Piedmont Natural Gas keeps Southerners warmed. Founded in 1949 and headquartered in Charlotte, NC, Piedmont Natural Gas company, Inc. (NYSE: PNY) is a natural gas utility. The company operates in two segments: Regulated Utility and Non-Utility. It has almost 1 million residential, commercial, and industrial customers. It also sells gas appliances to its Tennessee market. It operates in North and South Carolina, and Tennessee. The company has annual revenue of about $1.8 billion and employs about 2,124 people. In May 2006, the company was was honored by the American Gas Association for its outstanding achievements in promoting operations safety. The safety awards are given annually by AGA to those with the lowest employee disability injury and illness rate among companies of their size and type for the previous year.
