John Chen has served as chairman, chief executive officer and president of Sybase, Inc. since 1998. Under his leadership, Sybase has become the recognized industry leader in enterprise mobility infrastructure. In addition, the company has significantly strengthened its position in data management, and has a long track record of increasing revenue and profitability. In acknowledging his business leadership, Forbes magazine named Mr. Chen one of the Top 25 Notable Chinese-Americans in Business. He was named 2007 Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year in Northern California. Mr. Chen is actively involved in international relations. He has testified before Congress on U.S.–China trade relations. In 2005, U.S. President George W. Bush appointed him to serve on the President’s Export Council. In 2006, he was appointed co-chair of the Secure Borders and Open Doors Advisory Committee. In addition, Mr. Chen has been a longtime member of the Committee of 100 and currently serves as its chairman. In recognition of his leadership in building U.S.-Asia relations, he received awards from the US-Asia Institute in 2009 and California-Asia Business Council in 2007. Mr. Chen serves on the boards of directors for the Walt Disney Company, and Wells Fargo & Co. Mr. Chen graduated from Brown University magna cum laude with a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering. He holds a master’s from California Institute of Technology (CalTech). He also has an honorary professorship from Shanghai University, an honorary doctorate from the San Jose State University in California, and the City University of Hong Kong, as well as an honorary doctorate in business administration from the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. Mr. Chen is active in the community. He is a trustee of CalTech as well as a governor of the San Francisco Symphony.

Marty J. Beard has served as president of Sybase 365, a subsidiary of Sybase, Inc., since November 2006. Under his leadership, Sybase 365 has become the recognized global leader in mobile messaging and mobile commerce. Prior to this role, Mr. Beard served as Sybase’s senior vice president, Corporate Development and Marketing from February 2003 to November 2006, and as vice president, Corporate Development from August 2000 to February 2003. Mr. Beard obtained his bachelor’s degree from the University of California, Berkeley, with a double-major in rhetoric and history. He also holds a master’s of business from Georgetown University.

Steve Capelli is president of Worldwide Field Operations at Sybase. Mr. Capelli is responsible for revenue growth and market leadership. He leads global teams focused on direct and partner sales, including ISV, OEM, distributor and reseller channels. Mr. Capelli also manages the integration of Sybase consulting services, customer support and education organizations to maximize customer satisfaction. He has been with Sybase since 1997, managing field operations in North America, Europe, Asia Pacific and Latin America. Before joining Sybase, Mr. Capelli spent five years at Siemens-Pyramid, where he held a variety of positions, including chief financial officer, vice president of inter continental sales and director of field operations. He has also worked in finance and operations at Digital Equipment Corp., Unisys, and W.R. Grace & Company. Mr. Capelli holds an MBA in Finance from Rutgers University and a B.S. in Accounting from The College of New Jersey.

As President of Sybase iAnywhere, Terry Stepien plays an integral role in establishing the company as the premier provider of mobile enterprise solutions. The company has experienced rapid growth under Stepien's leadership, becoming the market leader in mobile database technology for the past six years and the leading provider of mobile middleware solutions. More than 8 million users at 12,000 customer sites worldwide rely on Sybase iAnywhere to power solutions that help to improve productivity, streamline operations and create new revenue sources. In addition, Sybase iAnywhere's AvantGo service is the world's most popular mobile application. During his tenure at the company Mr. Stepien has held many positions including Senior Vice President and General Manager of the Mobile and Embedded Computing division. He also served as Vice President of Product Marketing responsible for Sybase’s key initiatives in Enterprise Data Management, Data Warehouse, Application Development Tools and Occasionally Connected Computing. Before coming to Sybase, Mr. Stepien was at Powersoft Corporation as Vice President of Marketing for Powersoft’s Watcom subsidiary. Mr. Stepien joined Watcom in the early stages of the company’s database business and built the database marketing organization prior to Watcom’s acquisition by Powersoft. Mr. Stepien is an active member of industry consortiums, and is founder and co-chair of the ITAA m-Commerce Committee. Mr. Stepien began his career at the University of Waterloo where he was engaged in software research and development at the University's Computer Systems Group, and where he held an adjunct faculty appointment in the Department of Computer Science. He is a recipient of the 2001 J.W. Graham Medal in Computing and Innovation from the University of Waterloo. Mr. Stepien holds a Master of Mathematics degree in Computer Science from the University of Waterloo in Waterloo, Ontario.

