Public Storage, Inc. (the "Company" or "we" or "our") is an equity real estate investment trust ("REIT") organized as a corporation under the laws of California on July 10, 1980. We are a fully integrated, self-administered and self-managed REIT that acquires, develops, owns and operates self-storage facilities. We are the largest owner and operator of self-storage space in the United States. Our common stock is traded on the New York Stock Exchange under the symbol "PSA". On August 22, 2006, the Company merged with Shurgard Storage Centers, Inc., ("Shurgard"), a REIT which had an interest in 487 self-storage facilities located in the United States ("U.S.") and had an interest in 160 self-storage facilities in Europe. See Note 3 to our consolidated financial statements included elsewhere in this report for further discussion of our merger with Shurgard. At December 31, 2006, we had direct and indirect equity interests in 2,003 self-storage facilities located in 38 states within the U.S. operating under the "Public Storage" name containing approximately 125 million net rentable square feet of space, and 166 self-storage facilities located in seven Western European countries which operate under the "Shurgard Storage Centers" name containing approximately 8.7 million net rentable square feet of space. ...
