of Italy; the Dongbaeg Medal by the president of Korea; the Presidential Medal by Dartmouth College; and the Presidential Citation by Thomas Jefferson University. He has received honorary doctor of medicine degrees from the University of Chieti, Italy, SoonChunHyang University in Seoul, Korea, and Widener University in Philadelphia. Dr. Gonnella was elected to fellowship of the Royal College of Physicians in Edinburgh in 2001. His research has focused on the relationships between knowledge, capabilities, and clinical performance.

Dr. Hammersmith joined Corneal Associates in September of 2003 after finishing a year of corneal fellowship here. Dr. Hammersmith says, "I found that I enjoy anterior segment surgery, especially the opportunity to consistently and dramatically make a positive impact on patients' lives. The specialty also allows for the development of long-term relationships with patients, the best part of medicine." She is excited to be here at Wills as an active part of the teaching program. She is the director of the Wills Eye Institute Cornea Fellowship Program and teaches the residents in the Wills Eye Institute Residency Program. Her research interests include the study of severe ocular surface diseases such as dry eye, blepharitis, ocular cicatricial pemphigoid, and recurrent erosions. She is one of a few doctors nationwide involved in treating severe ocular surface disease with the artificial cornea transplant, Boston K-Pro. In addition, she has a special interest in corneal disease in children. Dr. Hammersmith is married and lives in Center City Philadelphia. Her husband, Doug, works for the Campbell's Soup Company.

A clinical content coordinator, writer, and editor, Mr. Bailey has over 12 years of nursing experience within a variety of clinical areas. He served as an Infectious Disease Clinical Nurse Specialist at a major teaching hospital clinic, and as a Senior Clinic Nurse in the Digestive Diseases Division.
