James C. Raabe has served as Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer since April 1999. From September 1997 to April 1999, Mr. Raabe served as Select Comfort’s Controller. From May 1992 to September 1997, he served as Vice President of Finance of ValueRx, Inc., a pharmacy benefit management provider. Mr. Raabe held various positions with KPMG LLP from August 1982 to May 1992.

Karen R. Richard serves as VP, Chief Human Resource & Strategy Officer for Select Comfort Corporation. From January 2006 through July 2008, Ms. Richard served as Vice President, Human Resources and prior to that she served as Vice President, Finance supporting Select Comfort’s Consumer Channels and Marketing. Ms. Richard also held a variety of positions in the company’s finance department after joining Select Comfort in May of 1996. From 1993 to 1996, Ms. Richard held various accounting positions with TCF Mortgage Corporation, an affiliate of TCF Financial Corporation.

Tim Werner , 45, has served as Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer since March 2009. From October 2008 through February 2009 he served as Vice President, Marketing. Mr. Werner served as Vice President, Direct and E-Commerce from October 2007 to September 2008 and as Vice President, Retail Partners developing our Wholesale business from October 2002 to July 2006. Mr. Werner also held a variety of positions in our Direct channel business after joining us in May 1996. From 1986 to 1996, Mr. Werner held marketing positions with L.L. Bean, Inc. and Fingerhut Corporation.

Wendy L. Schoppert joined Select Comfort as Senior Vice President and General Manager – New Channel Development & Strategy in April 2005 and effective January 2007, became Senior Vice President – International. In addition, in October 2007, Ms. Schoppert also assumed the role of Chief Information Officer. From 2002 to March 2005, Ms. Schoppert led various departments within U.S. Bancorp Asset Management, most recently serving as Head of Private Asset Management and Marketing. From 1996 to 2000, she held several positions with America West Holdings Corporation, including Vice President of America West Vacations and head of the airline’s Reservations division. Prior to 1996, Ms. Schoppert held various finance-related positions at both Northwest Airlines and American Airlines.

Mark A. Kimball has served as Senior Vice President, Legal, General Counsel and Secretary since August 2003. From July 2000 to August 2003, Mr. Kimball served as Senior Vice President, Human Resources and Legal, General Counsel and Secretary. From May 1999 to July 2000, Mr. Kimball served as our Senior Vice President, Chief Administrative Officer, General Counsel and Secretary. For more than five years prior to joining Select Comfort, Mr. Kimball was a partner in the law firm of Oppenheimer Wolff & Donnelly LLP practicing in the area of corporate finance.

Scott F. Peterson has served as Senior Vice President, Human Resources since August 2003. From January 2002 to August 2003, Mr. Peterson served as Senior Vice President of Human Resources at Lifetime Fitness, a proprietor of health and fitness clubs. From March 2000 through November 2001, he served as Chief People Officer for SimonDelivers.com, an internet-based grocery sales and delivery company. From 1990 through 2000, he served in a variety of capacities with The Pillsbury Company, a food manufacturer, most recently as Vice President, Human Resources, for the Bakeries and Foodservice Division.

Pete Bils is the senior director of the newly created Sleep Innovation function at Select Comfort. Bils leads the company's efforts to educate consumers about all aspects of sleep, sleep deprivation and sleep solutions. Bils also serves as the Chair of the company's Sleep Advisory Board, a consortium of health care professionals with sleep expertise across several disciplines including sleep disorders, pain management, women's health, pediatrics and clinical sleep research. Bils continually researches and investigates the use of new technologies to promote better sleep such as computerized pressure mapping to demonstrate the effects of various sleep surfaces on the human body.

Mirco is a SHRM member and has been a member of TCHRA since 2001. He served as a TCHRA member on the HRD, International teams in 2002-2003, as a Team Leader for the International Team in 2003-2005 and as a VP of Program since 2005. He worked for Personnel Decisions International as an HR Generalist and Recruitment Manager between 2000 and 2008 and currently holds the position of HR Manager with Select Comfort. Mirco received an MBA from the University of Vermont.

Brenda J. Lauderback was appointed to the Select Comfort Board of Directors in February 2004. Ms. Lauderback served as President of the Retail and Wholesale Group for the Nine West Group, Inc., a designer and marketer of women's footwear and accessories, from May 1995 until January 1998. Ms. Lauderback also serves as a director of Big Lots, Inc., Irwin Financial Corporation, Wolverine World Wide, Inc., and Denny’s Corporation.

Ervin R. Shames has served as a member of the Select Comfort Board of Directors since April 1996 and was elected Chairman of the Board in February 2008. Mr. Shames previously served as Chairman of our Board of Directors from April 1996 to April 1999. From May 2004 until February 2008, Mr. Shames assumed the role of Lead Director under our Corporate Governance Principles. Since January 1995, Mr. Shames has served as an independent management consultant to consumer goods and services companies, advising on management and marketing strategy. Since 1996, he has been a Lecturer at the University of Virginia's Darden Graduate School of Business. From December 1993 to January 1995, he served as the Chief Executive Officer of Borden, Inc., and was President and Chief Operating Officer of Borden, Inc., from July 1993 until December 1993. From June 1990 to June 1992, he was the Chief Executive Officer of Stride Rite Corporation and from June 1992 to July 1993 he was Stride Rite's Chairman and Chief Executive Officer. From 1967 to 1989, Mr. Shames was employed by General Foods/Altria Companies in varying capacities including the President of General Foods International, General Foods USA and Kraft USA. Mr. Shames serves as a director of Online Resources Corporation, Choice Hotels International, Inc., and several privately held companies.

