Jonathan Schwartz is chief executive officer and president of Sun Microsystems, and a member of Sun's board of directors. He became Sun's CEO in 2006, succeeding the Company's co-founder and current chairman of the board, Scott McNealy. Schwartz was promoted to president and chief operating officer in 2004, and managed all operational functions at Sun - from product development and marketing, to global sales and service. An inveterate communicator, Schwartz has led Sun's drive to engage the marketplace, and redefine corporate transparency. A leader behind many of Sun's open source and standard setting initiatives, Jonathan's been an outspoken advocate for the network as a utility with more than just value for the computing industry - but as a tool for driving economic, social and political progress. Prior to his position as COO, Schwartz served as Sun's executive vice president for software, its Chief Strategy Officer, and held a variety of leadership positions across product and corporate development. Anil is Executive Vice President of Sun’s Application Platform Software group. In this role he is responsible for leading Sun's open source based software businesses ranging from the popular MySQL opensource database, Software Infrastructure including Identity and the opensource GlassFish application server, Java including Java FX and Sun Learning Services.

Dave Marr is Chief Counsel to Sun's Open Source Group and Global Engineering practices. In his open source role, he is responsible for open source licensing strategy, its associated legal ramifications, driving policy and process change to address open source risk factors, and manages a variety of open source legal matters for Sun within the US and internationally. In support of Global Engineering, Dave is responsible for planning and managing the needed legal support the rapidly growing global engineering centers, with a focus on St. Petersburg, Prague, Beijing and Bangalore. He manages a team of international in-house lawyers aligned with the mission to enable research, development, and engineering collaboration for Sun worldwide. Dave also manages the legal team who supports Sun's Microelectronics group, which includes the industry leading multicore, multi-threaded RISC technologies. With more than 14 years at Sun, Gilles is responsible for identifying and implementing strategic partnerships and solution sets to address government market needs worldwide. Greg Papadopoulos

As Chief Technology Officer and Executive Vice President of Research and Development at Sun, Greg Papadopoulos directs the company's approximate $2B in R&D portfolio with an eye toward innovation, simplicity, and eco-responsibility. With more than 20 years experience in the technology industry, Papadopoulos is responsible for managing Sun's technology decisions and architecture. His team leads Sun Labs, the DARPA High Performance Computing Systems program, global engineering architecture and advanced development programs.
Passionate about technology and its possibilities, Papadopoulos supports open development models that stimulate communication, creativity and innovation, which he promotes through his blog, Greg Matter, as well as numerous speaking engagements.
During his tenure with Sun, Papadopoulos has held several positions, including vice president of technology and advanced development for the company's systems business, chief scientist for server systems engineering, and chief scientist for enterprise servers and storage.
Before joining Sun in 1994, Papadopoulos was senior architect and director of product strategy for Thinking Machines, where he led the design of the CM6 massively parallel supercomputer.
Papadopoulos was an associate professor of electrical engineering and computer science at MIT, where he conducted research in scalable systems, multi threaded/data flow processor architecture, functional and declarative languages, and fault-tolerant computing. Papadopoulos also worked as a development engineer at Hewlett-Packard and Honeywell, where he designed flight-control systems for Boeing jetliners. He co-founded three companies: PictureTel (video conferencing), Ergo (high-end PCs) and Exa Corporation (computational fluid dynamics).
Papadopoulos participates in several associations, including serving as chairman of the board for the Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence (SETI), as a member of the Board of Trustees for the Anita Borg Institute for Women and Technology, and as a member of the President's Board on Science and Innovation at the University of California. Greg acts as a technical advisor for BP and Alien Technologies.

