The company generates, transmits, and distributes electricity to 5.1 million residential and business customers in the UK and 1.6 million customers in the US West. It mines coal and stores gas, has 65,000 km of underground cables, and 47,000 km of overhead cables. The company has annual revenue of about Aú6.85 billion and employs about 16,000 people. In 2006 the company sold PacifiCorp to MidAmerican Energy Holdings Company for US$5.1 billion in cash plus the assumption of all of PacifiCorp's debt..

Nick Horler, 49, was appointed ScottishPower CEO in June 2008 following an impressive career in which he has held senior strategic roles in major companies both in the UK and abroad. His appointment follows the company’s successful integration with Iberdrola, - one of the world’s largest energy companies. ScottishPower has quickly become a principal engine of growth of the Iberdrola Group, employing over 10,000 people in the generation, transmission and retail of energy in the UK. Before joining ScottishPower, Nick was Executive Director of E.ON UK plc and has held other senior executive positions in that group for more than 10 years. Prior to this he spent twelve years with Phillips Petroleum (now ConocoPhillps) where he progressed to Sales and Marketing Director. Nick is married with a family of three. He attended the University of Newcastle-Upon-Tyne and subsequently gained an MBA from Warwick University.

Adrian Coats was appointed as Treasury & Purchasing Director and member of the Executive Team in July 2007. His responsibilities include treasury, investor relations, purchasing and insurance. He is a Chartered Accountant and a fellow of the Association of Corporate Treasurers and joined ScottishPower on privatisation in 1990. Matthew Harwood is the Director responsible for Strategic Market Development. Matthew joined ScottishPower in 2004. His initial work focused on corporate strategy development, business planning and M&A (including Pacificorp and Iberdrola transactions). Most recently he launched a “product management” function in Energy Retail to improve customer and product value. Matthew’s business career began as an engineer with Shell Exploration and Production where he subsequently became a business development manager. Matthew then moved to management consultancy with strategy firm Booz & Co where he advised a variety clients across the energy sector. Matthew is now working with the Executive and is responsible for developing a unified growth and development strategy for ScottishPower within its key markets. He also has executive responsibility for both research and development and risk across ScottishPower. Of this appointment Matthew said: “this is a unique opportunity to craft our ScottishPower strategy and unifying vision within the newly shaped Iberdrola group and to look for the new value creating development opportunities which will make ScottishPower greater than the sum of its parts.” Matthew lives in Glasgow and is engaged to be married in 2009. He holds a first class Honours degree in Chemistry from the University of Oxford, a PhD from the University of Cambridge and completed a Post Doctoral Research fellowship at the University of Colorado. He is also a certified engineer. He is a keen outdoorsman, Matthew is passionate about exploring the Scottish highlands and islands and speaks Spanish (rapidly improving) and reasonable Dutch.
