In 1925, the company started as the Universal Match Company in St. Louis, Missouri making safety matches. As the company grew, matches led into munitions which led into weapons handling systems. This growth and concentration on equipment and systems resulted in the company changing its name to Unidynamics. Diversification expanded the product line into commercial applications such as elevators and cranes. In 1990, all operations and administration were relocated from St. Louis to our present Conroe, Texas facility. With the end of the Cold War, the military sector of the business declined dramatically. With this change in the competitive landscape, there was no longer a good match between the company and it parent. Subsequently, in the fall of 1999, Gulf Coast Holdings, Inc. purchased the assets of Crane Defense Systems to form a new entity doing business as Unidynamics, Inc., with a new executive team led by Sal Mira, President and CEO.
