Ed Cazier credits Amigos de las Americas with rescuing him from a dissolute life spent surfing off southern California, and redirecting him to a meaningful career spent living and working around the world. Ed learned about AMIGOS from a high school Spanish teacher in Los Angeles, and worked two summers as a Volunteer in Honduras (1976) and Ecuador (1977). During 1978, he was a route leader in the inaugural water well drilling project on the Caribbean coast of Honduras, and returned the following summer as Assistant Project Director. In 1981, Ed was the Project Director of the first AMIGOS project in Panama. He was elected to the Board of Directors in 2003. Cazier graduated from Colgate University in Hamilton, New York in 1981, with degrees in Geology and French Literature. This was followed by a master's degree in Geology from the University of Texas at Austin in 1984, and a mid-life MBA from Rice University in 2002. Since 1984, Ed has worked for BP in a series of technical and managerial roles in Alaska, Texas, Colombia and Venezuela. At present, Cazier is a Geology Manager for TNK-BP in Moscow, Russia, where he directs oil and gas field development projects in Western Siberia. While in AMIGOS, Ed met, and, in spite of strict adherence to the AMIGOS code of conduct, later married, Suky Umana Cazier, of La Ceiba, Honduras. They recently celebrated their 20th anniversary. They have two high-school age children: Maria Isabella and Brendan, both of whom wish to follow as nomadic a life as their parents.