As senior vice president of Product and Technology Operations, Mr. Ho is responsible for Sybase technology research, product development and technical support. His mission is to lead the product development and support teams to further Sybase’s Unwired Enterprise vision. During Mr. Ho’s tenure at Sybase, he led the product development of database management solutions, integrated development tools and Sybase EAServer. He also led the product marketing and development teams to create the Sybase Enterprise Portal and drove the product integration of New Era of Networks in 2001. Mr. Ho was the general manager of the e-Business division until early 2003 and most recently oversaw all Sybase product sales for the worldwide OEM business unit. Mr. Ho has more than 25 years in the computer industry and started at Sybase in 1997. He has been a director at Unisys and Siemens focused on the UNIX Operating System, database product development and strategic partner alliances. Mr. Ho earned a BS in engineering at McGill University in 1978 and an MS in computer science at California Institute of Technology (CALTECH) in 1979.

As vice president, general counsel and secretary, Mr. Carl is responsible for overseeing all legal affairs for Sybase. Mr. Carl joined Sybase in December 1989 as Corporate Counsel and became Associate General Counsel in 1992. He was promoted to vice president in May 1996, and in July 1997 he moved to the UK to direct European legal affairs. Mr. Carl returned to the United States to become general counsel effective April 1999. Before joining Sybase, Mr. Carl practiced corporate law with Berg, Ziegler, Lichtman & Anderson and Horwich & Warner, both San Francisco law firms. From 1978 to 1980 he was an associate with Gray, Cary, Ames & Frye, San Diego, CA. In private practice, Mr. Carl represented clients in various business transactions in the areas of intellectual property, software licensing and distribution, real estate, venture capital and securities. Mr. Carl is a graduate of Stanford University and the University of California's Hastings College of the Law.

As vice president and corporate controller at Sybase, Keith Jensen has global responsibility for a worldwide team of over 200, managing external reporting, compliance, shared services, as well as global processes, systems and controls. Previously, Mr. Jensen was senior director of finance at Sybase. Prior to joining Sybase, Mr. Jensen was chief financial officer for a software provider in the financial services industry, with responsibility for all aspects of its financial reporting and planning, treasury and administration. His experience also included various other financial leadership roles with other technology companies. Mr. Jensen's career started with his 10 years in the audit group of Coopers & Lybrand. He holds a bachelor’s degree in business and accounting from the California State University at Sacramento.

As vice president of Worldwide Human Resources, Ms. White-Ivy is responsible for providing and implementing high quality, state-of-the-art human resource services and programs for Sybase employees, management and executives worldwide. Ms. White-Ivy oversees the worldwide management of hiring, training and professional development, and employment terminations for Sybase. She implements the best practices in regards to competitive programs, policies, procedures and audits with respect to executive/management/employee compensation, short-term and long-term incentive programs and employee benefits and services. Ms. White-Ivy also ensures that employee relations are compliant with employment statutes and labor laws of the 60 countries where Sybase is located. She joined Sybase in 1997. Ms. White-Ivy has more than 25 years of hands-on expertise in all facets of human resources in the high tech industry. Before joining Sybase, she managed human resources for Unisys, Spectra Physics, Silicon Graphics and Siemens-Pyramid. Ms. White-Ivy earned a BS in Finance and Accounting. She also has an MBA, and an MA in Counseling Psychology (7 quarter units short) from Santa Clara University. Ms. White-Ivy holds a lifetime college teaching credentials from the State of California.

