Founded in 1897 and headquartered in Tokyo, Japan, Tomen Corporation (Tokyo: 8015), a general trading company, operates five business segments. The chemicals segment handles petrochemicals, solvents, detergents, urethane raw materials, inorganic products and plastics. Grains, livestock feeds, oils and fats and livestock and processed livestock products are provided by the food segment. Textiles offers natural fibers, synthetic textiles, apparel and industrial materials. The electronics segment offers semiconductors, electronic components, telecommunication solutions and operates call centers. Environmental-related equipment is offered by the machinery and energy segment, which also provides power generation, industrial machinery, crude oil, petroleum products, coal and liquefied gas. The company had 2005 revenue of $14.7 billion and employs about 5,800 people. On April 1, 2006 Tomen and Toyota Tsusho merged, and started as newborn Toyota Tsusho Corporation.
