Teletrac was founded in 1988 with the vision of pioneering wireless tracking technology that could help locate missing children an idea that was conceived by the founders after having seen a TV movie about missing children called "Adam." Teletrac's first prototype was roughly the size of a microwave and worked on the then government owned Local Multipoint Distribution Service wireless spectrum. Long before Global Positioning Systems were made available Teletrac had been building out its own wireless location networks in major metropolitan areas including Los Angeles, San Diego, Dallas, Houston and Chicago. Since then, the company's groundbreaking technology has rapidly developed taking advantage of wireless communications and GPS developments. Teletrac is now part of the world leading telematics provider Trafficmaster Plc.
