Out of the Dow and Into ... the Dollar Store?
Hickey and Walters Bespoke submit: Dow Jones Indexes said yesterday that they are monitoring the Citigroup situation regarding its inclusion in the Dow Thirty 'closely.' Our question is what is there to watch? While most investors are focused on what 'clubs' (Dow Thirty,...
What's a Dollar Worth? More Than Citi
Ockham Research submits: A share of Citigroup C has crossed an almost unimaginable threshold, going below a dollar. This is the first time in Citi’s formerly proud history that the company has stooped to the status of a “penny stock”. Matt Nesto broke the news at 11:27...
Visa Keeps Charging Forward
Justin Kuepper submits: Visa Inc. V is charging forward despite a global economic recession as consumers continue the migration from cash to plastic. Nationalization, By Any Other Name
Katy Delay submits: The word "nationalization" has put fear and trembling into the American marketplace, and understandably so. It rings of socialism, of the European model, of the Third-Way progressive compromise. It's the death knell of the American form of free-market capitalism that is the foundational pillar beneath our...
Five Reasons Citi's Worth the Long Risk
Barry Deen submits: Citigroup C has to be one the hardest hit stocks I’ve seen since Nortel in early 2000. Only they don’t exactly have accounting fraud on their shoulders, just a really ugly looking portfolio. But is it really that ugly? Here are my five reasons you should...
Treasury's Bank Plan: Oh, How It's Flawed
Peter Morici submits: Timothy Geithner continues to destroy bank equity with a misguided TARP and vaguely-defined Financial Stability Plan. He seeming doesn’t grasp that he can’t stop a tub with a two inch drain from losing its water with a one inch stopper. Roughly, the United States...
What's Good for Citi - And What's Good for America
Steve Waldman submits: I've just listened to NPR's recent interview of Timothy Geithner. Adam Davidson did a great job of trying to get answers from Mr. Geithner. I felt sorry, at a personal level, for our Treasury Secretary, a very smart man imprisoned in a series of talking points,...
CitiTARP: Worst Convert Ever
The arithmetic on Treasury’s conversion of the TARP Preferred Stock investment into Citi’s C common is troubling. Last Friday Treasury agreed to convert $25 Billion of the TARP Pref for 36% of the common of Citi. The problem is that as of the close of business on Friday 36%...

Ed Cazier credits Amigos de las Americas with rescuing him from a dissolute life spent surfing off southern California, and redirecting him to a meaningful career spent living and working around the world. Ed learned about AMIGOS from a high school Spanish teacher in Los Angeles, and worked two summers as a Volunteer in Honduras (1976) and Ecuador (1977). During 1978, he was a route leader in the inaugural water well drilling project on the Caribbean coast of Honduras, and returned the following summer as Assistant Project Director. In 1981, Ed was the Project Director of the first AMIGOS project in Panama. He was elected to the Board of Directors in 2003. Cazier graduated from Colgate University in Hamilton, New York in 1981, with degrees in Geology and French Literature. This was followed by a master's degree in Geology from the University of Texas at Austin in 1984, and a mid-life MBA from Rice University in 2002. Since 1984, Ed has worked for BP in a series of technical and managerial roles in Alaska, Texas, Colombia and Venezuela. At present, Cazier is a Geology Manager for TNK-BP in Moscow, Russia, where he directs oil and gas field development projects in Western Siberia. While in AMIGOS, Ed met, and, in spite of strict adherence to the AMIGOS code of conduct, later married, Suky Umana Cazier, of La Ceiba, Honduras. They recently celebrated their 20th anniversary. They have two high-school age children: Maria Isabella and Brendan, both of whom wish to follow as nomadic a life as their parents.
