Pete Bils is the senior director of the newly created Sleep Innovation function at Select Comfort. Bils leads the company's efforts to educate consumers about all aspects of sleep, sleep deprivation and sleep solutions. Bils also serves as the Chair of the company's Sleep Advisory Board, a consortium of health care professionals with sleep expertise across several disciplines including sleep disorders, pain management, women's health, pediatrics and clinical sleep research. Bils continually researches and investigates the use of new technologies to promote better sleep such as computerized pressure mapping to demonstrate the effects of various sleep surfaces on the human body.

Ervin R. Shames has served as a member of the Select Comfort Board of Directors since April 1996 and was elected Chairman of the Board in February 2008. Mr. Shames previously served as Chairman of our Board of Directors from April 1996 to April 1999. From May 2004 until February 2008, Mr. Shames assumed the role of Lead Director under our Corporate Governance Principles. Since January 1995, Mr. Shames has served as an independent management consultant to consumer goods and services companies, advising on management and marketing strategy. Dr. Miles Belgrade is a neurologist and director of the Fairview Pain Management Center at Fairview-University Medical Center in Minneapolis.
He completed his residency training in neurology at the University of Minnesota and is board-certified in neurology by the American Board of Neurology and Psychiatry. He is board-certified in pain medicine by the American Academy of Pain Medicine. Dr. Shaver is currently Professor and Dean, College of Nursing at the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC). She serves as Co-director for the UIC National Center of Excellence in Women's Health Research Core. She currently is President of the American Academy of Nursing, a member of the National Advisory Council for the National Institute of Nursing Research at the National Institutes of Health and on the Board of Trustees for Advocate Health Care (a large 8-hospital integrated health system in Chicago). Christopher P. Kirchen has served as a member of the Select Comfort Board of Directors since December 1991. Mr. Kirchen currently is Managing General Partner of BEV Capital, a venture capital firm that he co-founded in March 1997. From 1986 to December 2002, he was a General Partner of Consumer Venture Partners, a venture capital firm. Mr. Kirchen also serves as a director of several privately held companies.
