Jan Bear is a 45-year-old orthopaedic surgeon who grew up in Santa Fe, New Mexico. He is married to Kim and has two daughters Samantha 13 and JJ 11. Jan has been involved in sports since junior high school but over the last 15 years has become interested in endurance sports. This began with several marathons while in medical school and residency then on to multisport events and ultra-endurance races. In the last couple of years, he began competing in adventure races. He enjoys training with his wife also an adventure racer and ultra-endurance athlete. Some of his recent accomplishments include; the only consecutive three time Leadville Trail 100 bike and run finisher, with one of these combination of races being completed with Kim and another with his brother Todd. In 1999 he completed both 100 mile Leadville races in the top level under 9 hours on the bike and under 25 hours in the run. Other accomplishments include a 10th place finish in the Solo division of the 2000 24 Hours of Moab Mountain Bike Race, twelve top 10 age group finishes in the Mt. Taylor Winter Quadrathon, 3rd place in age group at La Ruta de Los Conquistadores the toughest mountain bike race on the planet in Costa Rica in 2000. As a founding member of Team Santa Fe he has also competed in several adventure races in the last 2 years, this year attaining a third place finish in the 4 Winds Mountain Rage adventure race series. Most of these races are completed with his wife Kim also an avid racer and member of Team Santa Fe. During the last 11 years, he has been practicing orthopaedic surgery initially in private practice but since 1997 as a founding partner of Orthopaedic Associates of Northern New Mexico a 6-physician orthopaedic specialty clinic. He is also an associate orthopaedic medical director at St. Vincent Hospital in Santa Fe. Other duties include team physician at Santa Fe Preparatory school. If that s not enough he still has a little time left to work out with Samantha and JJ who are involved in basketball, soccer, cross country and swimming. 2001 has brought real excitement with the opportunity to compete in the Eco-Challenge in New Zealand this October.

Dr. Bauwens is a practicing Emergency Physician at St. Vincent Hospital of Indianapolis. Dr. Bauwens is a graduate of the prestigious Northwestern University Residency in Emergency Medicine. Timothy N. Young, M.D. is a comprehensive ophthalmologist specializing in cataract and refractive surgery. He graduated summa cum laude from Duke University and subsequently attained his medical degree and doctorate in pathology from the Duke University School of Medicine, where he was a medical scientist training program fellow. After an internship at St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis, he completed his ophthalmology residency at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis. Todd Champlin returns to the Indiana Ice as the team's athletic trainer and physical therapist. Currently, Champlin is an athletic trainer employed by St. Vincent Hospital, Sports Medicine Department which is the official sports medicine provider for the Indiana Ice. He also works at the Indiana Orthopaedic Center where he is a physical therapy manager. Champlin is no stranger to hockey as he served as team trainer for the CHL's Indianapolis Ice from 2000-2003. He also worked several seasons with the Buffalo Bandits, a professional indoor lacrosse team. Before arriving in Indianapolis, Champlin owned his own private practice and sports therapy business for ten years in Buffalo, New York. Champlin is a native of Buffalo, NY, but now makes his home in Noblesville, IN. He is married to wife, Victoria and the couple has three children: Andrew, Lindsey, and Lauren.

Dr. Prystowsky has been a member of our board of directors since March 2001. Since 1988, Dr. Prystowsky has served as the Director, Clinical Electrophysiology Laboratory at St. Vincent Hospital, Indianapolis Indiana. Since 1988, Dr. Prystowsky has served as Consulting Professor of Medicine at Duke University. Since 2004, he has served as the associate editor of Hurst Textbook of Cardiology and, since January 2004, he has served as editor-in-chief of the Journal of Cardiovascular Electrophysiology. From 1992 to 1994, he served as the Chairman of the American Heart Association’s Committee on Electrocardiography and Electrophysiology and, from May 2001 to May 2002, as President of the Heart Rhythm Society. Dr. Prystowsky currently serves as the Chairman of the ABIM test writing committee for the Electrophysiology Boards. Dr. Prystowsky currently serves on the board of directors of Stereotaxis, Inc., a biotechnology company. Dr. Prystowsky received an undergraduate degree from the Pennsylvania State University and an M.D. from the Mount Sinai School of Medicine.

Her practice has focused on land use, real estate, higher education law, public entity law, governmental relations, litigation, corporate and business client representation and the defense of civil rights and employment cases. She was a member of the Oliver Seth Inn of Courts. She serves on the City of Santa Fe's Ethics and Campaign Review Board. She is a former Member of the City of Santa Fe Planning Commission and chaired the Urban Policy Committee of that Commission before serving as a Development Review Committee Commissioner. She currently serves as the Chair of the Extraterritorial Zoning Commission. She also serves on the board of the Santa Fe Community Foundation. She is a member of the Zia Chapter of Lambda Alpha International and is also a member of the Century Bank Advisory Board. She is a former Member of the Board of Trustees of St. Vincent Hospital. She previously served as a continuing education liaison to the Young Lawyers Division and subsequently served the State Bar on the Trial Practice Section Board. Ms. Long is a Member of the Bars of New Mexico, the United States District Court for the District of New Mexico, the United States Court of Appeals, Tenth Circuit and the United States Supreme Court. She and her husband, Judge Timothy Garcia, have a son, Ted, and a daughter, Amy.