Robert A. Runge has worked in the enterprise software industry since 1987 when he joined the Oracle Corporation as Director of Education Services Marketing. In 1990 Bob joined Gain Technology as Director of Marketing and moved to Sybase Inc. when it acquired Gain in 1992. He remained at Sybase until 1995 as Director of Marketing for the Intermedia Division, which gave him early exposure to technologies that evolved into the first generation of software for Web computing. He served as Chief Marketing Officer for BroadVision, Inc. from 1995-97 and Pivotal Corporation from 1997-2000 and was instrumental in positioning these companies for successful IPOs. Boba s extensive marketing background includes strategic positioning, product marketing, marketing communications, public relations, business development, and international market development. His market development programs at BroadVision and Pivotal Corporation led to the definition of personalization and CRM as market segments. He is a frequent speaker and panelist at CRM, eCommerce, and Internet industry events in the U.S, Europe, and Asia.

Mr. Sum served as a Partner of PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC), an accounting firm, from 1980 until his retirement in July 2003. Beginning in 1995, Mr. Sum served as the firm’s San Francisco Bay Area Audit Methods Partner and Risk Management Partner. During his career with PwC, which began in 1968, Mr. Sum was responsible for audit, tax and consulting efforts for a variety of national and multi-national companies ranging in size from $5 million to $10 billion in sales. Mr. Sum is a member of the California Institute of Certified Public Accountants.

Ms. Yates is the co-founder of Strategos, an international strategy consulting firm, where she served as Chief Executive Officer from January 1995 through August 1999. Ms. Yates currently serves as a Senior Advisor to large corporations and acts as a bridge between the Silicon Valley and large multi-national corporations. She is also a Henry Crown Fellow with the Aspen Institute.

Mr. Daniels has served as a member of Luna's Board of Directors since June 2007 and sits on the Compensation and Nominating and Governance Committees. He is internationally recognized in the technology community for a number of successes, including acquiring and leading Network Solutions, Inc. (NSI), as a senior executive of Science Applications International Corporations (SAIC) helping to build that company into a large, multi-billion dollar enterprise, and recently leading Mobile365 to a successful acquisition transaction. Mr. Daniels has more than 30 years of experience in high technology industries and a successful track record of building high growth companies. After acquiring NSI in 1995, while an executive of SAIC, Daniels served as NSI’s chairman until 2000. During that time, he refocused the company strategy and in 1997, he led the company through a successful initial public offering. In 1999, he led NSI's follow-on offering, which at the time was the largest Internet equity offering in history. In 2000, NSI merged with VeriSign, at which time he joined the VeriSign Board of Directors. In addition to his leadership of NSI, Mr. Daniels served in senior executive positions of SAIC, an $8.5 billion high technology firm from 1986 to 2004. In 2004, he joined the Board of Directors of Apogen Technologies, which was sold to QinetiQ of the United Kingdom in 2005. In 2005, Mr. Daniels was named Chairman of the Board of Mobile365 and then served as Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Mobile365, which was sold to Sybase in November 2006. Currently, Mr. Daniels serves on the board of directors of GlobalLogic (as chairman) Sybase (NYSE), the Logistics Management Institute (LMI), the Virginia Chamber of Commerce (as chairman), the Northern Virginia Technology Council and the Greater Washington Board of Trade.Click here to see a release on Daniels joining the Luna Board.

Mr. Alberding served as an Executive Vice President of Hewlett-Packard Company, a computer and electronics company, before retiring from that company in 1991. He had served in various management positions with HP beginning in 1958. Mr. Alberding is also a director of PC-TEL, a wireless software company, and has served as a director of Stratex Networks, a communications company, retiring in 2006 when that company was sold.

John Johnston is co-founder of August Capital, and previously served as a general partner with two other venture capital firms, Technology Venture Investors (TVI) and Hambrecht & Quist Venture Partners (H&Q). During his venture career, John has invested in more than 25 companies, serving on more than 20 boards of directors. His high-technology venture investments include eShop (Microsoft), Frame Technology, Intuit, Insignia Solutions, Logic Automation (Synopsys), Saros (FileNet), Sybase, Visio and Xilinx.