Dr. James Baty is currently the Vice President and CTO for Sun's GlobalSales organization. Jim has been a Sun Systems Architect for over eight years and was the first person in Sun Services to achieve recognition asa Sun Distinguished Engineer.
Jim is an expert in the design, implementation and management of information technology. He is renowned for his work as lead Architect in designing the technical architectures for many of Sun's customers,including highly available systems for several global telecommunication sand financial services companies. His work has repeatedly enhanced Sun's ability to deliver services architecture and enables rapid time-to-market functionality for our customers. Dr. Baty has been responsible for the design of many large-scale customer projects that focus on availability, scalability, and manageability. In his current role, he provides technical leadership for the global architectural and technical delivery teams in Sun's sales organizations.
Karie Willyerd leads the award-winning Sun Learning Services (SLS) organization where she is responsible for employee, customer, partner and community learning. This includes Sun's product and technical training; technical publications; executive, management and professional skill development; business, sales and services learning; as well as library and research servicesâ€â€all worldwide. Willyerd also directs the globalization group, which produces localized versions of Sun's products to widen demand for Sun solutions in regional markets.
SLS's customer learning business provides Solaris, Java and other Sun software training to university students, developers, system administratorsâ€â€essentially anyone interested in building a software career. Operating in over 150 countries, SLS delivers 6.5 million training hours a year to more than 600,000 students inside and outside Sun.
Since joining Sun in 2005, Willyerd consolidated 12 disparate training and research-oriented functions at Sun into one cohesive group. She has spearheaded programs that make more learning available onlineâ€â€some in smaller packages of content, some at no charge. She has also driven a strategy to make learning accessible through different approach pathsâ€â€such as by role, by product, by solution and by certification path.

Willyerd began her learning career as an instructional designer at an engineering training consultancy in the nuclear industry. Since then, she has continued to hone her skills in training, eLearning, leadership development, executive coaching and management. Most recently, she held the position of vice president and chief talent officer for Solectron where she was responsible for worldwide executive development, organization development, global staffing, training and development, performance management, mergers and acquisitions. Previously, she led the employee development function at Lockheed Martin Tactical Aircraft Systems and executive development at H.J. Heinz.
Willyerd holds a master's degree in instructional and performance technology from Boise State University and a doctorate in management from Case Western Reserve University.
Lew Tucker is Vice President and CTO of Cloud Computing at Sun Microsystems, Inc. His focus today is on the evolution of computing as it moves into the cloud, but his contributions span several waves of technology innovation over the last 20 years.
Prior to re-joining Sun Microsystems, he was a Vice President at Salesforce.com where he created AppExchange, advancing the company's strategy to become the leading SaaS platform for business applications. He went on to be CTO at Radar Networks, an innovative semantic-web based Internet service for tracking interests. During his previous tenure at Sun Microsystems, Tucker was an early member of the JavaSoft executive team at Sun driving developer adoption of the Java platform, and later became Vice President, Internet Services, with overall responsibility for Sun's Internet sites and services. Tucker's interest in distributed computing started in the mid 80's as a research scientist and Director of advanced development at Thinking Machines, working on machine vision and system architecture to create the massively parallel Connection Machine.
He holds a Ph.D. in Computer Science and has a background in Artificial Intelligence, Neurobiology, and large-scale parallel algorithms.
Michael Lehman

As chief financial officer and executive vice president of Corporate Resources for Sun Microsystems, Inc., Lehman holds management responsibilities for the company's finance, information technology, and global business services functions. He reports directly to Jonathan Schwartz, Sun's chief executive officer and president.
Lehman's blue-chip credentials include a long and successful association with Sun, both as an executive and, most recently, as a board member. He served on Sun's board in various capacities from 2002 until re-joining the company as CFO in February 2006.
Prior to serving on the board of directors, Lehman was an employee of Sun for 15 years. Most recently, Lehman was executive vice president, corporate resources and chief financial officer overseeing Sun's finance, legal, real estate, and information resources functions as well as Sun's corporate planning and strategy group and its public policy efforts.
Previously, Lehman was vice president and corporate controller of Sun, where he was responsible for the preparation of the company's public financial information, overseeing Sun's financial staff, and coordinating the company's outlook and budgeting processes. Before this, Lehman was the director of finance and administration for Sun's Asian subsidiaries based in Hong Kong.
Before his career at Sun, Lehman was a Certified Public Accountant with Price Waterhouse, and worked in the Milwaukee and San Francisco offices.
Lehman serves on the board of directors of the University of Wisconsin Foundation and is former chair of the Dean's Advisory Board of the school of business at Madison. He is also on the board of MGIC Investment Corporation, where he serves as chair of MGIC's Audit Committee.

