Robert Shostak, principal founder and CTO of Vocera Communications founded Vocera Communications in 2000. Dr. Shostak has lead the strategy and architecture of the Vocera Communications System. Under Dr. Shostak's guidance the company began shipping product in October, 2002. Prior to founding Vocera, Dr. Shostak founded Portera Systems, a Web technology company, where he was CTO. He also co-founded and was vice president of software development at ANSA Software, where he authored the Paradox database desktop software. When ANSA merged with Borland International in 1989, as chief scientist, Dr. Shostak spent several years developing new database technology. He is recognized as the father of the branch of distributing computing know as Byzantine Agreement. Dr. Shostak was the recipient of the 2005 Edsger Dijkstra Prize in Distributed Computing. He holds BA, MA, and Ph.D. degrees in computer science and applied mathematics from Harvard University.
