VeraSun Energy is an ethanol producer in the U.S. Co. is also a pure-play ethanol producer, focusing primarily on the production and sale of ethanol and its co-products. This focus has enabled Co. to significantly grow its ethanol production capacity and to work with automakers, fuel distributors, trade associations and consumers to increase the demand for ethanol. As of Dec 31 2006, Co. owned and operated two ethanol production facilities in the U.S., with a combined ethanol production capacity of 230.0 million gallons per year. In addition to producing ethanol, Co. produces and sells wet and dry distillers grains as ethanol co-products, which serve to partially offset its corn costs.
