Dame Marjorie Scardino, b. 1947 Chief Executive and member of the Board of Directors of Pearson plc. Board member since 2001. Chairman of the Corporate Governance and Nomination Committee. Member of the Personnel Committee. BA (Baylor), JD (University of San Francisco). Chief Executive of The Economist Group 1993-1997, President of the North American Operations of The Economist Group 1985-1993, lawyer 1976-1985 and publisher of The Georgia Gazette newspaper 1978-1985.

Robin Freestone, 50, joined Pearson in 2004 as deputy chief financial officer and became chief financial officer in June 2006. He sits on the Pearson Board and is a member of the Pearson management committee. Robin was group financial controller for Amersham plc (now part of GE) and a member of the Amersham group management committee, having joined Amersham as chief financial officer of their health business in 2000. Prior to that he held a number of senior financial positions in the chemical industry with ICI, Zeneca and latterly, for Henkel UK from 1995-2000. He is an economics graduate from Manchester University and qualified as a chartered accountant with Touche Ross (now part of Deloitte). He is also a non-executive director of eChem Limitted.

Glen Moreno, 65, was appointed chairman of Pearson in October 2005. He is also the senior independent director of Man Group plc and has been a non-executive director there since 1994. He is a director of Fidelity International and chairman of its Audit Committee. From 1987 to 1991 he was chief executive of Fidelity International, one of the world's most successful investment and financial information companies, recruited to lead its international expansion. Before that, he spent 18 years at Citigroup in Europe and Asia. Citigroup, 1969 - 1987 Over an 18-year career, Moreno held senior positions at Citigroup in Europe and Asia. During that period Citigroup became the leading international bank in Europe, developed a significant Australian business and expanded in South East Asia and India. In the early 1980s he moved to London as a member of Citigroup's Policy Committee and as group executive for investment banking, responsible for corporate finance and trading operations. Fidelity International, 1987 - 1991 Moreno was recruited by Fidelity's owner Ned Johnson to lead the company's programme of international expansion. With his successor, Barry Bateman, he launched the company's hallmark global product range, Fidelity Funds. Other roles Since retiring as chief executive of Fidelity International in 1991, Moreno has held a number of roles in large international businesses. He remains a director of Fidelity International, and chairs its Audit Committee. He has been a non-executive director of Man Group plc, the FTSE100 financial services group, since 1994, and is now the senior independent director. There he was involved in the successful demerger of Man's traditional commodities trading businesses to focus on investment management and brokerage. He was a trustee to The Prince of Liechtenstein and Liechtenstein Global Trusts, which combines the family's banking and investment activities. LGT is a successful private banking and wealth management business in Europe, the Middle East and Asia. He retired from this role in April 2008. He is also a governor of The Ditchley Foundation, founded in 1958 to advance Anglo-American links, which has since broadened to involve nations from all over the world. Coimbatore Krishnarao ('CK') Prahalad~ aged 67, is a distinguished university professor of corporate strategy and international business at the University of Michigan Business School. He is a director of NCR, Hindustan Unilever Corporation, World Resources Institute and The Indus Entrepreneurs. He becaem a non-executive director of Pearson in May 2008.

David Arculus became a non-executive director in February 2006 and currently serves on the audit and nomination committees and as chairman of the personnel committee. He is a non-executive director of Telefonica SA, and was previously chairman of O2 plc from 2004 until it was acquired by Telefonica at the beginning of 2006. His previous roles include chairman of Severn Trent plc and IPC Group, chief operating officer of United Business Media plc and group managing director of EMAP plc. David Bell became a director in March 1996. He was appointed Pearson s director for people with responsibility for finding, keeping, rewarding and inspiring our employees across the Pearson Group. He is chairman of the Financial Times and Sadler s Wells Theatre. He is also chairman of Crisis, a charity for the homeless, Roehampton University, The Institute for War and Peace Reporting and the London Transport Museum.

Ken Hydon*^~ aged 64, is a non-executive director of Tesco plc, Reckitt Benckiser Group plc and Royal Berks NHS Foundation Trust. He was previously finance director of Vodafone Group plc and subsidiaries of Racal Electronics. He became a non-executive director of Pearson in February 2006.

Rona Fairhead was appointed chairman of the Interactive Data Board of Directors in September 2007 and has served on the Board since February 2007. She currently serves as a member of the Board's Nominating and Corporate Governance Committee. Ms. Fairhead is chief executive officer of the Financial Times Group where she is responsible for overseeing the Financial Times, Pearson's international business newspapers and financial magazines, as well as its interests in Interactive Data, FTSE, owned jointly with the London Stock Exchange, and The Economist Group. Ms. Fairhead joined Pearson in October 2001 as deputy finance director, became chief financial officer in June 2002 and was appointed chief executive of the Financial Times Group in June 2006. She serves on the Pearson board and is also a member of the Pearson management committee. She was appointed a non-executive director of HSBC Holdings plc in 2004. Before joining Pearson, Ms. Fairhead was executive vice president, strategy and group financial control and a member of the Executive Board at ICI plc, the international specialty chemicals and paints company. Prior to her six years at ICI, she was a senior executive in the aerospace industry, working for Bombardier/Shorts Aerospace and British Aerospace. In her early career she worked for Bain & Co and Morgan Stanley. Ms. Fairhead has a law degree from Cambridge University and an MBA from Harvard Business School.

Susan Fuhrman*~ aged 64, is president of Teachers College at Columbia University, America's oldest and largest graduate school of education. She was previously dean of the Graduate School of Education at the University of Pennsylvania. She is a member of the Board of Trustees of the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching and an officer of the National Academy of Education. She became a non-executive director of Pearson in July 2004.

Terry Burns^~ aged 64, is chairman of Abbey National plc, Alliance & Leicester plc and of Glas Cymru Limited and is a non-executive director of Banco Santander SA. He was previously chairman of Marks and Spencer Group plc. He was the UK government's chief economic adviser from 1980 until 1991 and Permanent Secretary of HM Treasury from 1991 until 1998. He was appointed a non-executive director of Pearson in May 1999 and senior independent director in February 2004.

William T. Ethridge has served as a member of our board of directors since October 2001. Mr. Ethridge is chief executive officer of Pearson Education, North America, a position he has held since March 2008. From March 2003 to March 2008, Mr. Ethridge was president and chief executive officer of Pearson's Higher Education, International, and Professional Publishing Group. Since February 2005, Mr. Ethridge has been a member of the Pearson plc management committee. He also serves on the executive board of the Association of American Publishers and chairman of the board of CourseSmart. From January 1999 to March 2003, Mr. Ethridge was president of Pearson's U.S. Higher Education and Professional Publishing Group. Prior to joining Pearson in November 1998, Mr. Ethridge held several positions at Prentice Hall, including heading the editorial and marketing operations for the college division and serving as president of Prentice Hall's sciences and technical publishing operations. Earlier in his career as an editor and editor-in-chief in the field of economics and finance, he signed and published a number of authors who produced leading texts in the field.