Michelle Dennedy

Michelle Dennedy is Chief Governance Officer for Cloud Computing at Sun Microsystems, Inc. Michelle works with Sun's business, technical and legal teams to develop and adhere to the best data governance policies and processes possible for cloud computing to build trust for cloud environments.
Prior to her current role, Michelle served as Sun’s Chief Privacy Officer where she was responsible for the development and implementation of Sun's data privacy policies and practices, working across Sun's business groups to drive the company's data privacy excellence. Data privacy is a cornerstone of Sun's approach to compliance with complex, demanding international data regulations, as well as escalating policy and process oriented requirements imposed globally.
Michelle co-founded Sun's internal Privacy Council, an organization that engaged stakeholders from across the company a to promote and promulgate a cohesive practice throughout the organization to protect Sun's relationships with its customers and employees. Leveraging her persuasion skills honed in law practice and courtroom litigation, Michelle is a sought-after and provocative public speaker, evangelizing new approaches and business justifications for soundly-defined, transparent privacy policies and systems that protect healthy, safe global businesses.
Michelle has a JD from Fordham University School of Law and a BS degree with university honors from Ohio State University.
Rick Hetherington is the chief technology officer for Sun's recently formed Microelectronics business unit where he sets the technical direction for Sun's SPARC processor development and related technologies. Hetherington is driving Sun's leadership in the chip multithreading (CMT) approach to processor design, in which multiple cores and multiple threads combine to generate extraordinary throughput and power efficiency.
Prior to his appointment as CTO, Hetherington provided oversight for the architecture, performance and roadmap of UltraSPARC T1(TM) processors and systems as chief architect for Sun's Horizontal Systems group. From 2000 to 2002, Hetherington took a hiatus from Sun to join a networking start-up as VP of engineering.
Hetherington originally joined Sun in 1996 as co-architect of Sun's Project Millennium processor. Prior to Sun, he spent 16 years with Digital Equipment Corp., working on a variety of VAX and Alpha processors and systems. His last position at Digital was system architect of EV6 (21264) processor.
Hetherington earned his bachelor's degree from Pennsylvania State University and currently holds 47 patents.

Appointed Chief Information Officer of Sun Microsystems, Inc. in July 2006, Bob Worrall is responsible for all aspects of Sun's global IT infrastructure and line-of-business application development, support and maintenance, including information service delivery and security. Under Worrall's direction, the IT department is dedicated to working with business partners to accelerate Sun's business by aligning Sun's technology deployment strategy with its business strategy. The IT department takes a leadership role in the design of world-class, integrated strategies, processes and architecture that ensure the integrity of Sun's computing platform and a more productive, efficient and valuable use of information within the enterprise.
In addition, the IT department incorporates Sun's leading edge products and innovative technologies into its internal business support infrastructure to test and showcase new enterprise computing models. Feedback to product groups enhances the quality of Sun's products before they are released to customers.
Prior to his appointment as Sun's CIO, Worrall was honored by CIO Magazine as one of its 'Ones to Watch' for 2006. This prestigious award was given to 20 people nationwide who are considered future CIO's.
With 25 years of technical and IT management experience, Worrall has held a wide variety of Information Technology roles at Sun. Most recently, he served as Vice President of Information Technology, reporting directly to the CIO. In this role, he led Sun's IT Strategy, Architecture and Governance organization, and was responsible for defining the overall IT Architecture as well as managing all compliance and regulatory commitments for the IT organization.
Worrall also served as Vice President of applications for Sun's Global Sales and E-Commerce organizations as well as Vice President of Worldwide IT Operations which included responsibility for Systems Administration as well as Data Center, HelpDesk, Voice and Network Services.

