Nick Horler, 49, was appointed ScottishPower CEO in June 2008 following an impressive career in which he has held senior strategic roles in major companies both in the UK and abroad. His appointment follows the company’s successful integration with Iberdrola, - one of the world’s largest energy companies. ScottishPower has quickly become a principal engine of growth of the Iberdrola Group, employing over 10,000 people in the generation, transmission and retail of energy in the UK. Before joining ScottishPower, Nick was Executive Director of E.ON UK plc and has held other senior executive positions in that group for more than 10 years. Prior to this he spent twelve years with Phillips Petroleum (now ConocoPhillps) where he progressed to Sales and Marketing Director. Nick is married with a family of three. He attended the University of Newcastle-Upon-Tyne and subsequently gained an MBA from Warwick University.

Adrian Coats was appointed as Treasury & Purchasing Director and member of the Executive Team in July 2007. His responsibilities include treasury, investor relations, purchasing and insurance. He is a Chartered Accountant and a fellow of the Association of Corporate Treasurers and joined ScottishPower on privatisation in 1990. Since then he has been responsible for the debt financing of the ScottishPower group as well as foreign exchange and interest rate risk management. He is a Trustee of the Scottish Power Pension Fund and a Director of Murray Income Trust PLC.

John Campbell is the Director responsible for our Energy Wholesale business. He was appointed to this position in September 2005, following four years as Managing Director of Energy Management. John originally joined ScottishPower as a Graduate Trainee in 1988 in the Operational Research Department and his past appointments have included Trading and Metering Director and Commercial Director for Customer Sales and Services. He is a graduate of the University of Strathclyde, with a joint honours degree in Operational Research and Economics.

Matthew Harwood is the Director responsible for Strategic Market Development. Matthew joined ScottishPower in 2004. His initial work focused on corporate strategy development, business planning and M&A (including Pacificorp and Iberdrola transactions). Most recently he launched a “product management” function in Energy Retail to improve customer and product value. Matthew’s business career began as an engineer with Shell Exploration and Production where he subsequently became a business development manager. Matthew then moved to management consultancy with strategy firm Booz & Co where he advised a variety clients across the energy sector. Matthew is now working with the Executive and is responsible for developing a unified growth and development strategy for ScottishPower within its key markets. He also has executive responsibility for both research and development and risk across ScottishPower. Of this appointment Matthew said: “this is a unique opportunity to craft our ScottishPower strategy and unifying vision within the newly shaped Iberdrola group and to look for the new value creating development opportunities which will make ScottishPower greater than the sum of its parts.” Matthew lives in Glasgow and is engaged to be married in 2009. He holds a first class Honours degree in Chemistry from the University of Oxford, a PhD from the University of Cambridge and completed a Post Doctoral Research fellowship at the University of Colorado. He is also a certified engineer. He is a keen outdoorsman, Matthew is passionate about exploring the Scottish highlands and islands and speaks Spanish (rapidly improving) and reasonable Dutch.

Willie MacDiarmid is the Director responsible for our Energy Retail business. Appointed to this position in September 2005, Willie was previously Managing Director of Customer Sales and Services, and has been instrumental in building ScottishPower’s customer facing processes and reputation. Since joining us in 1989, his roles have included Sales and Marketing Director of Energy Supply (where he led ScottishPower’s strategy to maximise customer growth in the deregulating energy market) and Managing Director of ScottishPower’s former chain of electrical retail shops and superstores.

Alan Bryce is the Director responsible for our Energy Networks business. Alan joined Energy Networks from Energy Wholesale where he was Generation Director for more than 3 years, and immediately prior to that he was Planning and Strategy Director for the UK Division. He has 25 years of experience in the Industry and holds a Masters Degree in Electrical Power Engineering from the University of Strathclyde.

Dominic works for one of the UK's leading financial public relations consultancies. He was previously group communications director of ScottishPower plc and before that, of J Sainsbury plc.

Marion was appointed Head of Legal and General Secretary in October 2007. Prior to this, she was the Legal and Commercial Director for EnergyNetworks. Marion is responsible for the provision of all legal advice and support across the group business units, including advice to the ScottishPower board. Additional responsibilities include maintenance of the corporate governance framework and corporate structure management. Prior to joining ScottishPower, Marion held various roles in Clyde Blowers, Seagram Distillers plc, John Wood Group plc and a traineeship with Scottish Enterprise. She holds a LLB (Hons) Dip LP form the University of Strathclyde.

Ramón Fernández is the Director responsible for Finance, Administration and Tax in Scottish Power. Ramón joined Iberdrola Internacional in 1998 as Strategy and Risk Director. In 2001 he was appointed Finance Director of Iberdrola’s Gas Business. During 2007 he was a senior member of the SPW-Iberdrola Integration Project. Prior to Iberdrola, Ramón held senior finance positions in Endesa Internacional and Repsol-Ypf E&P. Ramón is a graduate in Law and Business Administration.

Rupert Steele is responsible for relations with Government and regulatory stakeholders. Rupert was appointed to this position and to the Executive Team on joining ScottishPower in April 2007. Prior to this, he ran a consultancy business (Energy Strategies Limited) that advised utility, City and Government clients on energy policy issues. His earlier career included 16 years working on energy issues in the Department of Trade and Industry and three years at TXU Europe. He was appointed OBE in 1992.
