(NYSE: VAR) deals in advanced equipment and software products for treating cancer, focusing on radiation, X-ray tubes, replacement X-ray tubes and flat panel digital subsystems for imaging in medical, veterinary, scientific and industrial applications. Its Ginzton Technology Center focuses on digital X-ray imaging, brachytherapy - a radiation treatment that protects healthy tissue, as well as emerging biotechnologies. Founded in 1948, the company is based in Palo Alto, CA and employs about 3,600 people. It has revenue of $1.4 billion. In March 2006 St Bartholomews (Barts) in north-east London, England, one of the UK's leading teaching hospitals, integrated the VARiS MedOncology? system with its existing networks to enhance patient safety and the quality of care.
