Oil prices rise as traders mull lower gasoline stocks
NEW YORK AFP — Oil prices rose on Wednesday after a sharp spike the previous day as traders nervously mulled a larger-than-expected decline in US gasoline stocks. Prices closed higher in edgy trade, wiping out declines experienced earlier in the day, as traders assessed a weekly US inventory report...
Oil prices fall in Asia after US crude stocks dip
SINGAPORE AFP — World oil prices fell in volatile Asian trade on Thursday after rising earlier following a US government report that showed American crude reserves dipped for the fourth week in a row. New York's main oil futures contract, light sweet crude for July delivery, was 98 cents...
ENERGY 2008: HIGHER PRICES AND VOLATILITY
While the $100 print in crude oil futures at the beginning of the year was apparently the result of a glory seeking pit trader and not legitimate price discovery, there is no magic to that number and oil will most likely breeze past it in 2008. But it won't be...

Oil prices pause after US stock levels rise
LONDON AFP — Oil prices steadied Thursday, finding some support after recent steep falls despite news of the first weekly rise in US crude inventories since November. New York's main contract, light sweet crude for delivery in February, eased three cents to 90.81 dollars per barrel. Brent North...
High oil prices unrelated to OPEC output levels: Badri
PARIS AFP — The Organisation of Petroleum Exporting Countries will not boost output to ease pressure on soaring oil prices, OPEC Secretary General Abdullah al-Badri said Wednesday. Badri said in a statement that "current high oil prices are not in any way related to crude supplies," but were the...
Algerian energy minister rules out OPEC output hike
ALGIERS AFP — Algerian Energy Minister Chakib Khelil on Wednesday ruled out an increase in OPEC crude oil production to curb prices that are hovering around 70 dollars a barrel. "The current spike in oil prices is not a result of insufficient supply," Khelil was quoted by the APS...
Oil prices rebound on IEA warning
LONDON AFP — World crude oil prices rebounded on Tuesday after the International Energy Agency had warned that falling inventories of oil could put upward pressure on prices in coming months. Traders were also looking to a meeting on Thursday of the powerful cartel of OPEC oil producers. ...