Dr. Tim Marsland is a Sun Fellow, Vice President and CTO in the Software Organization at Sun Microsystems. In his 17 year career at Sun he has contributed to every Solaris release, working on many different areas of the Solaris operating environment, from strategic direction, systems architecture, release models to Solaris implementation, diagnosing and fixing bugs. During Solaris 10 he designed the Solaris Express release model, contributed to the early design work on Zones, aided with the revival of Solaris x86 platforms, and served as architect and an implementor for 64-bit Solaris on x86. His current interests include hardware and software virtualization technologies.

As Chief Human Resources Officer and Executive Vice President of People and Places, Bill MacGowan leads the human resources, real estate and security organizations for Sun Microsystems. He and his team ensure that Sun has world class talent, and the people strategies and work environments needed to drive business results.
MacGowan has global responsibility for all human resources activities, including organization effectiveness, succession planning, leadership development, staffing, performance management, total rewards, employee communications, HR information systems, and HR service delivery to Sun's global workforce.
Building an inclusive workforce has been a priority for many years, and in 2007 MacGowan received the Diversity Best Practices Legacy award for lifetime achievements on behalf of women, minorities, and people of color in the workplace.
MacGowan's real estate organization oversees Sun's $1.2 billion real estate portfolio. This group develops and implements innovative workplace strategies, including Sun's internationally recognized Open Work program. More than half of Sun's global employee population use the Open Work program, which reduces costs to Sun and boosts employee productivity.
MacGowan joined Sun Microsystems in June 1998 to provide HR leadership to a fast growing field service team: the Enterprise Services division in Colorado. In the ensuing years, he has led groups in nearly every area of the Human Resources organization. MacGowan supported engineering business groups as HR VP for Sun's Computer Systems, Storage and Operations, then accepted leadership of Sun's corporate HR functions as the VP of Global Centers of Expertise. MacGowan was promoted to Senior VP of Human Resources in 2004, and was named to his current role as Executive VP of People and Places in 2006.
MacGowan brings to the role over 25 years of experience in leading human resources organizations. Previously, Bill was a Vice President of Human Resources for Quest Diagnostics and Corning Inc. Earlier in his career, he gained extensive HR experience, with a particular focus in compensation, at the global pharmaceuticals firm Allergan and at aerospace/defense contractor Northrop Grumman. In his personal time, MacGowan serves as a national trustee for the American Foundation for the Blind and serves on the Advisory Board for the Center for Steinbeck Studies. Bill completed his BA degree in Political Science at Claremont McKenna College.
Brian Sutphin

As Executive Vice President Corporate Development & Alliances, Brian Sutphin heads Sun's inorganic growth efforts, focusing on mergers and acquisitions, strategic alliances and technology licensing.
Under Mr. Sutphin's leadership, the corporate development organization has completed a number of key acquisitions bringing world-class people and industry-leading products and technologies to Sun. Representative acquisitions, spanning the breadth of Sun's product offerings, include MySQL, Cluster File Systems, Waveset Technologies, Kealia, StorageTek and Afara Websystems.
A member of Sun's executive leadership team, Mr. Sutphin is also responsible for the creation and expansion of key corporate-level alliances. These corporate alliances span systems, software and microelectronics, and include such companies as IBM, Intel, Microsoft, Fujitsu, AMD and EMC.
Mr. Sutphin has been at Sun for 14 years, during which time he has held management positions in marketing, business development and engineering. He has headed the corporate development group for the past 9 years.
Mr. Sutphin holds degrees from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and Stanford University.
John Fowler

