Diamond Multimedia, RIAA Settle Lawsuit Over Rio MP3 Player
Diamond Multimedia Systems Inc and the Recording Industry Association of America RIAA have settled all pending litigation relating to Diamond's Rio portable MP3 player. MP3 "Space-Shifting" Ruled Fair Use Under Copyright Law
A US Court of Appeals panel has ruled that the MP3 audio compression format "space-shifts" digital music files in the same way a video recorder "time-shifts" television shows. That ruling implies that copying legitimately obtained files with MP3 technology should be considered "fair use" under copyright law. The landmark decision...

The Recording Industry Association of America RIAA has sued Diamond Multimedia over the company's portable MP3 player, the Rio, resulting in some rapidfire headlines, a battle of press releases, some hastily called news conferences, and an interesting, yet puzzling, court ruling. In an effort to "protect the creative content...
keep those CARDS and LETTERS coming
How about putting 250 or so songs on a single CD-R? On a Red Book audio CD, you couldn't record them as 250 discrete tracks, since the format limits you to 99, and 99 tracks in 74 minutes hardly leaves much room for musical enlightenment. But if you play CDs...
