The Institute staff is striving to find the Cause(s) of Parkinson's disease, develop a Cure for it, while providing world-class Care for patients. Help for existing patients with Parkinson's disease, Hope for current and future sufferers. Since its founding in 1988, the Institute has been pursuing the elements of its mission, growing from a handful of employees in a trailer parked behind a hospital, to a staff of almost 100 focusing on three main areas: Basic research, Clinical research, and patient care. The Parkinson's Institute is the only organization that combines the resources of a full basic research laboratory with access to a wet lab, Stereology facility, and tissue bank; a cadre of 30 clinical researchers and epidemiologists; and a patient care clinic with a database of thousands of Parkinson's disease patients, conducting some 4,000 patient visits each year. The synergies generated by this co-location of three major investigative areas create a powerful tool for Parkinson's disease research.