Michael A. Peel has served as a member of the Select Comfort Board of Directors since February 2003. In October 2008, Mr. Peel was appointed as the Vice President for Human Resources and Administration of Yale University. From 1991 to 2008, Mr. Peel served as Senior Vice President, Human Resources and Corporate Services of General Mills, Inc., a manufacturer and marketer of packaged consumer foods, since 1991. From 1977 to 1991, Mr. Peel served in various capacities for PepsiCo, Inc., including as Senior Vice President, Human Resources for PepsiCo Worldwide Foods from 1987 to 1991.

Stephen L. Gulis, Jr., has served the Company as Executive Vice President, Chief Financial Officer and Treasurer since April 1996. From 1994 to April 1996 he served as Vice President and Chief Financial Officer. From 1993 to 1994 he served as Vice President of Finance and Corporate Controller and from 1986 to 1993 he was the Vice President of Administration and Controller for The Hush Puppies Company.

David T. Kollat, Ph.D., has served as a member of the Select Comfort Board of Directors since February 1994. Dr. Kollat has served as President and Chairman of 22 Inc., a research and consulting company for retailers and consumer goods manufacturers, since 1987. From 1976 until 1987, he served in various capacities for The Limited, Inc., a women's apparel retailer, including Executive Vice President of Marketing and President of Victoria's Secret Catalogue. Dr. Kollat also serves as a director of Big Lots, Inc., The Limited, Inc., and Wolverine World Wide, Inc.

Dr. Miles Belgrade is a neurologist and director of the Fairview Pain Management Center at Fairview-University Medical Center in Minneapolis. He completed his residency training in neurology at the University of Minnesota and is board-certified in neurology by the American Board of Neurology and Psychiatry. He is board-certified in pain medicine by the American Academy of Pain Medicine. Dr. Belgrade's professional interests include medical management of pain, neuropathic pain, cancer pain and acupuncture. Academic interests include teaching and writing about pain.

Dr. Susan Czapiewski is a geropsychiatrist and Assistant Professor, Family Practice and Community Health, University of Minnesota, teaching at the Methodist Hospital-Park Nicollet Family Practice residency program. Raised in the Washington D.C. area, Dr. Czapiewski majored in French at Oberlin College. She received her medical degree, master's degree in Family Planning Administration and completed her psychiatry residency at the University of Minnesota. Dr. Czapiewski completed a fellowship in Geriatric Medicine at Hennepin County Medical Center. Her professional interests are geriatrics, neuropsychiatry and patient-physician interactions.

Eve Van Cauter, Ph.D. is professor of medicine at the University of Chicago, where she directs the Research Laboratory on Sleep, Chronobiology and Neuroendocrinology. A native of Belgium, Dr. Van Cauter obtained her MS in Physics (1970), MS in Actuarial Sciences (1972) and Ph.D. in Biophysics (1977) from the Universite Libre de Bruxelles. Current research in her laboratory includes: the impact of decreases in sleep duration and quality on hormones and metabolism, and the interaction of sleep loss with the aging process.

Prior to founding Apex in 1987, Jim was a founding partner of Knightsbridge Partners, a middle market buy-out firm. Prior to Knightsbridge, Jim served in senior management roles with Beatrice Foods, including corporate CFO and senior vice president of the $6 billion US Foods subsidiary. While at Beatrice, Jim was involved in more than 200 acquisitions and divestitures. Jim holds an MBA from Northwestern University, and a BA from Loyola University. Jim currently serves on the boards of Envestnet and E-Duction, and is a board observer of Smooth Corporation.

Dr. Shaver is currently Professor and Dean, College of Nursing at the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC). She serves as Co-director for the UIC National Center of Excellence in Women's Health Research Core. She currently is President of the American Academy of Nursing, a member of the National Advisory Council for the National Institute of Nursing Research at the National Institutes of Health and on the Board of Trustees for Advocate Health Care (a large 8-hospital integrated health system in Chicago). Dr. Shaver has been studying sleep problems in women for nearly two decades. She continues to work with a team that was among the first to study sleep problems as a part of menopause in women. She is currently studying sleep within a set of mystery conditions that disproportionately affect women, including fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue syndrome.

Thomas J. Albani has served as a member of the Select Comfort Board of Directors since February 1994. Mr. Albani served as President and Chief Executive Officer of Electrolux Corporation, a manufacturer of premium floor care machines, from June 1991 to May 1998. From September 1984 to April 1989, he was employed by Allegheny International Inc., a home appliance manufacturing company, in a number of positions, most recently as Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer. Mr. Albani also serves as a director of several other companies.

Christopher P. Kirchen has served as a member of the Select Comfort Board of Directors since December 1991. Mr. Kirchen currently is Managing General Partner of BEV Capital, a venture capital firm that he co-founded in March 1997. From 1986 to December 2002, he was a General Partner of Consumer Venture Partners, a venture capital firm. Mr. Kirchen also serves as a director of several privately held companies.
