Charles Barnett joins the Alpine Group as a Vice President after serving as a Legislative Assistant to Senator Blanche Lincoln (D-AR). He was a member of Sen. Lincoln's staff since working on her first Senate campaign in Arkansas. During his tenure with Senator Lincoln, Mr. Barnett was a senior advisor on energy policy, environmental issues and transportation-related matters. In this capacity, he concentrated on energy supply, the comprehensive energy bill, conservation and energy related tax incentives. He also focused on environmental law and regulation as well as resource issues. Prior to serving Senator Lincoln, Mr. Barnett was a Chemical Engineer with Genesis Environmental Consulting in Little Rock, Arkansas. While there, he was responsible for the development of specific projects involving air pollution control and modeling, water and wastewater design and permitting, solid waste facility oversight and construction, and hazardous waste management and disposal. Mr. Barnett was previously employed by the Hazardous Waste Department of the Arkansas Department of Environmental Quality where he was involved with many aspects of the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) permitting for facilities in Arkansas. He also conducted Superfund site inspections for the State of Arkansas and assisted in the preparation of cleanup procedures for these sites. Ken Byers founded Atlanta based Byers Engineering Company in 1971 to offer technical services and software services to utilities. President and sole shareowner of the 1100 employee firm, Ken is also a director of The Alpine Group, Inc., a public manufacturing company, and is Chairman of eQuorum Corporation, a private software company. Ken endowed the Byers Eminent Scholar Chair in Optical Networking and three Byers Professorships at Georgia Tech and serves as a trustee of the Georgia Tech Foundation.