Fowler has been with Sun for more than 14 years with experience in systems and software development and corporate strategy. As Executive Vice President of Sun's Systems Group, John Fowler is responsible for the delivery of all systems products including SPARC and x64-based servers as well as networking and disk and tape storage products. Additionally, he is responsible for Solaris, Open Solaris and Software Management and Virtualization. Prior to becoming the head of Sun's Systems Group, Fowler was EVP of Sun's x64 Systems Group focused on delivering industry standard network computing systems for Solaris, Linux and Windows.
Before leading Sun's x64 initiative, Fowler was the Chief Technology Officer for Sun Microsystems' Software organization. In his role as CTO for software, Fowler was responsible for overall technical strategy and alignment in addition to managing an advanced development group.
In other previous roles at Sun, Fowler was responsible for identifying leading technology trends and the companies creating these trends for minority investment and acquisition. His group took a forward view on both hardware and software technology developments, identifying companies that are complementary to Sun. He was involved in the acquisitions of Kealia, Inc. (Advanced Server Technology), Nauticus Networks (High-Performance Content Switch), Waveset Technologies, Inc. (Secure Identity Management), Pixo, Inc. (Centralized Data Services for Devices) and many others, resulting in continued innovation and product development for Sun.
Prior to his position with Sun's investment group, Fowler was Director of Engineering for the Sun Software Development Tools organization. Throughout his career at Sun, he has also held a variety of engineering management positions within Java Software, Solaris, Unix Desktop, and Graphics.

Mike Dillon serves as Sun's General Counsel, Executive Vice President and Corporate Secretary. In this role, Mike leads a worldwide organization consisting of three functions: Legal, International Trade Services and Business Conduct.
Mike has worked at Sun Microsystems twice during his 20 year career. From 1993 to 1999, he served in a variety of roles in Sun's legal department including in support of Sun Microelectronics, Sun Soft, Inc., and I-Planet. In 2002, Mike rejoined Sun as Vice President of the Products Law Group. In this role, he was responsible for legal support for all of Sun's product development efforts. In April, 2004 he was appointed to his current role as Sun's General Counsel.
Mike brings significant experience to Sun. Prior to rejoining Sun in 2002, Mike was General Counsel and Corporate Secretary of ONI Systems Corporation, a publicly traded manufacturer of optical networking equipment. Earlier in his career he was an associate and partner at several Bay Area law firms.
He received his J.D. from the University of Santa Clara, where he was also a member of the Santa Clara Law Review.

Mike Splain

Mike Splain was named Executive Vice President of Sun's Microelectronics Group in April of 2008. In this role Mike leads all aspects of the Microelectronics technology development and business operations. A Sun Fellow, Mike has been with Sun for 20 years and also serves as Sun's Chief Engineer and CTO for the Systems Group. Mike is a member of Sun's Executive Leadership Team as well as the Technology Management Team and Team CTO at Sun. As the chief technologist, Mike strongly influences the technology, product, and operational strategies and tactics of the Systems group. He also serves as a valuable Sun wide resource to assist in the understanding and resolution of complex technical problems.
Prior to his current role, Mike has served as CTO for the Scalable Systems Group, Processor and Network Products Group and the previous Microelectronics Group. Mike has participated in the verification of validation of the SuperSPARC-I/II and UltraSPARC-I/II/III/IV microprocessors. While a member of the Scalable Systems Group he helped lead the design, validation, and debug of some of Sun's first initial server product offerings: the Sun 490, Sun 690, SS10, SC1000, and SC2000. In addition to his technical roles, Mike also held a number of management positions including head of development for the MAJC architecture and microprocessors.
Mike joined Sun in 1988 as a staff engineer. Previously, he was a member of the technical staff at Ridge Computers, Vitesse Semiconductor, Encore Computer, and Digital Equipment Corporation where he served in a variety of technical positions related to the development of microprocessors and high-end computer systems.
Mike holds a BS degree in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from the University of Connecticut.

Christine Bucklin

Prior to joining Sun she was the chief operating officer at Internet Brands, Inc., where she was responsible for day-to-day operations across the company, including sales, customer service, product development, and other functions. For seven years, Christine was part of the executive team that grew a startup into a diversified $85 million company.
She has a background in global strategic consulting, having spent seven years at McKinsey & Co. She was the leader of McKinsey's Sales Force and Channel Management Practice, where she built an extensive record of driving bottom-line impact in client organizations in the retail, health care, energy and consumer electronics industries.
A summa cum laude graduate of Dartmouth College, with a degree in mathematics, Christine was the valedictorian of her class. She went on to earn her MBA at Stanford, where she distinguished herself by graduating first in her class.

