Dow Jones Description
St. Vincent Charity Hospital has a long history of service and volunteerism. In 1851, four European missionary Sisters came to Cleveland, Ohio, to serve the sick and poor. People soon began calling the women "angels" referring both to the white habits they wore and ceaseless compassion they had. Fourteen years later, the Sisters, along with retired surgeon Gustave E. Weber and Bishop Pappe of Cleveland opened St. Vincent Charity Hospital. Today the hospital practices quality Catholic healthcare and provides 24-hour emergency services. It is owned by a partnership between the Sisters of Charity of St. Augustine and University Hospitals Health System. The partnership also includes St. John West Shore Hospital. A standard of excellence and commitment to care have consistently been this partnership's mission. While we are a thriving urban hospital, we have not forgotten our mission. St. Vincent Charity Hospital provide $13 million in charity and uncompensated care annually.
