Family owned and operated, Raymour's Furniture Company the predecessor of Raymour & Flanigan Furniture -- was established by brothers Bernard and Arnold Goldberg in 1947. Beginning with a single, modest store in downtown Syracuse, N.Y., today Raymour & Flanigan is the largest furniture retailer in the Northeast. Current CEO and President Neil Goldberg joined the family business in 1972. During this time, a "Warehouse Showroom" opened in the nearby suburb of Liverpool, N.Y., offering fully accessorized furniture at low take-home or delivered prices. This concept, along with Raymour's aggressive credit program, paved the foundation for future growth. By the late 1970's, Raymour's had expanded to four stores, and both Steven and Michael Goldberg joined the company. A showroom opened in an eastern suburb of Syracuse, in Dewitt, N.Y., in 1975, and was followed three years later with another showroom in the western suburb of Camillus, N.Y. The opening of an Oswego, N.Y. location marked the first move outside the immediate Syracuse area.
