Laurel received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Music Therapy from Montclair State University in New Jersey. She specializes in working with children with developmental disabilities as well as with hospitalized children. She has been the music therapist at Orthopaedic Hospital in Los Angeles for eight years, and has recently expanded her services to include the pediatric inpatients at Santa Monica UCLA Medical Center and Orthopaedic Hospital. Paul Beaule, M.D., FRCSC is an associate of the Joint Replacement Institute at Orthopaedic Hospital in Los Angeles as well as Assistant Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery at the UCLA/Orthopaedic Hospital Institute at Santa Monica/UCLA Medical Center. Dr. Beaule is a graduate of the University of Ottawa Medical School in Ottawa, Canada. Dr. Beaule is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Canada with a specialty in orthopaedic surgery and a Diplomate of the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery. Dr. Beaule is a native of Quebec City and he is fluent in both English and French. Following completion of his orthopaedic residency, Dr. Beaule completed two years of specialized fellowship training in joint replacement and in pelvic and acetabular reconstruction. Through close personal associations and collaboration with researchers both here and in Europe, Dr. Beaule is able to bring innovative surgical techniques into clinical practice once they have been shown to be safe and effective. Dr. Beaule's primary interests are joint replacement of the hip, knee and shoulder as well as conservative solutions for the younger, more active adult. These joint and bone preserving procedures include hip arthroscopy, Bernese periacetabular osteotomy for patients with hip dysplasia and hip resurfacing. He also specializes in the treatment and management of acute injuries to the pelvis and acetabulum as well as management of late complications of these injuries that might involve malunion or hip arthritis with loss of bone stock. Dr. Beaule has authored numerous publications and has lectured widely in the areas of joint replacement and pelvic and acetabular reconstruction. He has a strong interest in basic and clinical research leading to the development of more effective implants and surgical techniques. Dr. Beaule is the Course Director of the biennial symposium entitled Joint and Bone Preserving Surgery of the Hip held in Quebec, Canada.