In this role, Ingrid has led Sun through a unique brand transformation that positions Sun as a leader in the Participation Age for the next decade.
Prior to leading Sun's corporate marketing efforts, Ingrid led software strategic marketing where she incubated Project Orion (the Java Enterprise System) and led the effort to energize the Java brand which resulted in a new consumer touchpoint for Sun, java.com, and a new Java developer community site, java.net. Ingrid first joined Sun in 1987 to develop demos for the visitor center and moved on to product marketing for graphics and eventually marketed Sun's first enterprise servers. Over the years, Ingrid has developed and executed key marketing initiatives including introducing Jini technology to the market. She was also a core part of the team in Sun's CTO organization that created JXTA, a peer-to-peer open source project.
Prior to joining Sun, Ingrid held software development positions at Megatek, United Technologies, and GTE Government Systems. She holds a BA in Mathematics and Computer Science from San Jose State University.
Joe Heel

Joe Heel is Senior Vice President of Sun's $5B Global Services organization. He is responsible for revenue and margins across five segments - Support Services, Professional Services, Managed Services, Learning Services, and Financial Services. His organization includes the creation and development of new services, services marketing, services sales and services delivery.
In previous roles, Joe led Sun's Industries & Partners sales organization, as well as the company's Global Storage Practice. Joe joined Sun in September 2005 with 13+ years as a Partner in the High Tech Practice at McKinsey and Company. At McKinsey, he served clients in Europe, the United States, and Latin America on corporate strategy, operations, mergers and acquisitions, business development, and organizational design. Heel also started and led McKinsey's Miami office and its Private Equity Practice.
Born in Germany, Heel completed a PhD in Computer Science at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and has published numerous academic papers. Fluent in four languages, Joe is married and lives in Silicon Valley, where he enjoys hiking, boating, biking, and skiing.
Aisling MacRunnels serves as Vice President, Application Platform Software Marketing at Sun. Sun's market-leading platforms are among the largest in the industry and have delivered some of the computer industry's most innovative technologies. Sun is also the largest contributor of open source code in the world.
Since joining Sun in 1996, MacRunnels has led several business development and marketing teams. Most recently, she ran marketing for Sun's Utility Computing group. Previously, she was a senior director of software marketing, managing the creation and implementation of disruptive subscription business models for Sun's software systems, including Java Enterprise System, Java Desktop System and Solaris. She earned a Sun 2003 Leadership award recognizing her superior work redefining software business models.
Prior to that, MacRunnels served as director of marketing for Java. In that role, she focused on developing the market for wireless and smart-card applications, winning major OEM contracts, developing an aggressive service provider channel and putting Sun in a leading position worldwide.
Prior to joining Sun, MacRunnels spent several years guiding mergers and acquisitions as a management consultant based in Sydney/Singapore. She provided management consulting for two biotech start-ups, and designed and developed the services business for Cadence Design Systems. She holds a bachelor of science degree from Mt. St. Mary's College and an MBA from Duke University's Fuqua School of Business.

Anthony Robbins joined Sun Microsystems Federal, Inc., in July 2006 and is responsible for all of Sun's U.S. federal government sales.
Robbins has more than 20 years of government sales and technology experience. Most recently, Robbins was senior vice president of worldwide sales for SGI, responsible for global sales, channels, business development and systems engineering. Previously, he was the president of SGI Federal and also held the role of senior vice president of North America. In his sales career, he has led and managed more than $1 billion in revenue and over 1,000 employees. In addition, Robbins managed more than 60 value-added reseller/integrator contracts.
Robbins also held various sales leadership roles at Falcon Microsystems, a leading partner of Apple Computer that was eventually sold to GTSI.
He earned a B.A. in marketing from Jacksonville State University and was named the university's Alumnus of the Year in 1998.
Robbins has been an active member in several key associations including the Armed Forces Communications Electronics Association, the Aerospace Industries Association and the Navy League of the United States.
Robbins lives in Glenwood, Md., with his wife and five children.
