Michael Pragnell was a Director of AstraZeneca plc (1999-2000) and of Zeneca Group plc (1997-1999). He joined Zeneca Agrochemicals as Chief Executive Officer in 1995. Prior to 1995 he worked for Courtaulds plc in a number of senior positions (1975-1995) and was appointed to the Board in 1990; he was Chief Financial Officer (1992-1994) and Chief Executive Officer of Courtaulds Coating (1986-1992). He has a degree in modern languages from Oxford University and an MBA from INSEAD.

John Atkin was Chief Executive Officer (1999-2000), Chief Operating Officer (1999), Head of Product Portfolio Management (1998) and Head of Insecticides and Patron for Asia (1997-1998) of Novartis Crop Protection. Prior to 1998 he was General Manager of Sandoz Agro France (1995-1997) and Head of Sandoz Agro Northern Europe (1993-1995). He graduated from the University of Newcastle-upon-Tyne with a PhD and a BSc degree in agricultural zoology.

CEO Michael P. Mack co-founded Garden Fresh Restaurant Corp. in 1983. Prior to Garden Fresh, Mack worked for Bain & Company, a management-consulting firm, where he specialized in the development and implementation of business strategies. He received a B.A. from Brown University and a M.B.A. from Harvard University.

Bruce Bissell, Head of Global Operations and Human Resources, and David Jones, Head of Business Development, retire from Syngenta on February 28, 2007. With effect from January 1, 2007, Robert Berendes was appointed to the Executive Committee as Head of Business Development. From the same date, Mark Peacock was appointed to the Executive Committee as Head of Global Operations with responsibility for global supply and information services.

Christoph Mader was Head of Legal & Public Affairs of Novartis Crop Protection (1999-2000) and Senior Corporate Counsel of Novartis International AG (1992-1998). Christoph Mader is a member of the Supervisory Committees of the Swiss Society of Chemical Industries and of the Swiss Employer Association. He graduated from Basel University Law School, and is admitted to the Bar in Switzerland.

David joined Montague Capital in December 2002 to focus on investment management and research. He has over twenty-two years of investment experience, qualified as an Associate of the Institute of Investment Management and Research in 1983 and is a Fellow of the Securities Institute. Prior to Montague Capital, David was an Investment Director at AXA Investment Managers and an investment analyst and institutional salesman at Barclays de Zoete Wedd. David graduated from Oxford University in 1980.

David Lawrence was Head of R&T Projects for Syngenta (2000-2002). Prior to this he had been Head of International R&D Projects in Zeneca Agrochemicals, having previously held several senior scientific roles. He graduated in chemistry from Oxford University with an MA and DPhil in chemical pharmacology.

Mark Peacock was previously Head of Global Supply (2003-2006) and Regional Supply Manager for Asia Pacific (2000-2003) for Syngenta. Prior to this he was a Product Manager in Zeneca Agrochemicals and General Manager of the Electrophotography Business in Zeneca Specialties. He has a degree in chemical engineering from Imperial College, London, and a Masters in international management from McGill University in Montreal.

Director and member of the Audit Committee. Peter Thompson is currently a Director of Sodexho Alliance SA. He serves as Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Stanwich School in Greenwich, Connecticut. Previously he was President and Chief Executive Officer of PepsiCo Beverages International (1996-2004), President of PepsiCo Foods International's Europe, Middle East and Africa Division (1995-1996) and of Walkers Snack Foods in the UK (1994-1995). Before joining PepsiCo he held various senior management roles with Grand Metropolitan plc, including President and Chief Executive Officer of GrandMet Foods Europe (1992-1994), Vice-Chairman of The Pillsbury Company (1990-1992) and President and Chief Executive Officer of The Paddington Corporation (1984-1990). Peter Thompson has a degree in modern languages from Oxford University and an MBA from Columbia University.

Function at Novartis AG Pierre Landolt has been a member of the Board of Directors since 1996. He qualifies as an independent Non-Executive Director. He is a member of the Corporate Governance and Nomination Committee. Other activities Pierre Landolt is currently Chairman of the Sandoz Family Foundation and a Director of Syngenta AG. He is a partner with unlimited liabilities of the private bank Landolt & Cie. Pierre Landolt serves, in Brazil, as President of the Instituto Fazenda Tamanduá, the Instituto Estrela de Fomento ao Microcrédito, AxialPar Ltda and Moco Agropecuaria Ltda. In Switzerland, Pierre Landolt is the Chairman of Emasan AG and Vaucher Manufacture Fleurier SA and the Vice-Chairman of Parmigiani Fleurier SA. He is a Director of EcoCarbone SA and Amazentis SA and was formerly Chairman of the CITCO Group (1995-2005). He is also Vice-Chairman of the Montreux Jazz Festival Foundation. Professional background Pierre Landolt graduated with bachelor’s degree in law from the University of Paris-Assas. From 1974 to 1976, he worked for Sandoz Brazil SA. In 1977, he acquired an agricultural estate in the semi-arid northeast region of Brazil and, over several years, converted it into a model farm in organic and biodynamic production. Since 1997 Pierre Landolt has been Associate and Chairman of AxialPar Ltda, Brazil, an investment company focused on sustainable development, with investments in fish farming, soybean for human consumption and organic vegetable. In 2000, he co-founded EcoCarbone SA, France, a company active in the design and development of carbon-sequestration processes in Asia, Africa, South America and Europe. In 2007, he co-founded Amazentis SA, a start-up company active in the convergence space of medication and nutrition. In addition to his private activities, Pierre Landolt has been President of the Sandoz Family Foundation since 1994 and oversees the development of the foundation in several investment fields, inter alia hotel, watch making and telecommunications.
